I like this kid a lot when he does upbeat pop; his ballads tend to be kind of unlistenable.

was just listening to "with you" and admiring his restraint as a singer. he's totally confident with his voice, and really knows how to lay back. ("with you" pretty much rips off its acoustic-guitar groove from "irreplaceable," but i don't mind.)

well his restraint might be a factor of lack of technique, i don't know. but i prefer undersinging to oversinging.

(there are parts of that song where he loses the melody, but i'm not sure if that's his fault or the song's.)

what i mean is, if you listen to a song like "no air", he's completely blown out of the water by jordin sparks in terms of straight singing, but i think brown makes the song. he knows how to fuck around with his voice (like a natural over-autotune or something) and he really knows his place in terms of restraint (which you brought up, otm to you). way more skilled than a lot of ppl give him credit for i think
