I agree it's a really good list up to this point. re: Washed Out -- he seems to be the lead dog in this whole subgenre, and it's not by chance. He does more with the same components than people like Neon Indian or Toro y Moi or Ducktails or whoever else. I hope when he finally make a proper album, he still writes the same way but increases the fidelity a little bit.

i know i was listening to lots of old music, but this list makes me feel like i just missed 2k9 tbh

plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 28 January 2010 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

I suspect the whole Washed Out album is good, if I was more familiar with it I think it would have made my album ballot.

It was actually two separate EP's, wasn't it? iirc the EP this was on, "Life Of Leisure" was the better of the two.

thread needs the official washed out vid IMO:

Washed Out song is cool. So far the only thing I actively dislike is AC.

max ipad (k3vin k.), Thursday, 28 January 2010 23:53 (sixteen years ago)

i had no idea bob dylan released anything in 2009. i only realised a few weeks ago he was still alive.

the washed out track is one i hadn't heard of before, it's pretty nice. 10cc-meets-air seems about right.

lol @ this

Goon's Anatomy (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 28 January 2010 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

it was a specific thing, there was a thread where people were talking about his real name, suddenly realised i had no idea and had to wikipedia it. that thread also taught me that this one old pj harvey song is actually a dylan cover :(

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 28 January 2010 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

dylan's real 2009 album was sort of meh. but the christmas album is a classic of some kind or other.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 28 January 2010 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

(by pj harvey you mean "highway 61"? yes. that is a bob dylan song.)

'Feel It All Around' is only the 4th or 5th best track on the Life Of Leisure EP btw

I was liking that Washed Out thing 'till the vocals came in...

DavidM, Friday, 29 January 2010 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

i like that glo-fi (or whatever-it-is) stuff ok, but not as much as the idib-type stuff. they have somewhat adjacent aesthetics, but with different emphases. idib is all-night-driving music, things like washed up seem more sort of for afternoon picnics.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Friday, 29 January 2010 00:06 (sixteen years ago)

xpost: idib ?

Goon's Anatomy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 29 January 2010 00:34 (sixteen years ago)

Happy to see the Dylan make it. That whole album just sounds like he and his band are having the best time playing these hoary old chestnuts.

Sad to say my favorite thing posted thus far is the Onyx track by a fair margin.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 29 January 2010 00:35 (sixteen years ago)

But Feel it All Around was pretty much as close to a "single" as Washed Out got this year. xp

yeah what a shame it's not 100% American

mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 29 January 2010 01:19 (sixteen years ago)

easy to see why trap goin ham vid could be depressing, surely? but in the track there's also exhilaration in the craziness which counters that.

The exhilaration is part of what makes it so depressing, the exhilaration-in-degradation. It just makes it worse to me. (Anyway, it's hopeless arguing the point here.)
