Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world She took the midnight train goin' anywhere Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
A singer in a smokey room A smell of wine and cheap perfume For a smile they can share the night It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard Their shadows searching in the night Streetlights people, living just to find emotion Hiding, somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill, everybody wants a thrill Payin' anything to roll the dice, just one more time Some will win, some will lose Some were born to sing the blues Oh, the movie never ends It goes on and on and on and on
(chorus)
Don't stop believin' Hold on to the feelin' Streetlight people

*deep breath*
OK, I'm being forced to see these guys - and these guys alone (we're parachuting in and out) - at Sonisphere tomorrow. I have never knowingly heard a note of their music and by christ I'm not exactly looking forward to doing so having read this thread.
I'm staring at their Spotify page and it scares me. Where do I start? Do I have a chance of appreciating them on any level if my "standard" taste leans towards Pulp, Cornelius, The Cure, Belle & Sebastian and The Flaming Lips?
God I'm such an indie cliche...
― Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Friday, 31 July 2009 09:42 (sixteen years ago)
They are like the emo version of Rush. If you like emo music and/or Rush, then you may have a chance at liking it.
― I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 31 July 2009 14:02 (sixteen years ago)
The voice is the biggest stumbling block, to be sure. If you can get past that, or find some way to ignore it, I think they do have some pretty interesting instrumental compositions. Just don't try to follow the lyrics or try to work out any narrative, you'll just drive yourself effing crazy.
― 3 mods 1 banhammer (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 31 July 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)
i think they toured with the Cure a few years ago.
― akm, Friday, 31 July 2009 14:55 (sixteen years ago)
based on the few songs i heard when this band was getting big, the voice was the only worthwhile part imo

― princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 15:45 (seven years ago)
sigh, I want to love this but the ludicrous length + lack of variation are brutal to me, idk why I'm surprised cause it's their whole thing much of the time but it still bugs me. once I figure out a ten-track edit I'll probably love it.

i haven’t been able to stop listening to coheed this week. really strong discog, only one album i don’t really rate and it’s the antiprog/anticoncept one (color before the sun) and even then it has an amazing song called “island”
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 July 2022 10:19 (three years ago)
i decided that “ten speed” is their very best song though. it even helps that it’s about a sentient bicycle demon
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 July 2022 11:04 (three years ago)
This is much better than Vaxis I. I absolutely love the last three songs, especially the last one where they really lean into the prog theatricality.
― a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 July 2022 20:58 (three years ago)

but I like the ridiculous bombastic stuff

― a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 July 2022 21:15 (three years ago)
the album that wasn’t conceptual is their weakest easy, i wish it weren’t the case. vaxis i is bloated but also so packed with great songs it’s hard to complain. and vaxis ii corrects for the bloatedness

aw this makes me smile so much. this is one of the catchiest tunes they've done in years. also liked "Blind Side Sonny".
saw them open for Incubus a few months ago, but was there for them, not Incubus. it was one of the best performances I've seen them do - no surprises song-wise as an opener, but everything hit so hard. really appreciated it, made me feel like I was in my 20s again.
this album's gonna rule
