The secret track being in the middle of the third track of Disco Volante always makes me soooo happy.

Everyone needs to scroll back and read (or re-read!) the Mackro/Ned stories about the Celebrity Theater show.

remembering the existence of Mr Bungle is the single biggest spanner in the works of my own ballot
like, there's THREE legitimately brilliant albums to vote for ON TOP OF the eight or nine I'd been carefully prepping

given that disco volante is towards the upper third of my top three albums of all time, I'm guessing I might squeeze it in somewhere...

*give or take Still Life, On Land And In The Sea, Blood Inside and Spirit Of Eden

― How to Make an American Quit (Abbott), Saturday, 13 March 2010 00:13 (fourteen years ago) link
I'd agree with that if I hadn't been caning the first one pretty hard today - although some of their moral decisions are questionable at best on that one
― oh shit sorry another useless post (acoleuthic), Saturday, 13 March 2010 00:16 (fourteen years ago) link
That album opened my ears to a lot of music that I hadn't paid attention to before: Beach Boys and gamelan being pretty notable.

xp to abbott about california
Their first album is the thing that made me think "Blue Velvet" would be a totally fun-loving party film.

hahaha I was given Blue Velvet for my birthday and am waiting for a good opportunity to watch it - may just synch it up with the first Mr Bungle album, see what happens

the first one is the worst of the three and i'm sure every member of mr. bungle would agree with that
― broanna brewsome (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 13 March 2010 00:25 (fourteen years ago) link
Damn dude. For some reason, my wife has a copy of Blue Velvet in her movie collection. It's really out of character for a collection that's mostly cheesy horror and kung fu movies. I've never asked her why and she's never suggested watching it.

yeah I'm kinda realising this - it's not as GOOD but it's hella fun, and about half the tracks are stone-dead stunning
disco volante and california are terrifyingly lucid fever-dreams and i treasure them dearly

it has elements of funk-metal, sure, among many other things.
though it is by far the funk-metalest of the three.
'funk metal' makes me think of mordred.

Reunion shows performing the Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny demo with Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo? Select dates in stupid cities far from where I live.

Caught last night's show -- ridiculously good. Just classic 80s underground metal with Ian and Lombardo giving it all extra heft. Logically, when they started it was by covering, mostly straightforwardly, "Won't You Be My Neighbor," with Mike in a red sweater. Later, they did a complete on-the-level cover of "Summer Breeze."
