yeah I kinda wish I'd been so bold as to put money on the fact that everyone would be talking about the new Amerie (and the new Ying Yang Twins) when I first heard them both 3 months ago, because I'd be collecting big right now.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I also predicted that "Candy Shop" would be a big flop. So I owe someone a lot of money.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I should have assumed that a song that allows people to mouth nasty innuendoes to each other while they're dancing would be a hit.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard the remix with Eve last night. It's OK.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the song, but I think her vocals suck. She sounds like she's straining just a little too hard.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Saturday, 26 March 2005 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe how it seems like there's a Jay-Z-style guest verse right around the corner, but it never actually comes?

over at turntablelab.com, they're listing a remix with jay-z on it. want it.

jermaine (jnoble), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard that on the radio--Jay doesn't add too much, but he still fits very snugly within the time he's given. Good choice.(50's verses on the "Turn Off Da Lights" remix are still better)

Side note that I don't think has been hit on too much in this thread: the vid for "One Thing" is great. Not too flashy, but good integration of the Hitch clips, great set design and Amerie looks fucking PHENOMENAL in her various outfits. Not quite this year's "Dip it Low" but close.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

it might've been mentioned upthread already but the Jay-Z remix is not official and also kind of fake, just an old verse put on the beat (although it fits it like a glove so who cares)

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

does this song sound like "Poison" to anyone else?

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

BBD?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I can see why you'd say that. But the "Poison" drum pattern -- the most unmistakeable part of the song -- isn't as loose and careening as the "1 Thing" drum pattern.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This song is great. I love what he did with the Meters sample here, it's unique and spot-on.

Keith C (kcraw916), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Take Amerie off the track and what you have is so DJ Shadow-by-numbers

Ha, for all intents and purposes, '1 Thing' is in fact a slowed 'Let The Good Times Roll' by RJD2 without the 80s breakdown.

This was the tune that made Marianna, Alex and I dance alone in a roomful of people on Saturday. The chorus vocals hurt, but the rest is badass and I get to do my JB thing.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Who wasn't dancing?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

dear lord this song is good. I could listen to the drum loop forever.

tylero (tylero), Friday, 15 April 2005 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

here is the original meters' break. you can loop it and listen to it forever if you so desire.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 15 April 2005 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

this is insanely good. and will be the summer jam. i swear. so fucking good.

breezy, Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

too early?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope not. cuz it's got summer jam written all over it. has it already peaked? see I'm so out of it I JUST heard it a few days ago. I never watch MTV or listen to the radio, ...I heard it at a party and was instantly hooked

breezy, Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.cocaineblunts.com/blog/blog.html
Coke-blunts did a quick blurb on the album...! I need to find it.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

ha that was quick. slsk's been flooded though, get it quick before its too late.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

jk i dont advocate stealing.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like the remix of 1 thing on the album features Eve.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the album is seriously great.

f-a-b-o-l-o-u-s (adamwest), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

So far I agree totally!

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rolling Down my Face" oh!

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait to hear this! But my slsk appears to have totally fucked itself and is NOT WORKING AARGH.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

hehe I'm so glad I beat everyone else to the punch in reserving rights to review the album for Stylus.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all about the lady's legs! and that wicked drumloop...i love the video, and how at the end she gets down with the drummers on stage, sorta headbanging like she's really into the music. unlike the video for get right, where j.lo can't give up one second of camera time to anyone but her thousand incarnations...

Rachel S (rachels), Thursday, 21 April 2005 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah. Vid is seriously hot.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 21 April 2005 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait to hear this! But my slsk appears to have totally fucked itself and is NOT WORKING AARGH.

If you use BitTorrent, you can d/l it from Torrent Reactor and The Pirate Bay.

the todster (the todster), Thursday, 21 April 2005 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The vid for the single to her last album was hot (and there were a lot more shots of her legs). This vid is ok. Why do we need clips from hitch?

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Because Kevin James is hot.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm really starting to worry about you, Daver.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Al, I'm looking forward to your review! I love this album so far, I'd be daunted to write about it.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I still haven't heard the whole thing (and probably won't til the release date next week), I just figured it was worth calling dibs on.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i am so so so so so so so glad this doesn't suck. it is the opposite of suck. it is awesome. rich harrison is a fucking genius. and wtf omg she is so hot in some of those interior booklet photos.

strng hlkngtn, Monday, 25 April 2005 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

even the lil jon beat is good! (it sounds like dancehall and he only throws the eurorave stabs in at the very very end.) the red spyda beat kinda does suck though.

strng hlkngtn, Monday, 25 April 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i just got this late last night and i've only briefly scanned it, but is there a track near the middle that samples "1 thing"?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 25 April 2005 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone is interested, I wrote about "1 Thing" and embedded a link to the Meters song that's sampled. I'm only going to have it up for another couple hours, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

amazing song

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Monday, 2 May 2005 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone know who the mental jungle remix (bootie?) with the robot voices et al is by?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 2 May 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone know if the "Why Don't We Fall In Love" (Richcraft Remix) that's at the end of the album is actually new? I mean, I remember the remix w/ Luda from back in '02 but I think that was a different beat, so I'm wondering if this remix was actually made recently or is 3 years old too and just tacked onto the album.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 2 May 2005 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

strng hlkngtn otm

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 15 May 2005 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

My lord, she ROCKED Top Of The Pops this week. Made everyone else look fused to the floor. R-O-W-R.

The Irrelevant Man (Negativa) (Barima), Sunday, 15 May 2005 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Anybody heard the krivit re-edits of One Thing that have been floating around - i've been cursed so far on seek.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

That drummer for the Meters is so damn good.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 15 May 2005 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

This is actually out in real British shops this week, btw. Everyone buy it and push Coldplay into THIRD place.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 07:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Why? I've already got it on the album. And it won't change the winner.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 26 May 2005 07:10 (twenty-one years ago)
