the way everything's structured on Inflation is exquisite, working on that snare while those strings and whoops build&then perfect deployment of that xylophone (2009 has been the best ever year for synth xylophone&this is the peak). feels like a breakthrough, stylistically, or at least an awesome detour, i've never heard funky w/that space and tension before, and also it's banging. worthy of anyone's time.

you should check out this 30 year old ditty which that part immediately reminded me of when i first heard Inflation:

2009 has been the best ever year for synth xylophone

I love this quote. Hoping that 2010 can build on that success!

40 (Big Boi) - Second listen, remains pleasant - I think I'll walk around today and see if it ends up popping into my head all the time (which "Raindrops," "Hysteric," and "Trap Goin Ham" have all pulled off so far). I might DL this and keep it in rotation.

39 (Fever Ray) - Oh no, the wookies have been overthrown by a tribe of elvish Vikings mourning their lost loves from the mountaintops! And conducting freaky seances in suburban backyards, apparently. Actually this is much better than the goofy chanting one. Wouldn't mind a full record of this going on in the background, but since the chanting is apparently the killer, high-energy first track on the album I might be SOL.

38 (Florence, Machine, and Jamie xx Re-Work?) - I bet this sounds great on less shitty speakers. Right now feels a bit empty on the bass end. But a nice enough thing, I like the parts when the remix people are fucking with it more, the main singing stuff is a little too off-the-shelf soulful for me. I bet Fergie could do a good cover of this.

37 (Lindstroem & Prins Thomas) - By this time I'm super suspicious of anything where an O has a slashy line through it - shit never works out - but this is groovy! My copy has a glitch though, somebody took out the lead vocal that's clearly supposed to be here. I keep waiting for "Fresh" Prins Thomas to start dropping some Norwegian science but no. Don't get me wrong, this is fucking great music but if there's nothing to sing along to I can't figure what use to put this to. Ahh fuck, this is pretty good. The other tracks on Myspace aren't quite as killer but, whatever. Do y'all think I'll be able to find this at the record store?

36 (Gucci Mane) - Not quite getting this one. Pretty sluggish. Don't know why Blink-182 gets crucified for imagined red cups between takes and these guys can actually have them in the video and nothing bad happens. I mean I guess it's a pisstake of a frat party or something but there's not a lot going on here.

I would consider drastically readjusting your preconceived notions here.

struck through in my prime (HI DERE), Friday, 29 January 2010 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

pretty cool to see that show up, since I like it way more than the one that tends to get more EOY list love, "9X Outta 10." can't remember if I voted for it or some other BlaQKout cut, though. xpost

some dude, Friday, 29 January 2010 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

that's cool. i went for "9 x outta 10," but i'd be happy for them both to make it. i didn't love that album overall the way some people did, but the highlights are pretty high.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Friday, 29 January 2010 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

HEY PLAYA :D

i have more affection for "hey playa", more admiration for "9xs", and a lot of the time default to "watcha wan do" or "ohh!" instead.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 29 January 2010 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

i let all the quik and kurupt singles pass in favor of pushing that for best album, but i do love me some hey playa

forksclovetofu, Friday, 29 January 2010 16:45 (sixteen years ago)

nice tune & all (& I voted for a different DJQ/K track) but the trad satin "Compton" cap & jheri curl look suited DJ Quik a lot better than the beach-bum thing he's got going on in that video.

ron paul revulvalution (Pillbox), Friday, 29 January 2010 16:46 (sixteen years ago)

awesome song of course, i bet "9x outta 10" is really high as well

love that track, so epic

forksclovetofu, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:01 (sixteen years ago)

also how in god's name did it take so long for someone to use "house of house" as a band name

forksclovetofu, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:03 (sixteen years ago)

Very happy to see House of House (my #2) make it. Are there any dance tracks anyone expects to see in the rest of the list, tho? Hyph Mngo maybe?

maciej recognizing trill, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:04 (sixteen years ago)

almost certainly. and i'd be surprised if a joker track didn't get on as well.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:08 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, the bobbins massive seems to be pwning this poll.

o take a bow you fine ladies and gentlemen

zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

still kicking as a potential #1 on the singles jukebox countdown as well, when and if that finishes

forksclovetofu, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:14 (sixteen years ago)

the trad satin "Compton" cap & jheri curl look suited DJ Quik a lot better than the beach-bum thing he's got going on in that video

right, on a fuckin' camel. stop living in the past, man.

this list is not very spotify-friendly.

Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Friday, 29 January 2010 18:20 (sixteen years ago)

having said that i am loving the 90s retro video and groove of house of house xp

zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:20 (sixteen years ago)

I actually really like this one!

musically, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:21 (sixteen years ago)

@ Scottygthreethousand: hell yes! the vinyl sounds amazing. you can play it normal, but once you max (!) the bass on your mixer it will simply carry you through the room. no need to walk anymore..

^haha house of house comment

zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

damn, had not heard that azari and it's banging

forksclovetofu, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:33 (sixteen years ago)

:) :) :)

Not brilliant, but nice enough (lou), Friday, 29 January 2010 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

goddamn this is awesome; are they a movement? how's everything else by them?

forksclovetofu, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:36 (sixteen years ago)

"Hungry For the Power" is equally as great, I think. Thought that would split the vote for sure.

maciej recognizing trill, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:38 (sixteen years ago)

Their other big single is Hungry for the Power, which is good and has a pretty amazing video, but I prefer RWYL.

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Friday, 29 January 2010 18:41 (sixteen years ago)

awesome - this list so far has a ton of tracks i felt physical pain at having to leave off my ballot, great to see them show up. can't believe we're nearly halfway through and i actively love all but a handful

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 29 January 2010 18:41 (sixteen years ago)

Ha! yeah that X 3

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Friday, 29 January 2010 18:42 (sixteen years ago)

and agree that "reckless" is the marginally better song but the "hungry" video is u&k

from now on "are they a movement?" will be the first question I ask about any artist I am being introduced to

some dude, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

woooooooow, these are both GREAT

(btw Cedric, the vocalist on Reckless With Your Love is hopefully due to collab with Friendly Fires on their 2010 album, which is more techno inspired.)

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Friday, 29 January 2010 18:50 (sixteen years ago)

I'm loving this run but it's making me worry that we'll get through all the tracks I like now and then the top 20'll be, like, all GAPDY.

lords of hyrule (c sharp major), Friday, 29 January 2010 18:54 (sixteen years ago)

haha yeah i was gonna say, it's taking a long time for this list to get boring

zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:58 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, that's what I was thinking earlier when I asked if folks anticipated more dance. Here's to hoping.

maciej recognizing trill, Friday, 29 January 2010 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

yeah the list has been especially dope today

"reckless with your love" is sick -- can't remember if i voted for it or not but i it pwns "hungry for the power"

it just has that... feel

yay for Azari & III! I voted for the other single though, which I hope still places

xp: and now I have something new to check out

tza nicholas ii (The Reverend), Friday, 29 January 2010 19:43 (sixteen years ago)

legitimately never even heard of this song

i guess it's dubstep?

Goon's Anatomy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 29 January 2010 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

Another track I didn't vote for but really like.
