this is quickly becoming my favorite electronic album of recent history. have listened and relistened for days now on headphones and it keeps getting better. amazing straight through and that's quite a feat for albums of this nature.

Really digging it a lot. I'm not too into Allien but Apparat is my IDM go to guy and this is just exceptionally lovely. No doubt this will whet my appetite until the next Apparat solo release.

some of this has a real ode to retro equipment and object feel to me. like she went to an antique store, junk yard, and old Ma Bell lab, found old wheels, balls, toys and wrote odes to this shit with her new machines. i love Floating and Edison sooooo much.

My thoughts: don't send out your album if you don't want it to be leaked. have a listening party, put annoying ID's all over it...alternately, get a real job cuz you ain't gonna get paid in full making this kind of music. either get a real job or make cheesy club bangers cuz gorgeous head music like this just doesn't sell millions of copies.

I just figured out that our album is allready avaliable on flie sharing platforms. even if thought im pretty modern when it comes to the distribution of music i have to say i find that weird and it makes me kind of sad. i spent a lot of time on that thing. i have no problem with people downloading it - id be curious as well.
but i feel a lot of anger when i think about how it got there. i mean - we are sending those promos to journalists - and those guys have the privilege to listen to all the music first. and they get it for free by the way. im sure the mayority of them are cool and profeessional but its a shame that there are some buttholes inbetween having nothing else to do than uploading the album IN THE FIRST WEEK THEY GOT IT. somebody even uploaded a zip file on yousendit dot com and postet the link. what the fuck. im spending months in the studio on stuff like that!

anyway - this has something good for you guys:
we will do an exclusive bonus track for the final version which will be NOT sent to the press.
at least one reason to wait until april 15th.

show and yes - not everybody can afford buying all the music.

i can't understand his issue since i'm not a musician and can't imagine what it's like to have something leaked months ahead of release. however, why is it going to be 3 months before the albums released if it's done now? why did they send out copies 3/4 months in advance? i still think the heart of the matter is money.

if he wasn't concerned with money, he wouldn't be worried about the album leaking. my point was, if he's worried about the money, he needs to reanalyze what kind of music he makes. i love the Apparat stuff i've bought and downloaded and i love this album. everyone whose heard the album thinks is great. if he was making music for himself and the satisfaction that people like his music, then he'd be happy about the response. as it stands, he comes off as if he's concerned with the money and regardless of this album leaking, he wasn't going to get rich off an album on Bpitch. he needs to make a track that Sasha can include on his next DJ mix and enjoy the royalties off of that. i've met several producers who live off of Sasha and Digweed royalties, Pete Lazonby for instance, and they now make music for themselves and for the love of music. i might be reading too much into it but the underlying point of his anger is he's losing money.

biz, it's like planning a big birthday party then walking in to see that someone's had a few slices of cake before anyone else got there. I don't think it's about getting rich, it's about having a sense of accomplishment and unveiling your work to the world. I mean, why have release dates at all if not to put a deadline on something.

i can see where it would be annoying, but journalists leaking their promo copies is not a new phenomenon. if they were concerned with the leak, they should have witheld the album. this has been done successfully in the past. the artwork is done, the copies are pressed, why not just release the album now instead of having it ready and sitting on it for 3 months? the only reason that makes sense is so they can get reviewed/hype which basically means they want to sell copies. no harm in that. the leaked album cuts into sales. he's not saying it but that's what i'm hearing. i'm a bit stubborn and thick headed though, so it may take a few more people putting me in my place for me to see the light. i do have UV protection on so please, show me the light.

Yeah, it does seem a little early to be sent out to journalists. What's the standard lead time on these things? I'd imagine it's higher for smaller releases because big label stuff is likely to take precedence on the review schedule, maybe.

i'm with apparat. i got sent a promo very early - and yes, lead time is always several months, many mags are planning shit 4-5 months in advance. the bigger the mag, the bigger the lead time. anyway, not to sound like a self-righteous dick, but when people asked me to YSI it, i said, "no, sorry, can't do that." i'm in this biz because i support the music, which means i support the artists. and while i do believe that illegal downloading can help raise an artist's buzz or profile, i also don't think journos have any right to be leaking shit.

one solution, perhaps the only one, is for labels to be more forthcoming with "leaking" selected tracks from hotly anticipated releases, to tide people over until the full release. i haven't seen apparat's page, he may well feature a track or two in streaming mode there. but i don't think press should be uploading shit, and i can't blame artists/labels for being mad at it.

i agree philip, journos don't have any right to leak their promo copies. albums will leak, however, and artists need to be proactive to negate the effects of the leak. those prereleases with jingles and ID's are annoying but effective. send out 2 or 3 tracks from the album to journalists since they only ever mention a few tracks in their reviews. create a short megamix from the album. host listening parties for journalists. these are all successful strategies and could benefit the artists in the long run. do artists control the release of their albums? i always thought the label was in charge of the release schedule and not the artist.

on the upside, the promo has FANTASTIC sound (maybe that's a downside in terms of promptin folks to buy the cd) for some reason. noticed its encoded with LAME - i have no idea if that is why.

I have felt less like wanting to comment since hearing about them both finding the leaks so disheartening :/

I feel regretful about mentioning it at the top of the thread now, but then I was expecting it to leak a few weeks before the release, like "Thrills" (and every other record out there) I guess I'd be buying it anyway so my conscience is clear(ish) but it now feels a little selfish in retrospect to be drawing attention to it... althought I hadn't quite anticipated how often (a lot more) compared to last year, direct http download links end up posted in the thread at some point nowadays. No p2p involved. It's just too easy.

i can comment without a guilty conscience as my copy is a legit promo and i did no leaking hurrah (though i am shocked at how quickly it got out - it leaked two days before my copy even arrived! are there people whose instant reaction to receiving promos is to rip them? madness).

every time i listen to it it sounds different; the only one i'm not sure about is 'leave me alone', does anyone know who's singing on it?

To calm things down a bit: it was just my record dealer telling me that Ellen Allien doesn't want to put the record out anymore. She was pissed and angry, alright. But she knows how to do business. Maybe she'll think about it. I mean - I don't see a record like this THAT MUCH affected because of early leakage. But that's just me.

I got the promo around late Jan. Since then its been playing on our electronic channel "A Chance to Cure", and also on the main channel, in the battle for haters' hearts and minds. I haven't heard from Berlin that the release date is any later than the original April date.

went through a period of disinterest and am liking this MUCH more but there's a limit. and the songs here seem so personal for a collaboration -as if EA and A are REALLY good friends. whether ture, i like the idea. and am i a cheeseball for liking "Way Out" so much?
