hmm. i get the impression that there's been more tweaking since then, but you'll have to send me the promos so i can make the comparison.

shieldsy spending 18 months 'tweaking'?

never!

Karen Tregaskin, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 11:52 (sixteen years ago)

No, YOU'LL have to send me YOUR copies. I'm not falling for that old trick, Mr So-Called history mayne.

xp

(Anyway - still the two versions, one from DAT, one from analogue multi-track?)

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 11:53 (sixteen years ago)

three versions!

Ha ha. Bless him. I wouldn't want to stand behind this guy in the queue at Starbucks.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 12:06 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, my minidisc version! xpost

(This is true, btw)

Mark G, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 12:06 (sixteen years ago)

(that day was June 22nd, Mike. and S had probably had them a while by then. search tag's photos for International Colouring Contest)

amazon was listing the md version until quite recently (probably less than 18 months ago). actually, their minidisc list is quite long and there are bargains to be had, some of them quite odd choices (Smashing Orange anyone? Godzilla soundtrack? several Clash compilations, some Bjork)

(i have exactly 1 (one) prerecorded minidisc - Minidisc by Gescom)

there's a my bloody valentine forum, and when it opened someone kept posting jokes like, kevin shields' wife is pregnant! the baby will be born in eight years.

i would actually be intrigued by any footnotes for this, whether or not they're a legitimate justification for the wait.

I see a bunch of the ones I have are on that list.

wait, does that imply he's working on a Memory Stick version as well? will that be a different mix again?

koogs, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 20:20 (sixteen years ago)

iirc the delays are down to Kev writing his own audio codec so that none of the remastered nuances are lost on the Memory Stick release.

Bill A, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

This title will be released on March 8, 2010.
Pre-order now!

It actually now feels like he doesn't want any fans to be happy ever again.

Bilinda isn't a member of Facebook or any social networking site
Bilinda Butcher would like to point out that she doesn't have a Facebook page. The person who is pretending to be Bilinda Jayne Butcher isn't her, nor are any of the other Bilinda Butchers online. Bilinda isn't a member of any social networking sites. If they could all stop pretending to be her she would appreciate it.

Charming!

Mark G, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:20 (sixteen years ago)

The one that was floating around last year is hilarious. The two "versions" are indistinguishable.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

I wonder if there is a psychiatric term for this kind of neverending procrastination? Because it seems like the actual remastering process was done and dusted many, many months (if not years) ago, so the *only* thing now holding this up is the sleevenotes? It's like Kev keeps missing the deadline for his essay and is giving his indulgent tutor more and more excuses (except no excuses are actually being given, other than the eternal "getting it right" nonsense).

And all this for fucking REMASTERS! God forbid they should actually attempt to release some new material in the next decade. Maybe they are all rich enough (which I doubt), but surely Colm, Deb and Bilinda would not mind seeing a little £££ from these things actually going on sale?

I've gone all the way from excitement, to amusement, to dismissal, back to amusement and now pissed offness over this. What a shambles.

Bill A, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

I think I need a lie down, actually.

Bill A, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

(and to stop using the word actually all the time)

Bill A, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

It's still nothing compared to the gap between the Kraftwerk remasters box set promos and the eventual release.

Mark G, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

I wonder how much Deb makes from sales of Loveless.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

Hope she still gets something fair.

i listen to both versions pretty much equally atm, v different experiences

the archetypal ghetto hustler (history mayne), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 20:39 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I imagine the remasters you received are somewhat quieter?

Bill A, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 20:41 (sixteen years ago)

loud enough for me to hear 'em

the archetypal ghetto hustler (history mayne), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

If you play the original vinyl, the original CD and both remastered CDs simultaneously, Zaireeka fashion, sample the resultant signal, and then run the .wav through a decrypter you get an ascii file which depicts Kev pulling a goatse 4 tha fanz.

This thing'll never come out.

AnotherDeadHero, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 12:15 (sixteen years ago)

What's yr source, Mark? Amazon UK is holding steady for 23 August: the day when we can forget all this unpleasantness and carry on with our lives.

Bill A, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 12:53 (sixteen years ago)

Each date has come from HMV uk, historically.

Mark G, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

Still, I'm slightly encouraged by reports of 'Loveless' recently going out of print in the UK.

AnotherDeadHero, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I downloaded a FLAC from a torrent site claiming to be the remastered 'Loveless' and either the remastering is particularly subtle or its a load of bollocks.

AnotherDeadHero, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

I'll believe it when I see it.

skip, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 17:00 (sixteen years ago)

I assume it'll come with the EPs that preceded it?

Fastnbulbous, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 18:54 (sixteen years ago)

I've recently re-discovered how fucking marvelous that Tremolo EP was

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 19:47 (sixteen years ago)

Ha, I just played it in the car on the way home.

Mark G, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

> I assume it'll come with the EPs that preceded it?

no, is just the lp, twice.

demo cds were sent out to journos in summer 08. so the music's all done, it's everything else that's holding it up. that's the annoying thing.

koogs, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 22:00 (sixteen years ago)

Can't tell if you're being serious, is it really the album twice? Different formats?

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 22:04 (sixteen years ago)

Yep, once remastered off the stereo DAT masters, once remastered off the analogue tapes. I think that's right. It's been a while...

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Of course I'm doubtful that, even if it is released in the UK, it'll ever show up here in the States as anything but an expensive import.

what is this "everything else"?

tylerw, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 22:17 (sixteen years ago)

once remastered off the stereo DAT masters, once remastered off the analogue tapes

This reminds me of the adage about the man with one watch knows what time it is while the man with two watches is never sure. Why don't they just do one definitive version?

everything, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 22:22 (sixteen years ago)

> what is this "everything else"?

the usual crap that makes a released cd different from a demo cd - artwork, sleevenotes(?) etc. the ones i saw (and that mike ended up with) were just stamped cds (ie not cdrs and iirc were properly printed on the label side, albeit only with text, no colours or pictures) in a transparent plastic wallet.

koogs, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

so the demo CDs haven't actually leaked? was under the impression that the so-called Loveless remasters floating around last year were fakes ...
