i've kinda tuned out the lyrics -- "break up/make up" is a big red flag at lazy couplets ahoy -- but the vocals and the melody, especially on the bridge, are so great. baby James and I have bopped along to that song many a time.

^^how can anyone dislike the song now
― guardian nagle (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:04 (sixteen years ago)
i held off listening to the album for ages b/c "birthday sex" was so perfect, but in that fragile don't-know-if-i-want-any-more way - it's a lot better than i thought it would be, but i think i agree w/jordan about his voice - it doesn't bother me in small doses but so much reediness over 45 mins is a bit much.
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 11:03 (sixteen years ago)
i'm streaming this right now--i think i just really like the sonics of it enough to carry the parts where the songs or his voice aren't quite up to par? so i'm like on the cusp of purchasing it but with my self-imposed 2 records/week limit not totally sure if/when that'll happen.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 25 January 2010 18:29 (sixteen years ago)
i'm so glad i put this on my ballot, just listened again today and it just gets better
― k3vin k., Monday, 25 January 2010 19:16 (sixteen years ago)
I was just listening to 'raindrops' on headphones and when the thunder sound happened I actually took my off my headphones and looked out the window

"imma star" is on constant rotation here on kauai right now and i'm totally hooked. that little vocal glissando on "ice" is genius.
― pshrbrn, Thursday, 28 January 2010 04:20 (sixteen years ago)
"imma star" is so good to nod your head to
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 28 January 2010 08:59 (sixteen years ago)
did i mention that starting all over is the classic deep cut
― plaxico (I know, right?), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 00:35 (sixteen years ago)
OTM, besides the singles which are all incredible the can't-live-without-em cuts are "starting all over," "my sunshine," and "buh bye"
― rasta batman gigolo (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 00:38 (sixteen years ago)
i shall always be inordinately fond of this album, the one thing that felt like it really came right out of nowhere to steal my heart in 2009.
and the kid had good videos too.

― Tim F, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 01:30 (sixteen years ago)
haha that reminds me whenever i search for one of his videos on youtube it always autocorrects to 'jeremiah'
― rasta batman gigolo (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 01:35 (sixteen years ago)
I have a Google Autocorrect in my brain it seems.

inevitable procession of the luda verse makes this track seem more slight and generic than it really is, needed to assert itself a tad longer before and maybe even during. still v v v good though - schulz is a beast, like who else other than these guys would bother chipmunking the chorus so very lightly like at 3mins
― r|t|c, Saturday, 5 June 2010 13:45 (sixteen years ago)
hey what a good song

and yeah the schulz production is great, he really owns this sound
― fman29.5 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 5 June 2010 17:58 (sixteen years ago)
I like, but could do without the Luda verse really (though on first listen that could just be knee-jerk thanks to Bieber)
― billy, Saturday, 5 June 2010 18:04 (sixteen years ago)
yeah luda's unnecessary but doesn't really take away from it for me - def hope the next album is light on guests
― fman29.5 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 5 June 2010 18:10 (sixteen years ago)
first album is a classic to me now
who is schulz?
― what it feels like for a goon (The Reverend), Sunday, 6 June 2010 01:59 (sixteen years ago)
Mick Shultz, guy who produces all of Jeremih's stuff and amazingly hasn't been snapped up to work w/ anybody else major yet afaik
― unfinest states of america (some dude), Sunday, 6 June 2010 02:03 (sixteen years ago)

i listened to it once but almost nothing really sticks with me after one listen, should come back to it tomorrow when the baby's not asleep.
― some dude, Thursday, 10 June 2010 01:22 (fifteen years ago)
this is cool but its success just further bums me out that the dope Keri song "I Like" that was a hit in a bunch of random other countries will never get a proper U.S. release
― some dude, Thursday, 10 June 2010 13:12 (fifteen years ago)
oh is this charting?

that keri 'i like' has really grown on me lately - props 2 ships.
sad that i have to remind myself the jeremih one exists, still captivates whenever i press play though.

did that song even get released as an official single
― righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 12:40 (fifteen years ago)
I was disappointed they didn't give "Break Up to Make Up" a singles push. That one sounded like a hit to me.
It wasn't high art, but that self-titled Jeremih album was really an oddity: A major-label R&B album written and produced entirely by a singer and his producer. That was really refreshing. Judging by the Ludacris feature on the first single from his next album, though, I'm guessing the new one will be more of the typical by-committee R&B album.
― Evan R, Thursday, 5 August 2010 18:03 (fifteen years ago)
this album is really good yeah, was gonna revive this thread last night as found myself digging it out again. even the really bare "songs" are really great.
