the whole thing reeks of challoping for ilx's (one's peers: i.e., pretentious 20-some-year-olds reparazent!) favor. big fucking surprise. still, if it wasn't all so consistently obvious it may have been somewhat funnier (tho i sincerely doubt it).

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Sunday, 25 October 2009 10:57 (sixteen years ago)

3 doors down have def done worse.

Perhaps, but if you were subjected to rock radio for upwards of 8 hours a day any time between 2000 and 2003, you heard this song enough times to make you wish for deafness. Its ubiquity alone qualifies it for the list over any other 3DD song.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 25 October 2009 11:53 (sixteen years ago)

if you want to claim a song's ubiquity is exceptional, don't use the set up "if you were subjected to rock radio for upwards of 8 hours a day anytime between 2000 and 2003." Because, in that context, later years offer similarly ubiquitous - and worse - gold & platinum singles by three doors down.

da croupier, Sunday, 25 October 2009 13:03 (sixteen years ago)

lol wikipedia says "citizen soldier" went to #1 in australia, waht

da croupier, Sunday, 25 October 2009 13:06 (sixteen years ago)

what about that song that was playing in movie theaters for months trying to get you to join the army?

I'm here without you babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I think.

kshighway1, Sunday, 25 October 2009 17:44 (sixteen years ago)

and yeah, I think I heard "Kryptonite" about eight thousand fucking times when I was in, oh, seventh grade. whoever said that the band has worst songs though is completely correct. see above post.

kshighway1, Sunday, 25 October 2009 17:45 (sixteen years ago)

* worse

kshighway1, Sunday, 25 October 2009 17:46 (sixteen years ago)

Don't know where else to post this, but . . . Whiney was interviewed by the AV Club y'all:

http://www.avclub.com/newyork/articles/christopher-r-weingarten-talks-about-twitter-and-t,34154/

Sample:

AVC: What is your response to the internet commenters who didn’t like your speech at the 140 Characters Conference? Some of them thought you should “just get with the times.”

CW: This goes well beyond the music-criticism industry. This is every industry right now. Where there was once jobs for 100 people in the old way of doing things, now there’s a new way of doing things where only 10 people can do it. You’re either one of those 10 people or you get fucked. I’m worried that maybe one day we’re not going to be paying for musicians. Maybe one day we’re only going to have bedroom crybaby bullshit like Wavves. I’m terrified to think the future is just going to be Pitchfork reviewing MySpace pages, because there’s not going to be anyone left to put out records or review records. It’s just going to be a series of links and an advertisement.

kshighway1, Sunday, 25 October 2009 19:01 (sixteen years ago)

ha i feel bad for that wavves dude

i got nothin (deej), Sunday, 25 October 2009 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

Like, I think Asher Roth should get punched in the balls, but [his album's] first track’s got kind of a hot beat. He got like a 1.5.

kshighway1, Sunday, 25 October 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

zach hill is the drummer in wavves now

plax (I know, right?), Sunday, 25 October 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

Or if you were ever in a band that did covers and had to play the fucking thing.

a wicked 60s beat poop combo (Pancakes Hackman), Sunday, 25 October 2009 22:30 (sixteen years ago)

plax (I know, right?), Monday, 26 October 2009 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

he can probably lay down a solid beat and pour beer over the other guys head at the same time though

sonderangerbot, Monday, 26 October 2009 01:12 (sixteen years ago)

I wish I were in Wavves.

Nanobots: HOOSTEEND (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 26 October 2009 13:18 (sixteen years ago)

"also tell him that if he thinks taking down Basshunter and 3rd-tier Aaron Carter singles is "obvious" then I don't know what amazing musical world he's wrapped himself in"

Nanobots: HOOSTEEND (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 26 October 2009 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

tell him the feeling's mutual, Hoos.

can't wait for the "Hey Ya" and "Crazy" write-ups, btw.

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 13:25 (sixteen years ago)

i can't stand 3DD, Dan.

xps

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 13:30 (sixteen years ago)

Okay, really? You think making fun of James Blunt and brokeNCYDE is on par with making fun of Outkast and Gnarls Barkley?

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Monday, 26 October 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)

I mean, really?

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Monday, 26 October 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)

no. just mean to point out that it's mostly been a bit too obvious thus far. hopefully that will change as the countdown continues. cripes, man, let me deal with my feelings of disappointment in my own way, will ya?

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 13:53 (sixteen years ago)

uhhh really confused as to what you expected

call all destroyer, Monday, 26 October 2009 14:03 (sixteen years ago)

So horrible, terrible, awful songs shouldn't be obvious?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 26 October 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

challops are a couple threads over

bnw, Monday, 26 October 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)

xps

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 14:23 (sixteen years ago)

i'm certainly laughing

Nanobots: HOOSTEEND (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 26 October 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

Actually appearing at an event like that - being aware of it, standing in a room with those people - makes it difficult to view Whiney sympathetically, as a possible sky-is-falling peer. If you look at the history of music criticism, there is a reason it's so dramatically demarcated by generation, by eras of writers: it never paid a living wage. Shit or get off the pot.

cee-oh-tee-tee, Monday, 26 October 2009 14:40 (sixteen years ago)

whoa.

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 14:44 (sixteen years ago)

if it was like a list of 10 songs i could see being disappointed by an obvious entry here or there, but with 50 it'd be crazy to not have anything that's at least a little easy or on the nose

President Deez (some dude), Monday, 26 October 2009 14:44 (sixteen years ago)

i agree, actually. i'm just being a grumpy old man. (and the Moldy Peaches rule!)

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 14:57 (sixteen years ago)

...dammit!

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

so much resentment on this thread

Bobby Wo (max), Monday, 26 October 2009 15:26 (sixteen years ago)

I never in a million years would have guessed that The Moldy Peaches was an inclusion that would make someone mad! lol

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Monday, 26 October 2009 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

stranger things have happened imo. but yeah that is pretty lol-worthy, i agree.

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Monday, 26 October 2009 15:35 (sixteen years ago)

40!
