What's AoA like? Also, Gygax! -- have you seen the 7VO7 video floating around slsk?

People love Gravity and Ebullition! (ex machina), Thursday, 24 June 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

AOA is a straight-up hippy trance techno outfit, but in a good way.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 24 June 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ROVO sounds like Rebore quite frequently!

Vahid. check it! (i even mention rebore in the first post. heh).

i still haven't heard anything about this :(

Konono No1 - "Tradi-Modern" - This shit is unreal

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 24 June 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I've gone back to that Konono No.1 page about a hundred times (after seeing it linked to here on another thread) hoping for some news.

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 24 June 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

one of my friends sent me the link to konono no 1 a couple (??) of years ago. they still haven't released it, huh?? i just assumed that a fuckup in the distribution chain was why i hadn't seen it.

more suggestions with strange whirrings, buzzings and tootlings please.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 24 June 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope they didn't get killed or something. Africa has been seething with conflicts lately. (I guess "lately" should be extended to the last several decades?)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 24 June 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't forget the two volumes of Sacred Flute Music from New Guinea available on Rounder. Pretty much sounds like Oval...

hexxyDancer, Thursday, 24 June 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for the suggestions people!! i still haven't tracked any down, but hey...

OK here's another one: scratchpetland's Solo Soli IIIII

actually parts of it sound like boards of canada and the other parts in many ways sound more like creature comforts but hey it's great and does the trick nicely.

They were great! I was really impressed. They were much better than Tree Hugger but maybe not as good as the long extended intro that Ass Baboons From Venus were doing... live sampled xylophone and DSP'd toms. I could have listened to that all night.

gygax0r: search "Music of a Timeless Earth" on Folkways (1980--modern composition type stuff from folks at the University of Texas-Austin.) Side B has two piecse by Catherine Schieve with lots of polyrhythmic chimes/bells/metallophones.) Other parts of the LP have flute drones, electronics and sometimes weird spoken word or chanting.

Here seems like a good place to plug DJ label mates Soft who sound more like ROVO than Reb0r3, but will make all you guys happy:

In year 2000, SOFT, turned on by Shimizu(me), Ukon, Pon 2, and Shinkichi, had our first long-going tour. Sab, Izu-pon, Kanda joined in spots here and there along the road. Together with Yang-bo's return from his journey, we became a huge crowd of 10 people.
The recording was at this giant studio by Lake Yamanaka, at the foot of the greatest Mountain of Japan, as the ten of us played all at "Ready, one, two", and then mixed by Moochy the Man.
This album has, in itself, the moments of looking-up-through-dry-winter-air-there-lies-Mt.Fuji.
Energy and groove of live. A ray of light in the dark. Going back and forth between this place and that... Lots of great tunes.

i should make nice with the half dozen exchange students i live down the hall from...

http://wiki.theppn.org/index.php/The_Boredoms

interesting stuff here!

Pavement's Mark Ibold told EDA about Boredoms. They met in Indonesia when EDA was bumming around the world. When EDA visited Mark in New York, Boredoms happened to be playing. He met Eye later at a techno party in Tokyo and the two became close friends. He was 36 years old at the time he joined, and completely bald. One of his previous gigs was playing with pop star Inoue Yosui. At one time they added a new studio member, 77, manager Junko's then-three-month-old baby daughter, and released a Japan-gig-only split 12" single with her titled "Eye Love Minga".

not to be a dick but I'm pretty sure that 12" is not a "Boredoms" release...

from reddit, EYE opening for Geordie Greep in Shibuya last night:

At this point a DJ(?) of sorts opened the gig with some of the craziest beats I’ve ever heard and it was loud! Really loud to the point I could feel the wind or whatever coming from the massive sound system. Strobe lights. It was pretty uncomfortable and I started to not feel very well and I felt like I was in a straight jacket. I felt like I was in a dream and the music was just pounding. I decided I needed to get out. So I turned around and was just trying to get to the back wall. I can only imagine the amount of people I pissed off. There was no room for anyone to go anywhere. Once I got to the back wall I noticed that my path was blocked off and I was going to have to backtrack. 🤬@&$&!?. Finally I saw where the exit was and continued to almost forcefully get my way out. Once I got near the door I was finally not claustrophobic and went out in the lobby to regroup. Ultimately came back to right inside the exit and watched part of the show that I came to see. It was a crazy experience.
