bands/albums you listen to alone in your flat with a cup of coffee on a chilly, overcast morning

I know, I know. Eye rolls, etc. But Ned made me think of this when he brought up Chameleons this morning. Perfect band for this sort of day. Joy Division and overtly goth bands seem a tad too dark for what I have in mind.

What other bands and/or albums are essential under such circumstances?

Felt's "Cleansing the Antiseptic Beauty" and "Splendor of Fear" come to mind.

"Faith" and "Seventeen Seconds" also fit, but not "Pornography".

Anyone?

(No emo! We're talking about quiet and contemplative, not whining and moaning....)

(Although I gues maybe Black Heart Procession would almost pass...)

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 06:06 (twenty years ago)

Yeah nice weather, huh? We don't get enough of this down here (though March sure is trying to make up for a sunny January).

Going a little heavier now that we're into the evening- I'm on The Great Annihilator for the first time in a few years. "She Lives!" sounding perfect for a rainy night.

So does this thread mean I'm off your troll list, Ned?

Are there any shoegazer-type records (as of yet unmentioned) that fit here?

Most of the albums that come to mind have a little too much SOUND to work in this frame.

Loveless, Whirlpool, Souvlaki just a little too noisy.

Pale Saints, maybe?

Giles Manius (jsoulja), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 18:42 (twenty years ago)
