new OoioO record KILA KILA KILA out this week [warning: m0mus picture if you scroll down], record release party in kyoto this saturday...

it's their first record in 3 years, they're pared down to a trio now, they changed their name to "the OoioO"... more later.

That picture of Yoshimi looks way better than she actually looks. What label is this on? Domestic release? Oh yeah, more later.

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i dunno d., that looks just like yoshimi to me.

KILA KILA KILA is on nigo's label (ape sounds). he's put out the vinyl for ooioo before but this will be the first time he's putting out the CDs too.

domestic release: how about never, does never work for you?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

If someone can point me in the direction of a good album produced by any Japanese artist in the world, ever, in the history of mankind I would be very grateful. I can't quite believe that a nation of the size of Japan can ONLY produce incontinent, incoherent and self-indulgent plagiarists and obcurantists?!?!????

Is OOIOO dance party safe?

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Is OOIOO dance party safe?

If you like to party out of bounds.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I think of it as Dance Party USA but in Japanese.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Kila Kila Kila good or what?

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't heard it yet! I want to but I am stuck at work dleone, you gotta get me out of here.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I haven't heard it either. But good news, they're getting rid of all of us in October, so I won't have work to worry about then.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
two reviews of kila kila kila:

"the new ooioo record is like Sun Ra meets Serge Gainsbourge A nite remember a day forgotten shooting out into space on a breath, a pregnant pause and then a skidding lift where you land no one knows... "
-Kim Gordon

"In a perfect world, Roger Dean would be banging on yoshimi's door, begging to do thier covers, their stage set, their shoes. I can't quite place why OOIOO make me think of Yes, especially as i like OOIOO a lot more. but i guess it's because OOIOO fufill what i always hoped Yes would do for me, elegantly articulate endless planes of otherness. i don't know what that means, but i hoped for it! OOIOO's new albums sounds even more assured than their previous records, and sounds more intimate, up front and cozy, right in your front room. so before they arrive, clean up, put away your laundry, and was the dishes, they need as much space as you can give them."
-Jim O'Rourke.

Sun Ra doesn't need to meet anyone else in order to be interesting.

Al Andalous, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

deep.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

JasonD (JasonD), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

still no domestic release of the epic masterwork gold and green

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I got this record shortly after my post from the summer. Can't say I thought it was that interesting. I probably should listen to it again; haven't heard it since listening a couple of times after I bought it.

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a good suggestion, treat the first 2 songs as bonus tracks.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

also: Spring Tour of USA for OoioO

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. And what is it with them and the UK?? I mean, come on, at least come to NYC or something.

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

this is awesome news!

marcg (marcg), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

udu wudu (udu wudu), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I wish I had never seen this.

dean! (deangulberry), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

HI GUYS! Do you know anything about Eye coming to NYC for something to do with John Zorn's birthday?

Also, Damo Suzuki is playing with Yammato in Japan :(

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Eye performed with Zorn in a duo show right around the time of the Zorn 50th birthday shows at Tonic last year. Zorn told me he recorded something for him as well for possible release on Tzadik.

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

ahhh wicked!

prima fassy (bob), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

why do they hate us so?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still mad about that. I hate everyone who has the ability to go to that show.

dean! (deangulberry), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yea, what have the Brits done recently to contribute awesome music to the world? NOTHING.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

let's kick england's ass!!!

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

JON: DON'T MAKE BLANKET STATEMENTS. IT IS BAD FORM.

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

NO, REALLY ENGLAND SUX

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

They don't deserve that show.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

MAYBE COLDPLAY CAN OPEN FOR THE BOREDOMS HAHAHA

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(recent-ish) British stuff that is good: Skullflower/Sunroof!, Vibracathedral Orchestra&offshoots.. probably more. Ned would know.

IAN J0HNSOPNNN, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I know a few things, and you've definitely named some of the best -- let us not forget the wonderful Wickham-Smith/Youngs axis.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Guapo might appeal to fans of Boredoms, and also happen to include ILM's udu wudu as a member (I think).

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

no shit?

(guapo's "great sage" is insane and brilliant. "five suns" is like the second coming of magma.)

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 6 February 2004 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Torturing yourself isn't going to help.

dleone (dleone), Friday, 6 February 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)
