they should've released "throw money" w/ sean garrett off of 'guccimerica' as the lead single if they were gonna go for a crossover r&b joint. much more aligned with the style that cultivated his fanbase & it doesn't suck

beat is super great -- actually i think if you wanted the ultimate gucci track you'd combine the music/hooks from that one, the structure/thematic consistency of 'follow me' & the lyrical fun of 'diamonds' right before it ... those three songs kinda capture the best of 3 sides of his appeal

another thing about that harvilla article -- he describes gucci's delivery as a 'snarl' which is so totally wrong -- gucci's emotions tend to be super-restrained, his default deliver style is a kind of detached jokiness which is part of why this stuff is so fun, hes not angry or 'snarling' at all, hes too cool for that kind of shit

the best description of gucci's voice i've read was when jordan said he was like a komodo dragon. a lot of the time he sounds like a drunk old man (in a good way)

for some reason i am really unexcited about the actual album.

yeah me too tbh - for me it's cuz it feels kind of unnecessary, like he's dropping an album in about a month but he just put out like 2 albums worth of music in the last 3 weeks. when wayne dropped c3 he hadn't really put anything out for a while so it felt like a good build up of anticipation, plus he had two massive singles so it felt like this huge cultural event. "wasted" has a lot of momentum in that regard but it's kinda old & "spotlight" is garbage. i'm waiting for the tracklist to totally gauge my excitement for the album.

altho at that point i don't even know what i want from the tracklist. if it's a bunch of zaytoven & drumma boy productions it will feel like a mixtape being sold in best buy. otoh i don't want a whole album full of storch beats. who knows.

i'm hulla excited for this album. as much as i love a good gucci tape, "back to the traphouse" is still my favourite release of his. sure "spotlight" might not be the best of signs, but hit or miss it's important to do something bigger on an album and i get the feeling that's what's coming.

Timbaland got pushed up to the big Thanksgiving week w/ Rihanna etc, there's no way Game is outselling Gucci when a single with Gucci is his big last ditch effort to get a radio single, and I don't think Thicke or Redman will keep that date

i just don't like the dark muddy vibe of the beat, awkward chorus that feels almost out of sync with it, bad fit for gucci even if i like some parts of his verse, wayne's annoying, even the pairing itself seems kind of pointless with something as good as "we be steady mobbin" already out there

"we be steady mobbin" is really good - i dismissed it at first because it sounds so cut & paste, what with the chorus just being old wayne lines, and wayne nowadays isn't always tolerable, the "man cum" but it's def one of the best gucci verses of the year, just for "east atlanta cockin hammers, bandanas on car antennas" alone
