The album is complete already if my source is correct.

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

xxp and still he's in so damn much. perhaps we should have a rolling Corsano thread for 2010

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:51 (sixteen years ago)

That review makes it sound pretty killer -- arena rock! Quite honestly, I would not be as interested if it simply described more raga/drone/free jazz experimentation.

QuantumNoise, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 21:02 (sixteen years ago)

definitely!

last time I Chris Corsano - with Flower, i think - I kept thinking, 'any second now he's gonna drop into some straight up heavy rock beat', but of course it never happened.

but early 80s no wave meets melodic psychedelia? who else could be described like that?

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 23:45 (sixteen years ago)

This is probably going to be the best band ever. The new Flower-Corsano record is great too.

jonathan - stl, Thursday, 10 December 2009 04:32 (sixteen years ago)

Am I the only person whose primary engine of interest in this is SRB? I admit to knowing pretty much zilch about Chris Corsano...

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:19 (sixteen years ago)

you're not alone, no. his involvement is the real appetite whetter here, but that's quite a trio.

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:26 (sixteen years ago)

(sorry for using the word 'whetter'. yeeeuch)

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:26 (sixteen years ago)

Agreed w/ JL tho Chris Corsano does in fact rule.

retrovaporized nebulizer (╓abies), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)

Can only imagine how awesome this would be w/ both the Bishop bros.

retrovaporized nebulizer (╓abies), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)

can't you only imagine how awesome it will be as it is, or have you heard them?

mizzell, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I'm real curious what if anything Alan will do next as bassist/guitarist. But I'm all about how Richard is spreading his wings.

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:41 (sixteen years ago)

I wish! No this is gonna be totally awesome. I'm just daydreamin. xpost

retrovaporized nebulizer (╓abies), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:41 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, this sounds like it will be fun -- Chasny and Bishop one-upping each other, with Corsano blasting behind them ...

tylerw, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

saw ben and the bish performing together at a ATP a few years back, they were def on a classic rock tip then

corsano = a free drummer who is young enough to have the power/stamina/dexterity of someone like rashied ali in his prime - i've seen him play w/ flaherty/moore/o'rourke, matthew bower, heather leigh murray and he always rules - don't think hes ever worked w/ zorn, tho

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 10 December 2009 21:32 (sixteen years ago)

There is one full track and a collage thing up on the myspace now, people. Sounds pretty much like the best thing ever, as expected. Chasny and RB trading leads over Corsano's polyrhythmic scatter, other portions reminding me of 'Juggernaut' almost making me well up. So psyched. And 'Freak of Araby' was such an underrated album I feel, totally righteous in its simplicity and purity of intent, I love it. And this is a band that surely has enormous live potential: if these guys don't make it to Europe I'm going to start my own booking agency! Was a real scandal that the Araby band tour was called off due to 'lack of interest'.

myopic_void, Friday, 11 December 2009 12:24 (sixteen years ago)

that track's pretty sweet.

m the g, Friday, 11 December 2009 13:55 (sixteen years ago)

Wait what do you mean called off for lack of interest? I didn't know about that! They made it to NYC at least, where they fucking killed.

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Friday, 11 December 2009 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, I did not go to many shows this year, but would've gone to see the Freak of Araby live show if they came through my neck of the woods ...

tylerw, Friday, 11 December 2009 17:04 (sixteen years ago)

xp - European tour called off - US tour happened, and was quite extensive, and from what I heard, grueling.

sarahel, Friday, 11 December 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

four weeks pass...

"Excerpts in order to Tease" now up on myspace. wow wow wow. 1st one reminds me of Harry Pussy!

sleeve, Friday, 8 January 2010 00:14 (sixteen years ago)

oops myopic said that already, my bad.

sleeve, Friday, 8 January 2010 00:16 (sixteen years ago)

WOW, missed this thread the first time around.
so stoked!!! love all three of these dudes tbh.

Flowers/corsano duo is coming to town with MV EE with drummer from Sunburned Hand of the Man. I love chris corsano. and I really love sun city girls/richard bishop solo. who is ben chasny?

filthy dylan, Sunday, 11 April 2010 07:40 (sixteen years ago)

god this song on their myspace fucking rules.

filthy dylan, Sunday, 11 April 2010 07:41 (sixteen years ago)

sorry Im really high

filthy dylan, Sunday, 11 April 2010 07:42 (sixteen years ago)

who is ben chasny => 6 organs of admittance

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Sunday, 11 April 2010 07:59 (sixteen years ago)

He also played guitar in Comets on Fire.

Trip Maker, Sunday, 11 April 2010 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

Okay, now in the right mind. I can't believe I blanked on Ben Chasny. I would love to see these guys live.

filthy dylan, Sunday, 11 April 2010 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

fucking Barden's. what a bum choice.

gnarly sceptre, Sunday, 11 April 2010 17:33 (sixteen years ago)

this might be my record of the year so far! i haven't heard a lot of new records, I'll admit, but it is pretty awesome. They should just get together and record an album every couple of months.

tylerw, Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:17 (sixteen years ago)

otm, let's get to work ppl.

Snop Snitchin, Sunday, 11 April 2010 20:57 (sixteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

I want to hear this

van smack, Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

I got the promo this week!
It's pretty damn good.
Highlight is definitely the fifteen minute mellow closer, Plain of Jars. Kind of an Ex-Cocaine vibe on that song.
I'll be looking for it on vinyl once it's out, for sure.
Definitely had me thinking of Sun City Girls, but it has its own merits, for sure.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:04 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, got it as well and pretty much what Trip M sez.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i think the closer is my fave as well, though some of the more abrasive/heavier stuff is great too. they really sound like they are abusing their amps on some of these! in a good way.

tylerw, Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:21 (sixteen years ago)

There is a healthy amount of feedback.
This has "SEE IT LIVE" written all over it, imo.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:26 (sixteen years ago)

yeah no doubt. press release says they have US dates booked, but there aren't any listed on Drag City's site last time i looked.

tylerw, Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:30 (sixteen years ago)

They are playing in a hella cute wooden church in my locale in a bit less than a month and I have active expectations of it ruling

that's the band Matt Pike was in (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

i wanna hear this so bad

rizzx, Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

I'm majorly pumped that this 3'o got together. They're all amazing intuitive musicians with the capability to blow minds. Corsano's work w/ Flaherty, Flaherty/Yeh, David Grubbs, Flower, Jandek, and others is mostly all unfuckwithable.

ImprovSpirit, Thursday, 6 May 2010 16:12 (sixteen years ago)

I missed the first time they played here. Hopefully they announce a tour in the US soon.

van smack, Thursday, 6 May 2010 16:17 (sixteen years ago)

i hope they do a euro tour too. on a sidenote, anyone heard the new album on esp corsano did with paul dunmall?

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 6 May 2010 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

euro tour dates here: http://www.dragcity.com/artists/rangda

tylerw, Thursday, 6 May 2010 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

What did Corsano work with Grubbs on? Just curious.

International Harvester Of Eyes (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

oh hell yeah

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 19:48 (ten years ago)

the last Rangda show that guy recorded sounds really really good

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 19:48 (ten years ago)

i liked the first album but they honestly don't do too much for me :/

not sure what the deal is, they seem like something i'd like

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 19:59 (ten years ago)

has anyone heard alan bishop's new thing (with various master musicians of bukkake), Koes Barat?

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 20:00 (ten years ago)

Sunday in Minneapolis, I can't fucking wait!

chr1sb3singer, Friday, 11 March 2016 19:23 (ten years ago)

tonight i will see the rangda!

La Lechuza (La Lechera), Friday, 11 March 2016 19:28 (ten years ago)

i'm going to see this movie called Embrace of the Serpent tonight, which at least sounds like it could also be the title of a 25-minute Rangda blowout.

tylerw, Friday, 11 March 2016 19:42 (ten years ago)

I saw them and it was fantastic

chr1sb3singer, Monday, 14 March 2016 16:24 (ten years ago)

Same
They sounded just like I thought they would and I enjoyed it

La Lechuza (La Lechera), Monday, 14 March 2016 16:48 (ten years ago)

this record comes together for me more than the others but i'm not really sure why yet

adam, Monday, 14 March 2016 16:57 (ten years ago)

bishop's playing reminds me of bob drake in bits of this.

still don't think they've delivered on the promise of the first album, this record feels a bit enervated and rote

ogmor, Saturday, 19 March 2016 14:17 (ten years ago)

I dunno, I like this new one as much as the first one. There's a lot more of the 'surf raga' / Torch Of The Mystics-type stuff happening on this one. I thought the second album was just ok, but this one got me back on the horse

Of course, none of the albums compare to seeing them live

Wimmels, Saturday, 19 March 2016 15:19 (ten years ago)

they were excellent when I saw them, seemed to be having a really good time, chasny detuning himself mid solo, and they definitely sounded better than on record, but yeah, I don't really like SCG, I want more extremes

ogmor, Saturday, 19 March 2016 15:24 (ten years ago)

fuck, they were here last night and i missed them

flappy bird, Saturday, 19 March 2016 16:17 (ten years ago)

I don't really like SCG, I want more extremes

having a hard time parsing this w/r/t a band that made a career out of extremes, check out Dawn Of The Devi or Djinn Funnel or Bright Surroundings if u want dense Rangda type sound

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Saturday, 19 March 2016 17:13 (ten years ago)

I meant wrt rangda, miss the intensity of the first one

ogmor, Sunday, 20 March 2016 00:20 (ten years ago)

ah, gotcha, and I agree. Have not heard this new one but was not very enthused by the 2nd.

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Sunday, 20 March 2016 02:00 (ten years ago)

New live set just been upped to Dime

Stevolende, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 18:09 (ten years ago)

three months pass...

Three night residency @ Cafe Oto, 11-13 July. Supported by different solo sets/collaborations by each member on each night.

They could have been Stackridge. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 11:49 (nine years ago)

two months pass...

this record comes together for me more than the others but i'm not really sure why yet

― adam, Monday, March 14, 2016 9:57 AM (six months ago)

yeah I finally got Heretic's Bargain on LP and it is fantastic, but it's hard for me to articulate just what it is that made the previous one more disappointing - no wild parts? out of all the long epics I like "Hermetic Museum" the most, lots of variation and texture.

sleeve, Friday, 16 September 2016 00:27 (nine years ago)

has anyone heard the live 10"? are the versions different enough that it's worth getting?

sleeve, Friday, 16 September 2016 00:28 (nine years ago)

Man I haven't even heard the actual release/album yet, need to get on that.

grandavis, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:32 (nine years ago)

I know, I felt like I was totally late to it as well! A lot more surf guitar bouncy action and there's a pretty awesome 8-minute freakout with a long fadeout ending ("Hard Times Befall The Door-To-Door Glass Shard Salesman")

sleeve, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:57 (nine years ago)

yeah, it's good! especially love the long closer.
was just listening to david grubbs' new one and there are actually some pretty rangda-y moments on the tracks with drummer eli keszler

tylerw, Friday, 16 September 2016 14:10 (nine years ago)

I haven't checked in on a Grubbs thing in forrrever. Mirror Repair remains one of my favorite records of the 90s.

I wish you could see my home. It's... it's so... exciting (Jon not Jon), Friday, 16 September 2016 14:17 (nine years ago)

yeah, me neither -- this one is almost all instrumental, which is a plus in my book when it comes to his stuff. i like it!

tylerw, Friday, 16 September 2016 14:19 (nine years ago)
