i was actually hating on robbie much more until yesterday - becky's offences are way more egregious today
― lex pretend, Thursday, 12 November 2009 23:54 (sixteen years ago)
lex yes that is some pretty classic glenda slagg style shit
(you won't get that reference i fear - here is a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenda_Slagg )
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 12 November 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)
masonic boom that's true but t.b.f. robbie's more recent posts have been a lot less glaringly egregious by my lights (not that they are actually interesting)
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 12 November 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)
the fact that robbie's old blog apparently gained a huge audience and enough traction for him to interview several big name pop stars and parlay a "career" out of horrifies me so very deeply
― lex pretend, Friday, 13 November 2009 00:00 (sixteen years ago)
Robbie just seems like a news/pr funnel with no defined opinions of his own, even on his own blog. Since he's starting from a pretty neutral place, it's possible he could improve. Becky's hill to climb is much steeper, coming from a gossip blogging background. And actually, she's shown ZERO inclination that she's ever going to change.

i can't wait for their article on the strokes
"The Strokes, a band that initially rose to fame in the New York independent music scene in 2001, are all set to release the first album of their career after lead singer Julius Casablanca's ill-fitting solo career -- which included an oft-discussed appearance on the popular late night show hosted by Conan O'Brian that the befreckled redhead took over from enduring late-night presence Jay Leno -- started to chafe the New Yorker's grungy (but kinda hott!) style."
― The Cure for Mugabe's Concubine (dabug), Friday, 13 November 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)
"The record is said to return to the bands roots -- and speaking of roots, any chance we'll see more of those highlights even after Julius's turn in the spotlight has faded? ;)"
― The Cure for Mugabe's Concubine (dabug), Friday, 13 November 2009 01:38 (sixteen years ago)
U r good at this

hey can someone point me to the becky brags abt her sex life thing so i don't have to actually read this blog?
― call all destroyer, Friday, 13 November 2009 03:00 (sixteen years ago)
the lamest part of this all is that they're not even going to host the rest of F2K. it rubs me as dismissive and mean-spirited, like children not wanting to play with some dorky clumsy kid just cause he spilled some milk on his shirt. just a weirdly hard-assed way of getting the WE DON'T DO THIS TYPE OF SHIT ANYMORE OK point across.
― samosa gibreel, Friday, 13 November 2009 03:19 (sixteen years ago)
i thought there was a considerableish market for smart music talk on the internet, i thought sites like this could surivive on atleast pitchfork fallout.
― samosa gibreel, Friday, 13 November 2009 03:22 (sixteen years ago)
i'm willing to bet that not hosting the rest of F2K was maura/whiney's choice

― ô_o (Nicole), Friday, 13 November 2009 03:28 (sixteen years ago)
yeah samosa that is what has been bugging me too but I haven't been able to articulate it. i guess its just the recession hitting the 'net. the pie is much smaller now so catering to a niche cannot be as lucrative. it is a short term strategy, though, that usually fails in the long term because the niche is usually much more loyal. never mind the quality of the writing on idolator now - I doubt the people whom that writing appeals to are going to have the same relationship to the blog now that those of us who read idolator before had with it then.
― Shh! It's NOT Me!, Friday, 13 November 2009 03:30 (sixteen years ago)
there was this ska band i loved as a youngster who desperately overhauled their style to the then-megapopular emo pop thing as a last-chance grab for fame. they got their album produced by some bigshot and were picked up by some label, and then when the album dropped nobody noticed them and they broke up like a few months later. i predict a similar future for nu-idolator; i doubt anyone will even notice it in an already endless sea of perez hiltons, and it'll disappear forever.
― samosa gibreel, Friday, 13 November 2009 03:43 (sixteen years ago)
that ska band...
was me.
― CharlieS, Friday, 13 November 2009 09:50 (sixteen years ago)

nice imaginary abbreviation for thespian in that one
No, I've seen "thesp" before. But mostly in Variety and Page Six and the like. Remember, this is a woman who used to blog for E!
― Nuyorican oatmeal (jaymc), Friday, 13 November 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)
Is it because she's a thespian?
― ô_o (Nicole), Friday, 13 November 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)
apparently you don't have to register to comment on Idolator anymore.
― kshighway1, Friday, 13 November 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)
I think the whole becky thing is probably news because they've finally unearthed a music blogger that's had sex before.

The ILXor circle of life:
1. Earnest poster ("Hey guyz, so what you all want to talk about on this fine day?")
2. Quitter ("I'm leaving never to return. No offense, assholes")
3. The poster's return as a cynic who speaks mostly in memes, jpegs and sentence fragments.
ksighway1, you can't escape destiny, brah.
