from what i've read, some people say "please please please" is boring. but whatever, i'll try it sometime.

I still haven't gotten around to hearing that Agoria at the controls mix in full but need to. This is one of, perhaps my favourite style of electronic music (I suggested Le Noir - Eleny (radioslave remix) in another thread a moment ago, but it belongs here too).

been listening to Aril Brikha's "Deeparture in Time" which is pretty warm and melancholy at the same time. great album.

Jorg Burger's mix under his Modernist moniker is also quite luscious (though not sad enough maybe ;-)

Glitterbug fits in here nicely - he's mining the same territory as early Lawrence, doesn't feel that derivative.

I guess this one is more trance than techno, but I've always found the synth line in "Herzsprung 1" immensely sad.

That Modernist mix someone mentioned upthread definitely fits the criteria. Just for 'Stay' by Autobianchi. Which is one of those techno tracks with really trite lyrics ('when i heard you say/that you would leave today/i only wanted you to stay') that somehow sounds affecting.
