i really like his remix of one night in nyc. it discards all of the trite campness of the original but replaces it with a wonderfully hypnotic deep house break, and somehow manages to out-drug the original

Truly, Oh My Gosh deserves credit for the leak, but it's such a good tune I couldn't help but post it again. It has secret summer smash written all over it. Add "Free Your Mind" with Jay and Villalobos is looking pretty good for '07.

the hour-long thing linked by "resolved" -- i'll get around to the rest of it later. but that thing is fucking fucking good.

oh man it keeps getting better.

like the surprisingly semi-straighforwardness of his 2raumwohnung's "wir sind die anderen" remix - after the introductions of the wonky-minimal beat, it retains a singular moodiness, the percussion is linked to the central melody instead of locked into eternal combat with it, and it gets all microgoth at the end.

some messy sentence construction there, sorry.

Wire cover story is a really good read. confirms I've spent too much time thinking about him because I feel like I already knew his views on music/DJing etc before reading them. and you know, this Fabric mix is going to be very special.

and props to Philip for highlighting 'Ichso'. my favourite too.

so villalobos doesn't do interviews "because I've said everything I want to say", except when he does do interviews for Wire? i get it now.

i'm late to the party, but i just got the "cell phone's dead" rmx in the mail and it is the business. of course i bought the white and now it's officially on bpitch. grr. i like how he has a noticeably different sound for each label and then for the remix material. like "ichso" is so cadenza, etc. surely the reason this guy has such a rep is because even his tracks have so much raw musicianship going on.

the wire interview is a lonnnggg time coming IMO as that magazine has unjustifiably ignored minimal techno and house for *years*, critical beats and one-pagers notwithstanding. now i won't cancel my sub.

He's being "offered" for interviews by distros here (Switz.) in relation to his upcoming Montreux festival set. Mayhaps there's been a policy change...
