Although I think the only thing saving Robbie is that he was smart enough to not write several blog posts about how easy it is to have sex with him.

maybe he's a virgin

Also, I thought Whiney was gonna come in here and bust out some serious gossip about what went down, but after making such an excellent entrance, he disappeared. Did you guys sign some kind of nondisclosure agreement or what?

Persian Pickle (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 12 November 2009 21:52 (sixteen years ago)

they = us or bloggers blogging about idolator blogger?

yeah Dan that is difference

they = mostly those swarm posts TBH but it's getting a bit uncomfortable in here

Persian Pickle (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 12 November 2009 21:55 (sixteen years ago)

Those Daily Swarm posts were kind of the epitome of "please stop helping".

Eh, I don't know if there's much to tell. Actually I don't know much at all.

wacka flocka seagulls (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

eh i think i was really more reacting to the way she writes about her sexual exploits than anything else. she is her own person and she should do what she wants without trying to appease the double standard. i guess i just dont live in a world where all sexual contact is effortless and consequence-less and can be written about withe the same insouciance as, say, getting a cup of coffee.

Shh! It's NOT Me!, Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:23 (sixteen years ago)

Whiney return v v v v anticlimactic.

i dunno what juicy gossip you guys expect, other than like "the whole buzznet thing was kinda doomed from the start and it was just a matter of time before the other shoe dropped"

some dude, Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:27 (sixteen years ago)

My take is that this thread/idolator comments/daily swarm is kind of acting like it's this insidious thing when it's probably just BUSINESS. I'm sadder than anyone about it, but you can't really blame anyone. It's not rocket science that

a) It's cheaper to pay two struggling L.A. improv comics/bloggers than one experienced New York editor/media type who was probably holding on to a Gawker-circa-2006 salary.

b) Intellegent, well-reasoned criticism on things like Alphabeat isn't gonna get the same Google traffic as a constant stream of Britney Gaga Penis Lambert Cyrus Nude Winehouse Nipslip keywords

yes, they've lost the important urbane ILXor demographic, but as someone who was top brass at Paper Thin Walls, I can tell you that's not really enough to keep the lights for anybody anywhere. We're but a drop in the bucket, y'all.

wacka flocka seagulls (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

all true.

Shh! It's NOT Me!, Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, there's something really quite distasteful and creepy the way they keep piling the abuse on Becky - it's just smacks of the old "let's use a woman's sexuality against her..." trick. While Robbie gets a free pass for being a functional idiot.

I don't think her sex had anything to do with why Becky was getting ridiculed, though I don't like it when someone's past idiocy is unearthed by too much internet detective work. Everyone who runs a blog or posts on boards says stupid or embarrassing shit occasionally.

Cunga, Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

I mean "look, here she was talking about her sex life once on a thread" just makes me cringe. Here recent work on Idolator is fairer game.

Cunga, Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

In a post-Candace Bushnell - heck - post-Lisa Suckdog/Carver world I'd really kinda hope that a woman writing about her sex life/drugs habits would not provoke that kind of Victorian aunt "oh my!" and hankies reaction. She's a bad writer BECAUSE SHE CANNOT WRITE, not because of her subject material.

I'd hope, if anything, that writers like Miss AMP et al could prove that women can bring their sex lives/drug experiences/musician digging lifestyles as background material into their prose *and* provide engaging and meaningful discourse about music.

Becky sucks because she's a shit writer. Not because she writes about sex.

Persian Pickle (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

i think there's only one post on this thread remarking about her article though, besides the original link to the article

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

i agree though that she should be judged on the awfulness of her prose

I don't think that's the reaction it provokes. I read it and thought, "wow, she desperately wants to be cool."

a Barbie-like nub where he provates should be (HI DERE), Thursday, 12 November 2009 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

yeah tbh my reaction to it (particularly the notching her bedpost for completing conquests from various countries) was really lol bragging - u lame, and it would have been the same way for a dude.

is the shit she's churning out not enough to mock her with? the sex bragging is like the least offensive thing i know about her, way to miss a massive target. and yeah please more robbie hate too.

apparently they think "depress-o-rama indie flick" is the best way to sum up precious today, and barely get any further than "depressing" when describing rihanna's new material. GOD I HATE THEM SO MUCH.

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 November 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

Music that, like, makes you think? Is totally, like, depressing? LOL

Cunga, Thursday, 12 November 2009 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

I can't get too worked up over the Becky-bashing, considering how her writing has that kind of dumb Perez-style misogyny that I find repulsive.

BECKY ATTEMPTS TO OPINE; FAILS

http://idolator.com/5292062/eat-it-les-miz-pop-music-takes-over-broadway

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is heading to New York to star in Chicago as Roxie Hart, a role she already played back in 2006 in London’s West End. (If you know anything about musical theatre, you know Roxie Hart is the perfect role for alleged who can’t really sing. Just sayin’.) At least Ash is keeping busy after being fired from Melrose Place, and since her last album didn’t do too well on the charts or with fans, it’s probably best to go back to the one thing she mostly received great reviews from.

http://idolator.com/5292152/top-5-pop-stars-who-should-never-act-again

People love to rag on the younger Simpson lass for all sorts of things (her infamous SNL jig dance, marrying King of the Emos Pete Wentz, getting the most obvious plastic surgery of all time, etc.), when really they should be focusing all their anger on Ashlee’s acting ability.

Ash’s atrocious thesp skills didn’t really stand out while she was on 7th Heaven (good acting would actually have been more noticeable on that show) or on Broadway, since 75% of her time onstage was talk-singing good material. But after a horrible CSI:NY episode (where she played some sort of Bonnie-ish criminal alongside hubby Pete’s Clyde) and her short lived stint on Melrose Place as nutso Violet, Ash should consider getting fired from the CW show a blessing in disguise to get back to what she does best: having cute babies, rocking awesome hair and releasing fun pop songs.

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 November 2009 23:37 (sixteen years ago)

It's karma.

I should write something about Becky getting back to serving drinks and sleeping with foreigners.

nice imaginary abbreviation for thespian in that one

@bexmachine i'm fucking in love with mash-ups. this one in particular. you can mashup Jay Z with anything and it comes out brill http://jaydiohead.com/

I find it absolutely ridiculous and almost offensive that a person being PAID to blog about music, even the most inane pop music available, only stumbled recently across mash-ups (maybe even just today). I realize she's been busy working on stand-up and boning English rockers, but maybe she should've made the time to hear "Ray of Gob" of few years ago.

lolololol, so glad that idolator writers be telling the world about jay z acapellas! in 2009! they are so advanced! i should mash them up with the beatles.

So am I to take it that Robbie doesn't write? Or writes reasonably well, or something?

This hatred seems really kinda one sided.

compare & contrast the two posts though - posted by the same author, two days apart.

post 1: ashlee simpson is going back to acting - just as well, it's all she's good at and she can't sing
post 2: OMG ashlee simpson's acting sucks LOL, she should stick to singing (and being barefoot & pregnant etc)
