Tracer, when Fine Wine gets back from Spain, we should go see him at Botanica or one of his other gigs.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 04:28 (twenty years ago)

Totally!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

Favorite back to back shows: Charlie and Tony Coulter. I liked Fabio's show a lot too, sorry to see him go. Was the departure his idea or was he chased out?

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

im sad to loose fabio as well and fully support the charlie/tony combo.

kenny g's been brilliant since his return. as has rob lim.

bb (bbrz), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Hatch, cuz he's my housemate

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

My favorite DJ is probably Marc Grobman but my favorite show is probably Monica's.

Me too!

I love the Spazz and many others, though.

babyalive (babyalive), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

if admissions staffs like me, I will be at WESU.

babyalive (babyalive), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

I was a WESU DJ! I miss my old show :(

Candicissima (candicissima), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

Ken, Irwin, Kenny G, Rex, Tony Coulter, Prof. Dum Dum, Kevin Nutt, Mr Fine Wine, Chris T. (I listen to a lot of FMU and I can't decide between them - okay, if I had to pick one it'd be Ken)

I also liked the Pounding System with Clay (who always sounded very down), Small Change (who was fond of the term "Schlitz" instead of "shit" which always cracked me up), and the Bossa Nova show.

Brakhage (brakhage), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

I've been unable to listen to weekday shows or archives for a year, so I sorely miss Charlie, Trouble, Ken and Monica.

You should really hear Mark Allen's Halloween show from last Saturday, the body-disposal instructions and Dario Argento murder collage in partic:

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Bob Brainen all the way baby.

Jonathan DD, Wednesday, 2 November 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Brainen is always good.

What happened to Laura Cantrell this season? Busy promoting her new album? Hope she returns next season.

TRG (TRG), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

I believe her touring schedule made doing her show impractical, at least for now.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Laura's touring schedule is going to keep her from making the amount of shows asked for DJs to take a slot for a season, we hope she's back in the spring, if not sooner doing fill-ins.

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Thursday, 3 November 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

I LOVE WFMU!

howell huser (chaki), Thursday, 3 November 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
yo. I'm the current president of WESU... Just want to give a call from the abyss... we've seen better days, but we're still kicking. The NPR/WSHU bit has been damaging, but... we're working our way out of it, slowly...:
wesufm.org

Anyway, I'm originally from jersey, so, much love to FMU!

Evan Simko-Bednarski, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 06:02 (twenty years ago)

No more Fabio? What happened? As I mentioned above I haven't listened in quite a while but Fabio was one of my favorites.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

Did he jump or was he pushed!

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

Anyone catch FMU as host of NY Noise? I don't usually watch, because I don't usually like it, but I happened to catch this one -- wow! Early Fall, Beefheart (best video ever????), Devo, Lesley Gore, Serge. Those were some wild videos. I cut my phone conversation off in mid-sentence to watch.
Brian - when are they going to podcast your show? I can never listen but would like to.

TRG (TRG), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Fabio'll be back next schedule period, as will Laura Cantrell hopefully, she's touring a lot this season for her album. Thanks for the kind words on the Tv show, was really nice of em to allow those clips to go on. Did you notice that after the Beefheart clip, they had one of those anti-drug PSA TV commercials go on where guys were making crystal meth to what sounded like Beefheart playing in the background. As for podcasting, unfortunately right now we're limited to the shows that have non-licensed music (i.e. talk shows, antique phonograph, collage), maybe that will change someday.

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

A-ha, thanks - hadn't noticed it was only those shows being podcasted, but that makes sense. And yeah, also noticed the Crystal Meth commercial but didn't notice the music. Is the Beefheart vid available on something? (Should probably pay more attention to DVDs but I don't.)

TRG (TRG), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

xpost TRG: even if it's not as automated as a podcast, saving shows to your hard drive is really very easy. Save the .m3u file that the "Listen to mp3" link brings up to your hard drive, instead of playing it. Open that file in a text editor (e.g. Notepad in Windows)--that will show the direct link to the mp3 file of the show. Plug that link into a download manager and you've got it. WFMU seems to keep the mp3 links active for 2-3 weeks--after that it's just the Real Audio format, which sounds pretty cruddy.

These Robust Cookies (Robust Cookies), Friday, 9 December 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Robust for the tip!

Yeah, thanks Robust

one year passes...

This Hatch character (9-12 on Tuesdays) appears to be a genius, if only he'd step off the old reggae just a bit.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 03:58 (eighteen years ago)

whats is the deal with kenny g?

chaki, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 04:01 (eighteen years ago)

station manager ken

mookieproof, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 04:08 (eighteen years ago)

Anything with Andy Breckman. (Really liked the time they fooled him into thinking the station hadn't met their marathon goal and they had a sign warning the DJs not to berate the listeners for falling short and Andy couldn't get over the idea that DJs had to be told not to do so.)

Noah Zark for indy hip-hop. Bill Kelly for the twenty-five years or whatever it's been. If anyone had the opportunity to hear the Vanilla Bean, Frank Balesteri, back in the late 80s, RIP, Frank. Amazing improvisor. Cantrell, Belock...the ones who still play music and don't turn it into a show about them. (I know he's like a lifer, but Irwin, man, you're not that cool...

Hova was my favorite before he skipped town.

mike a, Thursday, 27 December 2007 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

SINNER'S CROSSROADS!!! Can't believe it's not been mentioned here, yet. My favorite show holy fuck, so good.

There are at least a dozen shows I miss a lot, even shows I didn't necessarily dig at the time like whatsisface the guy who had the retro show on Saturdays (I think?) in the late '80s, who used to be a pot delivery guy for his day job -- fuck it's gonna drive me crazy. He had some silly nickname? He played a lot of great raw Norton type stuff...

Anyway it's so great that Brian and Fabio are still on the air -- I always get turned on to so much stuff by them. Wish I could podcast their shit!

Mike McGooney-gal, Friday, 28 December 2007 09:32 (eighteen years ago)

The Hound, Mike? I thought he ran a bar or something.

mike a, Friday, 28 December 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

that one on Ave B -- is it still there? Lakeside Lounge?

DJs are doing their best-of-2007 on the blog, btw:

Dr Morbius, Friday, 28 December 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

i like hearing the beginning of dj rupture's show at the end of my seven second delay podcasts. too bad there's not a podcast version of his show (?).

Jordan, Friday, 28 December 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Mudd Up! (the /rupture show) is great. I listen to it at the end of my workday on Wednesdays.

Alex in SF, Friday, 28 December 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

Strangely the little I've heard of Seven Second Delay isn't funny at all.

Alex in SF, Friday, 28 December 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

It's easier once you understand that the show is often funnier when it's not funny.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 28 December 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't think it was funny at first either, and now I luv it.

Jordan, Friday, 28 December 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

mike a -- yes that was it, the hound! and of course i meant "allegedly" in ref. to his other job before he opened that bar.

Mike McGooney-gal, Friday, 28 December 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

After moving to Vermont, Charlie has hooked up with WVEW and has a show starting tomorrow (2-4 p.m. Eastern). Station has live stream! Yay!
