I think I might have a new obsession.

But it is pretty Lindstromy, you have to admit. Or rather, Lindstrom and this are exploring pretty similar ground - i.e. the strange hinterland between synth-prog and EDM.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 24 October 2009 19:05 (sixteen years ago)

Where the hell did my Vangelis CD go? Could have sworn I got one out this morning.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 24 October 2009 19:06 (sixteen years ago)

have you heard the Steve Moore albums?
I assume you have all the Zombi.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 October 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

I have all the Zombi, but don't know the Steve Moore.

However, at the moment I am too busy leaping up and down on my bed, striking courageous and adventurous poses while staring off into space and listening to Vangelis. It just has to be done sometimes.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 24 October 2009 19:39 (sixteen years ago)

well now you can listen to steve moore

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 October 2009 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

Thank you! I'll listen on Monday as it took me the better part of 5 hours to get that Majeure album. :-(

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 24 October 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

this amg reviewer http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:fbfoxzlkldse~T1 i doubt has actually played the album.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 October 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

Nah, I'm sure they listened to at least one or two songs. However, being totally unfamiliar with anything referenced within (Goblin, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, etc.) - they just went for the only vaguely proggy sounding reference they could think of.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 24 October 2009 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

..Which sound fuck all like Zombi..

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 October 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

OK, really loving the freebie track from that Majeure album...

undergrad lovers (electricsound), Sunday, 25 October 2009 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

Well, I'm listening to Henge right now. It seems a lot more PROOOGGGGG than the Majeure album so far. But I'm not out of the introduction yet.

Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Monday, 26 October 2009 12:48 (sixteen years ago)

well of course it's gonna be prog!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 26 October 2009 19:58 (sixteen years ago)

did you play the rest of it? and did you try Vaalbara?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 26 October 2009 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

lol u guys, this isn't electronic music or metal

it's fucking PROG

(I have no problem with this. album is rad so far.)

im on the moon btw (The Reverend), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 13:27 (sixteen years ago)

who said it was electronic/metal? (and who denied it was prog?)

max, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 13:31 (sixteen years ago)

the people who were selling me on this

im on the moon btw (The Reverend), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 13:32 (sixteen years ago)

(they didn't deny it being prog, I don't think prog was ever mentioned)

im on the moon btw (The Reverend), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 13:33 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

Paterra drums on and produced Gil Mantera's Party Dream's (now going as GMPD) most recent album, Dreamscape. I used to be really into Gil Mantera but I feared that their schtick would have gotten old. I guess they did too because it sounds just different enough to be pretty good.

I just got it today, hard to keep track of what those dudes are up to. On first blush I prefer this to the Henge.

MAJEURE "Timespan Remixes"

http://temporaryresidence.com/images/covers/trr185.jpg

Timespan Remixes is exactly what the title implies: The entire debut album by Majeure (aka A.E. Paterra of sci-fi rock luminaries Zombi), remixed by three of his friends and favorite producers. Zombi co-conspirator Steve Moore expands on the opening minutes of "Timespan" to give it an ominous John Carpenter dread. Jesu mastermind Justin K Broadrick transforms "Teleforce" into a 10-minute vertigo-inducing shoegaze epic. Renowned French producer Black Strobe closes out the album with a staggering 20-minute reinvention of "The Dresden Codex," a white-hot house banger that scorches straight away before disintegrating into an ambient heap of sci-fi ash. Includes a download coupon for free MP3 versions of the album.

THIS VINYL-ONLY RELEASE IS STRICTLY LIMITED TO 500 COPIES.

TRACK LISTING
1. Timespan (Steve Moore Remix)
2. Teleforce (Justin K Broadrick Remix)
3. The Dresden Codex (Black Strobe Remix)

I'm a bit excited to hear these. And I haven't heard anything from Black Strobe for a few years.

van smack, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 29 July 2010 02:10 (fifteen years ago)

dresden codex is a facemelter already, interested to hear this

fistal rectitude (electricsound), Thursday, 29 July 2010 02:12 (fifteen years ago)

I couldnt wait for this and bagged the last copy at Juno.

It's great.

Timespan is the sound of Snake Pliskin gliding into new york.

Teleforce has that de-tuned shoegaze/MBV drone

I listened to the Dresden codex yesterday whilst napping. it's a dark monster.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Black Strobe mix after hearing that once Smagghe had left they (he) had gone downhill fast.

Will look out for the original album.

but f**k this 500 copies shit...

my opinionation (Hamildan), Thursday, 29 July 2010 08:09 (fifteen years ago)

man i like zombi, but more as a reference point than as a thing. like, i'm gonna enjoy moroder or carpenter or goblin more. hell, i enjoy the early black devil disco club stuff a LOT more. and half the crap what comes out on italians do it better. not that i don't enhoy sombi, but...

plus when you factor in the obscurantist collector-bait bullshit...

Whatever. "Night Rhythms" off Surface to Air is as good as anything you could say they're ripping off.

even with the vinyl releases, I usually dub it to .mp3 and file away the record forevermore.
