'red and blue lights' is on some 'agent orange' w/out the gimmick sample plus a dose of mind playing tricks paranoia. j stalin does good choruses!

yeah musical is right...that's why the few tracks that do try a more hyphy real manic sounds sorta fall flat to me...
― jealous ones sb (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 8 January 2010 18:44 (sixteen years ago)
also i love how much gravitas jacka has when his verse finally enters on that track -- part of what bothered me about jacka doing tracks w/ like freeway is that i feel like it sorta shatters the illusion that these guys dont need the rest of rap cuz they have their own heroes

red & blue lights is really good too....i like the more stately, almost haunting type synth sounds...almost reminds me of like 80s tangerine dream movie soundtracks like "risky business" and shit....
― jealous ones sb (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 8 January 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)
"money on the way" is also a jam -- holy shit that first verse
― not a playa but i ilx a lot (deej), Friday, 8 January 2010 20:03 (sixteen years ago)
haha i'm pretty sure "when the club over" is a weirdly chopped sample of "separate ways" by journey.reppin' for true old school bay area Gz!

― jealous ones sb (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 8 January 2010 20:37 (sixteen years ago)
i remember digging this onehttp://musicremedy.com/webfiles/artists/SanQuinn/SanQuinn-01-big.jpg

i hope hip-hop's new years resolution is to put out one fucking mixtape or CD that shows up in my iTunes as one artist
― steady mmmobyn (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 11 January 2010 00:00 (sixteen years ago)
you can just denote it as a compilation in itunes options
― sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Monday, 11 January 2010 01:49 (sixteen years ago)
thanks but then it still sprays 20 different listings under the "artists" section title in my iphone
seriously no genre has more fucking ponderous tagging than rap leaks
― steady mmmobyn (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 11 January 2010 03:18 (sixteen years ago)
"group compilations when browsing" should fix that
― sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Monday, 11 January 2010 03:37 (sixteen years ago)
ah i guess the iphone does not have that option :/
― sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Monday, 11 January 2010 03:39 (sixteen years ago)
"Money On The Way" is amazing and kinda bizarre, I can't think offhand of anything that quite captures that vibe.
Love the symphonic drama of a lot of the arrangements on this record, esp. this track - puts me in mind of the eighties in a way that's different and a lot stronger maybe than most of what passes for eighties revivalism. Like, I wanna say Moroder soundtracking 'Metropolis', though that may be a long bow to draw.
― Tim F, Monday, 11 January 2010 08:10 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i tried to say the same thing this way, but moroder is a good comparison too
i like the more stately, almost haunting type synth sounds...almost reminds me of like 80s tangerine dream movie soundtracks like "risky business" and shit....
― rap wacksodic (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 11 January 2010 18:45 (sixteen years ago)
also it might be a lil corny but i'm loving the fugees chorus on "when it's real"
but i'm kinda nostaligic for fugees lately.
― rap wacksodic (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 11 January 2010 18:49 (sixteen years ago)
"red & blue lights" is so amazing
i kinda feel like the production on songs like this is what people that bought all that bullshit kanye was selling with his last album thought they were hearing...like some real amazing dark and haunting 80 synth stuff but still real hip hop with emotion
― rap wacksodic (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 11 January 2010 18:56 (sixteen years ago)
