Britney is lovely.
I don't want to hear from Chris Martin, Stereophonics, most yank rawk and esp. the Red Hot Chillis, Keane or Travis but that is wishful thinking.

This sentence is so wrong on so many levels. The idea of anyone taking cues from Ashanti makes my skin crawl (also JoJo is about 500,000,000,000 times more talented than Ashanti).

if those four acts could drop off the face of the planet (preferably in a way which causes pain to them) (and without posthumous reissues thankyou v much Mr Libertines Record Company) then that alone would make 2005 a great year.

As far as the original question: the entire Victory Records roster. Watching Beavis and Butt-head on MTV2 often times means enduring promo spots for this mewling emo debris, and this is why the White Stripes had to happen, people.

I would like to suggest two fallen idols of mine who I don't even want to name, let's just say they both have been known to do ballets and other non-rock projects and one fired his viola player, the other his bass player.

I never got the impression that they had a badass image at all, let alone a contrived one. They smile and laugh too much on stage and look far too normal to be badass.
I just thought it would be a good beatdown is all. I wanted to make my Wilco hate more interesting for all the people who are so bored by it.

Omigod, omigod, omigid, I've been called to a thread! First, I'd like to say this is fucking brilliant and then I'd like thank my manager and my producer and my Kabbalist.... oh, wait.
Um, like, I never thought I'd ever say this, but Snorah actually said something that indicates that maybe just maybe she isn't the complete dullass dunderhead label flunky to I thought she was. Here, let me quote from a listserv email I just received:
Over the holidays, Martha [Wainwright] appeared in two top ten lists, mentioned as one of the most memorable moments of 2004, was seen by millions in "The Aviator", and was a face to watch. It also looks like Rufus and Norah Jones are getting their two cents in about BMFA.
In the January edition of Mojo, both Norah Jones and Rufus Wainwright list Martha among the "best things they heard all year" and the BMFA EP cover is pictured. Both of them speak about why it ranks best for them:
Norah: "Martha Wainwright has been someone I've known of for a while, but never really really listened to 'til recently. Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole is amazing. The title track is my favourite song on there. I think she's one of my favorite singers. Very passionate. You can really hear the emotion in her voice. She's also a great songwriter."
So, this seems to prove that at least Snorah knows good music when she hears it, and --said in my best Bevis and Butthead voice -- "Huh-huh Snorah said fuck and ass, huh-huh."

― Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 6 January 2005 06:13 (nineteen years ago) link
I think that sums her up pretty well; I saw her open for John Mayer. She's the textbook example of someone who got pushed onto the scene way before she was ready. Can't you just hear the guys at Blue Note going, "Wow, that Eva Cassidy chick sure is shifting units. Too bad she's dead. Let's go find somebody toiling away in a Williamsburg Cafe and blow her up into the next big thing." Then when the research team did the background check and found out she was the Bhagwan Rasneesh Snizzleshit's illegitimate daughter, they had their rockist media hook which they peddled to the likes of Robert Hilburn wholesale and it was off to the chart races. Once they had enlisted the New York Sunday Times Magazine as their flack machine and struck marketing deals with amazon.com and Starbucks, the rest was a grass-roots, word-of-mouth, straight-from-left-field sales miracle.
She really is the diva for the Bush2 administration….
― mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Thursday, 6 January 2005 08:18 (nineteen years ago) link
Yeah, that seems like an understatement -- I get the impression that she never really expected to be "ready". Maybe I don't know the whole story (rogue jazz exec?) but I wonder whether Blue Note themselves ever expected a huge success like this.

Bit of a stretch for this thread, but I suppose she's an 'artist'.She's been in a film.
