Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 January 2010 01:09 (sixteen years ago)

too much Sweden imo

┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐ (Steve Shasta), Friday, 29 January 2010 01:14 (sixteen years ago)

Too much Fever Ray, at least.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 January 2010 01:15 (sixteen years ago)

is that lindstrom & prins song from III?

Goon's Anatomy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 29 January 2010 01:17 (sixteen years ago)

too much Sweden imo

yeah what a shame it's not 100% American

mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 29 January 2010 01:19 (sixteen years ago)

easy to see why trap goin ham vid could be depressing, surely? but in the track there's also exhilaration in the craziness which counters that.

The exhilaration is part of what makes it so depressing, the exhilaration-in-degradation. It just makes it worse to me. (Anyway, it's hopeless arguing the point here.)

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 29 January 2010 01:28 (sixteen years ago)

yeah what a shame it's not 100% American

― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, January 28, 2010 5:19 PM (7 minutes ago)

you must have me confused with chuck eddy wtf

┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐ (Steve Shasta), Friday, 29 January 2010 01:29 (sixteen years ago)

is that lindstrom & prins song from III?

Did you mean II? Either way, it's a stand-alone single that was released at the same time.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 January 2010 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

xps: I don't get "exhilerating" out of "urgent" and "nervous". It sounds like everything's going to hell in a handbasket.

tza nicholas ii (The Reverend), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:08 (sixteen years ago)

trap goin hambasket

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:25 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha once again the ilx trax poll makes me certain that i am from space and just a visitor on your 2009 planet

srsly? im a fucking unicorn you douchebags (jjjusten), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:30 (sixteen years ago)

max ipad (k3vin k.), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:33 (sixteen years ago)

ha thats the only stuff on here i actually know!

srsly? im a fucking unicorn you douchebags (jjjusten), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:33 (sixteen years ago)

What genres of music do you like, JJ?

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:34 (sixteen years ago)

(and sorry dudes about the only stuff on here i really much like, i am obv not wired to accurately process crazy cousinz or that fuzzy logic thing)

xpost: well until today i thought i liked most of them? also i see what you are doing there you scamp

srsly? im a fucking unicorn you douchebags (jjjusten), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:36 (sixteen years ago)

no i see what you mean _Rudipherous_, and reverend too. it's like the sort of first-person narrative that had the first wave of gangsta rappers trying to reject that label for "reality rap" with tracks a sort of embedded reportage. like chuck d saw the lineage from PE to NWA. but there is exhilaration in it, he's not going to lie down and die, he's going to get money, so throws himself into it headlong. it's complicated.

zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 02:39 (sixteen years ago)

there was a thread where people were talking about his real name, suddenly realised i had no idea and had to wikipedia it. that thread also taught me that this one old pj harvey song is actually a dylan cover :(

OK, I hate Dylan as much as the next guy (and thought that his placement on this poll was a joke, since I've heard nothing but derision for that Xmas album, even among Dylan stans), but this is ridic. The name of the song is "Highway 61 Revisited"!!!

Hoisin Murphy (jaymc), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:42 (sixteen years ago)

pretty sure lex got all these reactions in the first thread.

zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

is that a sort of cajun thing that's the basis of the dylan track? sounds like shane mcgowan to me.

zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 02:46 (sixteen years ago)

lol jaymc + all these reactions are otm tho

johnny crunch, Friday, 29 January 2010 02:46 (sixteen years ago)

Sounds more like tom-waits-cum-klezmer music to me. xp

Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 January 2010 02:49 (sixteen years ago)

(but yeah, it's equally zydeco-ish)

Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 January 2010 02:50 (sixteen years ago)

just to be clear i had heard of this bob dylan fellow

srsly? im a fucking unicorn you douchebags (jjjusten), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:50 (sixteen years ago)

xps: ehhh, it seems only natural that the lower reaches will be filled with relative minority concerns. wait for the top places for the big consensus picks.

tza nicholas ii (The Reverend), Friday, 29 January 2010 02:55 (sixteen years ago)

jj apparently has not been reading the funky house thread

tza nicholas ii (The Reverend), Friday, 29 January 2010 03:01 (sixteen years ago)

whoops

srsly? im a fucking unicorn you douchebags (jjjusten), Friday, 29 January 2010 03:04 (sixteen years ago)

we will make you a uk funky fan yet ;)

hahaha once again the ilx trax poll makes me certain that i am from space and just a visitor on your 2009 planet

― srsly? im a fucking unicorn you douchebags (jjjusten)

had you heard more than one of these songs? then you have me beat.

musically, Friday, 29 January 2010 03:29 (sixteen years ago)

Thanks musically. I love nearly all of these songs. You chose good.

Captain Ahab, Friday, 29 January 2010 06:27 (sixteen years ago)

"IN THE MORNING" and the martyn remix of "seven" getting recognition!!!! ilx ilu, this is making me v satisfied - i'm not even sure whether i voted for half the stuff i love that's come up so far but it's so good to see it place. this list is ridiculously strong and honestly puts all the other polls to shame.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 29 January 2010 08:34 (sixteen years ago)

lol @ three fever ray tracks placing though - love the album but on its poll thread everyone seemed to be like "man, too difficult to isolate one, it works best as an ALBUM" so this is kind of unexpected

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 29 January 2010 08:36 (sixteen years ago)

fever ray more like zzzzz ray amirite

tza nicholas ii (The Reverend), Friday, 29 January 2010 09:10 (sixteen years ago)

I'm guilty of voting for a Fever Ray single (I think, iirc), but seeing three of them in the bottom 20 is kind of ridiculous.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 January 2010 09:12 (sixteen years ago)

The one vid I played so far is that Dylan one.

Is his hair alright?

And why was that guy smashing the place up?

Mark G, Friday, 29 January 2010 09:25 (sixteen years ago)

You should check out some of the other songs Mark. You might like the Memory Tapes one?

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Friday, 29 January 2010 09:30 (sixteen years ago)

I know, I should...

Mark G, Friday, 29 January 2010 09:33 (sixteen years ago)

the way everything's structured on Inflation is exquisite, working on that snare while those strings and whoops build&then perfect deployment of that xylophone (2009 has been the best ever year for synth xylophone&this is the peak). feels like a breakthrough, stylistically, or at least an awesome detour, i've never heard funky w/that space and tension before, and also it's banging. worthy of anyone's time.

ogmor, Friday, 29 January 2010 10:26 (sixteen years ago)

^OTM Inflation blew me away...UK Funky might just have a new fan.

David Katz (davek_00), Friday, 29 January 2010 11:08 (sixteen years ago)

Tim F, Friday, 29 January 2010 12:50 (sixteen years ago)

― k3vin k., Wednesday, January 27, 2010 2:20 PM

you meant Fever Ray, right

struck through in my prime (HI DERE), Friday, 29 January 2010 14:32 (sixteen years ago)

well both probably, plus phoenix and YYYs with at least two as well

2009 has been the best ever year for synth xylophone

I love this quote. Hoping that 2010 can build on that success!

Ismael Klata, Friday, 29 January 2010 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

40 (Big Boi) - Second listen, remains pleasant - I think I'll walk around today and see if it ends up popping into my head all the time (which "Raindrops," "Hysteric," and "Trap Goin Ham" have all pulled off so far). I might DL this and keep it in rotation.

39 (Fever Ray) - Oh no, the wookies have been overthrown by a tribe of elvish Vikings mourning their lost loves from the mountaintops! And conducting freaky seances in suburban backyards, apparently. Actually this is much better than the goofy chanting one. Wouldn't mind a full record of this going on in the background, but since the chanting is apparently the killer, high-energy first track on the album I might be SOL.

38 (Florence, Machine, and Jamie xx Re-Work?) - I bet this sounds great on less shitty speakers. Right now feels a bit empty on the bass end. But a nice enough thing, I like the parts when the remix people are fucking with it more, the main singing stuff is a little too off-the-shelf soulful for me. I bet Fergie could do a good cover of this.

37 (Lindstroem & Prins Thomas) - By this time I'm super suspicious of anything where an O has a slashy line through it - shit never works out - but this is groovy! My copy has a glitch though, somebody took out the lead vocal that's clearly supposed to be here. I keep waiting for "Fresh" Prins Thomas to start dropping some Norwegian science but no. Don't get me wrong, this is fucking great music but if there's nothing to sing along to I can't figure what use to put this to. Ahh fuck, this is pretty good. The other tracks on Myspace aren't quite as killer but, whatever. Do y'all think I'll be able to find this at the record store?

36 (Gucci Mane) - Not quite getting this one. Pretty sluggish. Don't know why Blink-182 gets crucified for imagined red cups between takes and these guys can actually have them in the video and nothing bad happens. I mean I guess it's a pisstake of a frat party or something but there's not a lot going on here.

I would consider drastically readjusting your preconceived notions here.

struck through in my prime (HI DERE), Friday, 29 January 2010 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

pretty cool to see that show up, since I like it way more than the one that tends to get more EOY list love, "9X Outta 10." can't remember if I voted for it or some other BlaQKout cut, though. xpost

some dude, Friday, 29 January 2010 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

that's cool. i went for "9 x outta 10," but i'd be happy for them both to make it. i didn't love that album overall the way some people did, but the highlights are pretty high.
