My gf's little brother was really into these guys a few years ago and played a few tracks for me. I couldn't think of one single polite thing to say to him about their music.

C&C was great! Second Stage Turbine Blade and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 are both kickass albums. I kinda fell off with their new stuff, but those two are great.

OK, I'm being forced to see these guys - and these guys alone (we're parachuting in and out) - at Sonisphere tomorrow. I have never knowingly heard a note of their music and by christ I'm not exactly looking forward to doing so having read this thread.

I'm staring at their Spotify page and it scares me. Where do I start? Do I have a chance of appreciating them on any level if my "standard" taste leans towards Pulp, Cornelius, The Cure, Belle & Sebastian and The Flaming Lips?

They are like the emo version of Rush. If you like emo music and/or Rush, then you may have a chance at liking it.

The voice is the biggest stumbling block, to be sure. If you can get past that, or find some way to ignore it, I think they do have some pretty interesting instrumental compositions. Just don't try to follow the lyrics or try to work out any narrative, you'll just drive yourself effing crazy.

i think they toured with the Cure a few years ago.

based on the few songs i heard when this band was getting big, the voice was the only worthwhile part imo

i haven’t been able to stop listening to coheed this week. really strong discog, only one album i don’t really rate and it’s the antiprog/anticoncept one (color before the sun) and even then it has an amazing song called “island”

i decided that “ten speed” is their very best song though. it even helps that it’s about a sentient bicycle demon

This is much better than Vaxis I. I absolutely love the last three songs, especially the last one where they really lean into the prog theatricality.

i'm gonna have to spin this eventually. think I stopped at the album that wasn't conceptual, cos I didn't like it.

josh eppard did a drumeo session and it is soooo good. the angle of his ride cymbal will always baffle me (i'm guessing it gives it a really choked sound/short attack and he likes it that way) but can't argue with the results

aw this makes me smile so much. this is one of the catchiest tunes they've done in years. also liked "Blind Side Sonny".

saw them open for Incubus a few months ago, but was there for them, not Incubus. it was one of the best performances I've seen them do - no surprises song-wise as an opener, but everything hit so hard. really appreciated it, made me feel like I was in my 20s again.
