]NIGHTGOAT says:

So, I'm sure troops in the SS didn't have much choice either. It was hard being in Nazi Germany, ya know, with all those great uniformed SS and NOT join them. Shucks.

yes because you see American minorities are a direct parallel to the SS and Nazis

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

Now I've got Duran Duran in my head. "Waiting...for the nightgoat!"

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

NIGHTGOAT is missing the big point of my piece that I didn't exactly spell out. I can't exactly judge someone for joining the army because I've been fortunate enough in my life to never have that even be an option. I don't know what upbringing Stewart has, but I can tell you that a HUGE HUGE SUFFOCATINGLY HUGE portion of the audience for indie-noise pitchfork bands is in the same boat as me.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:30 (sixteen years ago)

I don't know, I thought you pretty explicitly spelled that out

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

Like, to the point where the only way I can see NIGHTGOAT making that post is if he either saw the song listed and just commented without reading the piece or he is just functionally illiterate.

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

dude is def on my team with that screen name tho

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:32 (sixteen years ago)

I remember when the army recruiters came to my school with the mandatory tests to see what you'd be good at in the army and I was just uh "I'm pretty sure my fat ass is going to college, can I just save you a step?"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:35 (sixteen years ago)

i see why this song is hated on but still, the Harry Partch noise and various squealing doodads are pretty cool

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

27!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 December 2009 14:59 (sixteen years ago)

I am perturbed by how the frame that you see before playing that Youtube clip shows Kelly looking down the front of her trousers. Still not going to watch it tbh

I AGREE WITH THE COSMETIC SURGERY (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:04 (sixteen years ago)

i still own both kelly osbourne albums and i have never successfully listened to this track all the way through

da croupier, Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:12 (sixteen years ago)

there are two?????

mascara and pies (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

I am spontaneously generating incredibly creepy cavities as I listen to this

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:32 (sixteen years ago)

okay why is there a gospel choir in this

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

there are two?????

Shut Up (glossy, obnoxious garage rock from a celine dion producer) and Sleeping In The Nothing (campy '80s homages from Linda Perry)

da croupier, Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

Kelly has had the weirdest career:

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

gotta love how she's a consistent quarter-step flat for the entire song

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

Of all the things to complain about, Dan...

Meatcat (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:02 (sixteen years ago)

I like (and own) both Kelly Osbourne albums, actually -- and I'm pretty sure this song is not on either album I have (Maura says it was on the re-release of Shut Up, but I have the original one). This one is perfect for F2K tho.

Is it reality or Simon Reynolds? (dabug), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:12 (sixteen years ago)

yeah shut up was re-released as Changes by her second label Sanctuary with the aforementioned title cover (which was a #1 in the uk, i think!) and some ghastly live tracks.

da croupier, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:18 (sixteen years ago)

Still love "One Word" though.

Hell is other people. In an ILE film forum. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 3 December 2009 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

Surprise! Two in one day!

26!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

And yes, we've officially released the halfway point.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

it's gonna be two a day from now on iirc

balut kweli (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I was thinking "Okay, who would be waiting on the F2K entry due on Xmas day?" I mean, besides me.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

holy fucking lolz, esp. at the last part

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)

ok yeah that is terrible and i feel really bad because its the first act i really expected better from

mascara and pies (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

Oh hey Dan, you were right about yesterday's entry generating lolsy comments:

The fact is that, as a music writer, you are paid to write about music, and that instead of doing your job you chose to vilify a piece of music because the lyrics do not agree with your own politics. This puts you in the same camp as Rush Limbaugh, Goebbels, and Stalin.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

okay listening to this Beastie Boys song feels like watching your formerly-hip uncle attempt to do a headspin at age 75

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

okay I clicked back to the video near the end of this and WTF at the whole thing

okay now I've restarted it looking at the video and SRSLY, WTF

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:26 (sixteen years ago)

Hey Whiney, what's Stalin like to hang out with? Bet he makes a mean vodka tonic.

mascara and pies (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:06 (sixteen years ago)

wow i had never heard changes before. horrific, and i, like others upthread, think both her albums are great, and not just because of the pix in the booklets

an error has occurred (electricsound), Thursday, 3 December 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

I apologize for suggesting earlier in the thread that "Open Letter to NYC" is anywhere close to this, btw.

Is it reality or Simon Reynolds? (dabug), Friday, 4 December 2009 03:28 (sixteen years ago)

Wow. I expected this to place at least top ten. EVERYBODY hated this song.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 4 December 2009 04:11 (sixteen years ago)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 December 2009 14:27 (sixteen years ago)
