Great news!

righteousmaelstrom (righteousmaelstrom), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

Thank god I've still never found a cheap copy of Fade Out.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

not to mention the out-of-nowhere production job for Amp on Stenorette.

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

great news; I slept on getting fade out for years and years and then when I finally went to buy it it was OOP and out of my price range.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

L, OOP?

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

I found my copy randomly used for something like $5, so yay smug me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

I bought it - on vinyl - when it came out.

I have teh dronerock cred! Nyeah!

(But it, with all my vinyl, is still in storage at my mum's house. Bah.)

I will probably get all the reissues anyway. Coz I'm sad like that.

Breaking Under The Crush (kate), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

YAYYY!!!!! I just got A Gilded Eternity from LaLa and luckily paid nothing for it (well, technically like $1.75...) but chyea this is exciting to da max.

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

A Gilded Eternity sounds fine even today, but the earlier stuff could use remastering (then again, I would say that, based on my criticisms upthread).

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

"Collision" could do with a remaster as the vinyl sounds *much* better.

I.M. From Hollywood (i_m_from_hollywood), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

I have Fade Out and A Gilded Eternity on vinyl. Still need to get the vinyl of Heaven's End

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

REISSUES: AWESOME.

especially since i slept on the early releases (though i did get much of them as cutout casettes for $1 each - thank you coconuts).

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
I've just come across this site while looking for (free!)LOOP mp3s and can't believe pepole still have so much time to devote to this band so many years on.

Heaven's End was/is a great album and was my soundtrack to many a hazy evening. That meld from Too Real To Feel to Fix to Fall still gets me!
There really was something about LOOP - I travelled from Dublin to London a couple of times to see them play and their gigs were like an open invitation to space out. great light show too.

My girlfriend at the time was particularly upset about how excited i got at laying my hands on a gorgeous pink sleeved World in Your Eyes album. She didn't undersatnd my enthusiasm and I can only guess that she wished I'd show the same level of enthusiasm and childish excitement toward her. Needless to say, she's now an ex.

Anyway, glad to see that LOOP continues to inspire such enthusiasm from new listeners. If it's worth anything, I too would love to hear a remasterrd Heaven's End, (if you ain't hearing it on vinyl you're probably ain't hearing it at its best) but that's just being picky.

Trust me, you've found the right board for it (and welcome!). I admit I was hoping this was more about the reissues!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

Me too.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

Not really concerned about re-issues - tho prob won't be able to resist if I come across them. Having said that, I'm reassured that there are others who appreciate a good thing when they hear it. Pfunk, ta for link to rhampsons page above

Any news on the reissues?

Look, I really can't stand it. There's got to be a better place to post about Loop than the goddamn "best shoegazing band" thread. I mean wtf?
They were the fucking shit though. Oh yes they were. Do you know what I really think about them is that they predicted American grunge. Yep. I'm serious. They knew exactly where it was all going to go. Come on damnit, Loop. They make me feel like I'm 16 again for sure.

So yeah...predicted American grunge. Anyone wanna take me on? Let's argue about it, if need be. I'm ready.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 4 May 2008 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

Also the goddamn ARC LIGHT 12"

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 4 May 2008 23:22 (eighteen years ago)

Does anyone remember "Arc Light"? Jesus won't one person tell me they remember that riff.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 4 May 2008 23:22 (eighteen years ago)

I remember "Arc Light"...I still have the CD single...there was a "radar" and a "sonar" version, or something like that...truly awesome riff...I do kinda like the flip, "Sunburst", a little more though...

henry s, Monday, 5 May 2008 01:59 (eighteen years ago)

I actually like "Arc-Lite (Radiated)" most of all.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 5 May 2008 02:05 (eighteen years ago)

I always thought this band was seriously underrated in the weeklies. I noticed a kind of hostility towards Loop and they always seemed to lump them in with Spacemen 3 which I didn't really understand (always preferring Sonic, Jason and co.). Sonic also seemed to hate them (some story about them ripping off his idea).

Spencer Chow, Monday, 5 May 2008 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

Spacemen and Loop, both great bands, no need to fight over it, Sonic... :)

stephen, Monday, 5 May 2008 03:10 (eighteen years ago)

There was some actual bad blood re: ripoff accusations! Elvis T. can tell the story.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 May 2008 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

the hostility was mutual, as I recall in interviews back then...I wonder did they ever rumble?

henry s, Monday, 5 May 2008 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

Loop were awesome.
whats the difference between the tracks "the nail will burn" and "the nail will burn (burn out)" from the Gildered Eternity?
is it a joke?

Zeno, Monday, 5 May 2008 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

oh, it's prob a different mix (very slightly), a bonus track that doesnt appear as such in my cd version at least

Zeno, Monday, 5 May 2008 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

from the same area and sound, i waqs impressed by Strobe, like the psychedelic version of Loop. Sea Beyond the Sun was awesome.

Zeno, Monday, 5 May 2008 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

and also Sun Dial.
Return Journey,what a record.

Zeno, Monday, 5 May 2008 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

main > loop

am0n, Monday, 5 May 2008 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

kinda interested in the heaven's end reissue as thats their only good one :3

am0n, Monday, 5 May 2008 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

shuddup

main > loop

true, though.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Monday, 5 May 2008 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

ok fade out is good too

am0n, Monday, 5 May 2008 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

I don't remember a band called Strobe at all.

Bimble, Monday, 5 May 2008 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

about Strobe:

Zeno, Monday, 5 May 2008 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

There was some actual bad blood re: ripoff accusations! Elvis T. can tell the story.

The Spacemen 3 book touches on this in some detail - the story is that Hampson was working in the same studio where SP3 were recording at and helped himself to (for lack of a better description) SP3's public image. Instead of being just another band that listened to Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Husker Du, and all the latter day SST that everyone was namechecking, Loop recast themselves as "cooler" MC5/Krautrock/Suicide heads and got themselves a record deal and the cover of Melody Maker before SP3 did.

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

'mother sky' cover is nice

am0n, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

I actually can't really think of any Loop I don't like!

Spencer Chow, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

I suppose there are Spacemen 3 moments I like more, but they're far less consistent (or monotonous if you're not feeling very generous).

Spencer Chow, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

main > loop

See, I don't get this. Everything I've heard by Main was boring (to me) ambient drone. Loop was droney, but they rocked. I got into Loop when I first started driving, and will for the rest of my life associate Heaven's End with riding around in my car - just blasting the shit out of that tape over and over.

xpost- never really got into Spacemen 3 either.

rockapads, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

It seems like Spacemen 3 were more well-liked, though, and I never could understand that. I found them pretty boring most of the time.

Bimble, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

They're both good, but Spacemen 3 has this ... personality. Loop's always been kind-of faceless to me.

burt_stanton, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

Loop's facelessness was part of the appeal! I love their strange anonymity, even Robert doesn't seem like he's entirely there.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

junkie != personality

am0n, Monday, 5 May 2008 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

i like a gilded eternity now. i want reissues

"Loop News

Dear All,

The Loop reissue program has finally found it's feet and there will new remastered versions of Heaven's End, Fade Out, The World In Your Eyes out on REACTOR in late 2008.
All of these have been commercially unavailable since 1991 on any format."

down in the comments:
"I will do my best and try and contact Clawfist, if they are OK with it, then it'll be on - but please be aware that it will ONLY be the Loop cover of Like Rats, the Godflesh cover will have to surface somewhere else, like on a Godflesh comp."

LOOP announce re-issues of long out of print back catalogue

REACTOR in conjunction with FORTE DISTRIBUTION is very happy to announce an overdue reissue programme of the long out of print albums / material by British band, LOOP.

Remastered from the original analogue sources, the first 2 releases, ‘Heaven’s End’ and ‘Fade Out’ will be released as double discs on 17th November (via Forte) and housed in a mini vinyl style card sleeve, reproducing the original artwork. Both albums will be also be made available digitally for the first time.

The band’s further two albums, The World In Your Eyes, and Gilded Eternity are currently being re-mastered for release next year with The World In Your Eyes being released as a 3 volume CD set, and Gilded Eternity as a double CD.

All due care has been taken to release everything that is available in some chronological order, though sadly a couple of tapes have been too badly damaged or lost to make a complete edition, but these will be the definitive editions...there won't be any 'special editions' to rip you off with, that's a promise.

Both albums will be released with re-mastered extra material from the relevant chronological time frame as the main album: The album in its entirety on CD 1, with the bonus tracks (including relevant Peel session material from the time) on CD 2, the bonus material will be available on CD formats only.

The LP versions of the albums will be released on a limited run as 180gr pressings in 2009.
