ok i am so disappointed that the bowtie isn't really a part of the actual cover

the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:03 (sixteen years ago)

'I Can Transform You' and 'Crawl' - why did dude pick songtitles that sounds (to me anyway) so misogynistic and 'lol i beat her up good'?

also lolololol at that cover, bowtie or no.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno, those are both pretty abstract connections, especially "Crawl." I mean, unless every song was titled something like "Fairy Princess" or "Pillows Are Soft" people are going to bend over backward to find some vaguely violent or insensitive connotations to them.

the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:15 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, but how fucking awesome would an album full of 'Fairy Princess' and 'Pillows Are Soft' type songs be?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

looking at that cover, we may yet find out

the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

51 sent (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

seriously tho' dude has a major 'rock and rule' visual thing goin' on there.
i really wish he'd just laid low through 2010 and gotten his shit in order. I feel like he's gonna run head on into a wall critically, sales-wise and artistically.

Had to check whether I was misremembering him rhyming 'habit' w/ 'Roger Rabbit' in "Get Like Me" but I guess his buddies are more Cool World.

swagless price (The Reverend), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

oh i thought you just meant it was WTF on aesthetic terms. i dunno, i hate dude and think about what he did every time his stupid song comes on the radio, but i just don't see a song titled "crawl" or him w/ a metal hand on a record cover and instantly come up with some weird mental association with him hitting rihanna like you guys.

the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 00:44 (sixteen years ago)

neither do i - though "i can transform ya" walked into it rather - but it's all rather unrepentantly aggressive

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 00:48 (sixteen years ago)

also i'm o_0 at how the expected laying-low period after an incident like this is no longer, like, 1-2 years, but...a few months.

his interview on 106 and park was deplorable; kept going on about how "it happened and i have to take responsibility for it" with no acknowledgment of what "it" was. "I know I am what the public makes me." Ugh. Just a bass-ackwards kid running in circles, unable to make any sense of what he's doing or come to terms with how to change.

because she looks awesome, like in the face (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 15 November 2009 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

yeah...at this point i kinda want him to keep giving these half-assed interviews full of unconsidered comments until he gets enough rope to slip up and say something really fucked up that people can't look past.

some dude, Sunday, 15 November 2009 22:00 (sixteen years ago)

Having him do roadside cleanup was a bad call; judge should've given him 2000 hours at a halfway home for victims of abuse. He really doesn't seem to understand what's happened except specifically in terms of how it affects him and his entourage. It's mystifying.

The Lex writes for the Guardian:

Rihanna's leadership on domestic abuse

Alba, Sunday, 22 November 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

loool, nice dig @ la roux!

plaxico (I know, right?), Sunday, 22 November 2009 17:42 (sixteen years ago)

rihanna in the guardian was real inspirational:

"A whole thing happened overnight this year," she says, "the night before the biggest performance of my career, as well as 10 days before I became 21. It was a turning point. It was the end of an incredible year, an incredible album [Good Girl Gone Bad], the beginning of a new era, and it just felt like it was a wake-up call for me, and it had to happen. As bad and as terrible as it was, there's so much great that came out of that situation." I must look surprised, but she continues. "Even for him [I assume she means Chris Brown], like, he knows now that he's never going to do that again. And now, young girls also, they learn from it, and I really hope young men can learn from it. Even more than the girls, the men really need to learn from it. Because everyone's focusing on the women, but the problem isn't the women."

Rihanna spoke about the attack recently in an interview on US TV, discussing the fact that Brown was "definitely my first big love", explaining that she briefly reconciled with him in the weeks after the assault, and then decided her actions were setting a bad example for young girls. "I realised that my selfish decision for love could result in some girl getting killed," she said. "I could not be easy with that part. I couldn't be held responsible for telling them, go back. Even if Chris never hit me again, who's to say that [their abusers] won't kill these girls?"
