ha omg fux sake! for years i ws like "that v.v. rmx is prob the one thing i recall never ever hearing, but i shall do something with that curio b-side one day"

(this is the tune that begins "let me now turn to our program for the future" yeah?)

that explanation is semi-bunk tho, it ws one of the few 12s then of that ilk that had a label aaaaaand it said the following:

kano
vice versa
n.a.s.t.y

(erm also the label is on the boys luv girls side. i can always blame jungle for swapping intended label-sides tho)

make of it all what u will.

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Thursday, 14 July 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

thing is, if thats what kano produces, why doesnt he do more beats?!?!

ppp, Thursday, 14 July 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Roll Deep (with Wiley) and Kano are both playing separate dates in NYC shortly...

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 14 July 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

the roll deep album is nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be (on occasion by me), but it's not terribly good either.

i'm not sure that the kano album is that much better, although maybe that's just because none of the songs which are new to me are that great.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 14 July 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

The good half of the Roll Deep album is really quite good. If they had replaced the bad half with Aim High Volume 2 tracks it would have been the best album by the year by so far it wouldn't even be funny.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 14 July 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

All the Roll Deep and Roll Deep-related tracks on Aim High 2 are amazing - I adore esp. Breeze on "Be Like This".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
anyone heard anything about a U.S. release date for Home Sweet Home or should I spring for an import copy?

T. Weiss (Timmy), Thursday, 11 August 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Finally got round to listening this all the way through and I don't really see the hate at all. If you factor out Typical Me, I think its pretty much faultless up to an including Brown Eyes. Then it all goes horribly wrong and picks up with the last couple of tracks.

I even like the bits where he goes all emo.

layer cake mix cd was crap.

hes lost his drive, far as i can tell. very uninspired lately. cnt imagine all those features are going to help him much.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 9 July 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

Remember when he did a song with Klashnekoff? That was OK.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 9 July 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

i dont remember.

id like to see him doing a song with both beddingfield siblings though. or someone else thats really shit.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 9 July 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

back in the day i said grindie will never die.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 9 July 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

I'm confident that this Kano album will be worse than the Bizzle one, which is not very good to begin with

DJ Mencap, Monday, 9 July 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

everyone but me seems to have heard the bizzle one

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 9 July 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

i haven't heard the bizzle album. this is deliberate

lex pretend, Monday, 9 July 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

i have a special place in my heart for the bizzle.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 9 July 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

this new album is so so shit.

tragically shit.

titchyschneiderMk2, Saturday, 28 July 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

so it leaked?

groovemaaan, Saturday, 28 July 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

i thnk the prob with kano doing more hip hop beats is that he doesnt really have dominant enough voice. he sort of gets lost. he needs more faster, syncopated beats to really fit right. thats just me though. ive been saying the same thing for about 50 years...

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 6 August 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

It didn't sound as bad as I thought (predicted on another thread in fact, I think) it might, given a cursory listen, but certainly not jumping out, and that Craig David teamup is just the pits

Is Kano going for the Radio 2 friendly version of grindie then?

Matt DC, Monday, 6 August 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

Kano feat. Tom Chaplin - Broadway Market

Matt DC, Monday, 6 August 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

Kano feat. Pinefox - Am I Ready To Be Heartbroken?

Matt DC, Monday, 6 August 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

Can someone else who's heard it help me pinpoint what exactly it is about 140 Grime Street that doesn't quite work? I'm sure it must be something more than 'trying too hard' but I can't work out what.

Matt DC, Monday, 29 September 2008 11:34 (seventeen years ago)

Perhaps it is because Kano is an insufferable douchebag?

tpp, Monday, 29 September 2008 11:38 (seventeen years ago)

*haven't heard the album

tpp, Monday, 29 September 2008 11:40 (seventeen years ago)

It could be that the only decent Kano track ever was a nu-metal joint and he's steadfastly stayed away from that genre since? Maybe he should see what Disturbed are up to these days, collab w/them.

Carrie Bradshaw Layfield (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Monday, 29 September 2008 11:43 (seventeen years ago)

too monochromatic? it's a million light years better than what i was expecting though and the wiley track kills, so thumbs up.

lex pretend, Monday, 29 September 2008 11:44 (seventeen years ago)

No it's not that it's monochromatic, it's more that the beats sort of drag in a weird way and he's rubbish whenever he tries to slow down. Most of the production doesn't really feel propulsive enough so even the good verses have this running through quicksand feel.

Matt DC, Monday, 29 September 2008 11:48 (seventeen years ago)

reasons its a bit dull to me -
bit late in the day - this should have been what his debut was like (ie a grime-focused album)
kano sounds like hes doing it cos he has to, not cos he wants to, so some of it sounds a bit like an exercise hes really exerting himself to be interested in (and also really trying hard to sound hard)
the beats arent all that good, though they are grimier
kanos hooks are pretty rubbish and that slow flow of his that he uses on them has never sounded good, not even on mic check
he hasnt got much to say, not for a full album
the flow isnt what it used to be

only collabo i thought was good on there was the one with ghetto.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 29 September 2008 13:49 (seventeen years ago)

I'm no afficionado but I thought it was brilliant! Love the production (big spacey and bass-y like some UK halfway house between Deltron 3030 and the first Pendulum album, although that's probably gonna put everyone off).

the next grozart, Monday, 29 September 2008 13:56 (seventeen years ago)

Also big minus points for Mikey J for fumbling the Omar whistle, could have been so sinister and menacing but no, they cocked it up.

Matt DC, Monday, 29 September 2008 13:59 (seventeen years ago)

"hustler" is so dope

does the rest of the album sound like this

intrigued by lex's review in the guardian but everything that lex reviews in the guardian is 4 stars unless it's klaxons so im still holding out

a passion for posting (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

two months pass...

Think it was Tim who dismissed the Tinchy album as merely competent and then went back to it a month or so later and go "wow!" Exactly the same thing happened to me with this album - think I just needed to get over it not being 14 versions of Ps and Qs.

And yes, the album does sound a lot like Hustler. The best track is the Davinche banger, I Like It, towards the end though. That and the Wiley one.

read more of my reviews!! uhh i won't deny i was wavering between 3 and 4 stars for this though. it's 7/10 basically, as are so many others. like matt i went back to it recently and was pleased that it held up, esp 'hunting we will go'.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

having spent a regrettable 6 minutes with the wiley album today (finally the album stevem's been threatening to make all these years) i was quite up for giving this a fair crack of the whip. unfortunately however my patriotism is not such that i will stand for a bunch of embarrassing americanisms unconvincingly delivered over fake runners beats. (i am a longtime respecter of mikey j's very competent orchestral gangsta but this is overkill. the wiley tune's kool.)

(and) i like it when kane says he finds ironing therapeutic though. me 2!! i even do my socks.
