Julio: Linda only has the one album, as far as i'm aware.

That album by Gary Higgins, "Red Hash", mentioned on another thread recently is also worth checking out, especially for fans of Perhacs.

Yeah, ideally you should get both; Pomerance is more in the Patty Waters lineage, Perhacs more psych-folky, but both albums are tremendous.

Also if you haven't got it you should pick up a copy of Buffy Sainte-Marie's Illuminations (currently on offer at HMV for £6.99) from 1969 which really is electroacoustically out there, almost on a par with The Marble Index. Stevie Nicks and Kristin Hersh both start here...

Only heard the Perhacs but let me add to the praise, it's extremely good. There have been two CD issues; get the newer one, as it's from a better source and includes bonus tracks courtesy of Perhacs herself.

I prefer the Perhacs. I would say the Pomerance is folk, whereas the Waters is basically a jazz vocal record.

I'd like to give a shout-out to Ruthann Friedman and her album "Constant Companion". Great hippy-folk.(yes, the very same Ruthann Friedman who wrote "Windy" when she was a teen.) Favorite line:

Perry Leopold's "Experiment in Metaphysics" is great too. And I'd like to thank him for making it cuz the copy i bought at the salvation army for a dollar enabled me to trade it for 700+ dollars worth of psych/krautrock that i needed.

I'd recommend Judee Sill's two albums that have just been re-released on Rhino with extra tracks and all, it's great stuff.

Pomerance is more proto-Patti Smith, was she not? I haven't heard it in ages, but remember digging it. must find a copy of "Red Hash," especially if it's touted as better than David Crosby's first solo alb. Scott?
on a somewhat similar thread, I picked up the Folk Rock and Faithfull Dream Babes vol. 5 comp just for the early Nico side "I'm Not Saying" and two Vashti tracks. Heavenly just for those three, but it's all pretty fun though.

That Gary Higgins Red Hash L.P. is wonderful. a swoony dream. I don't know who has reissued it. I was kinda kidding about comparing it to the Crosby though. They are both wonderful. I actually just finished writing a piece where i poke fun at the collectorscum (i am one-don't sue) cliche of saying something like, "Oh, yeah, that Crosby album is okaaaay, but have you ever heard...?" It's my favorite trick! And in my piece, i use Perry Leopold as an example! What gets me about that first Perry Leopold record, and what sounds so heartbreaking, is it really does sound like some kid from the sticks who hits the big city (philadelphia, in this case) to become the next Phil Ochs or whoever, and who does way too many bad drugs and it all just goes to hell for him. I heard he used to just hand his records out on the street in philly to anybody passing by. He's probably a lawyer now, who knows? i think he even has a website or did, but i have never checked it.

But, yeah, Red Hash all the way. You won't be dissapointed.

after downloading, i can vouch that Red Hash is indeed wonderful.

I don't get yr Perry Leopold fascination tho, scott - i mean, it's actually a little too straight / way too 'cosmic' for me at points. For cracked 'where are they now?' loners, i much prefer Vulcan, Mark Tucker, or Bob whatsisname - you know, the guy who did Juppiter Transmissions...

I dug that first Electric Company album. that was some wild stuff. Have you guys heard that Old Bombs record? That's my fave right now. I actually wrote a review today for that, but chuck already had one coming so that's ten minutes i'll never get back. maybe i should post it here.

So Roger, from what you are saying about Siamese Dream it makes me think that there is an instrumental version out there somewhere that i should here? Cuz that's the only way you'll get me to hear the whole thing. and you are wrong about the weirdo psych thing. Heck, even this new ghost album beats corgan by a mile. on his best day. with ghost bound and gagged like hentai vixens.

It wasn't THAT amazing. Major Stars, Charalambides, Bardo Pond, Moe Tucker, and Crome Syrcus were all far better / more entertaining than Ghost. Personally, my favorite were the hot dogs sold outside.

At the risk of irritating you further, it's very good so far. It's not a sequel to Parallelograms, rather a complementary work after all these years. Just enough subtle hints of things that wouldn't have been around in 1970.

just heard her new stuff, think it's pretty beautiful. i totally forgot who this woman was and i didn't pick up any ... grandmotherly tones to it. thought it sounded like a new take on those old obscuro psych songs from the late 60s/early 70s ... like Saffron, etc.
