If I recall correctly, their contributions were separate...but work well together.
By the way, I agree with those who mentioned John Carpenter's Escape From New York soundtrack (it ownz, indeed), but it WASN'T part of the equation.

(Didn't someone just reissue this? I need a real copy.)
I love Tangerine Dream's score for Thief, despite some of the ugly guitars.

POLL
― El Tomboto, Sunday, 4 November 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)
The Assault on Precinct 13 soundtrack is yum. It sounds so much like Tri Repetae++
?!? can this realy be true i think not.
― ledge, Sunday, 4 November 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)
Didn't TG score Risky Business, too? I remember some wierdly out of place arty synth stuff when I saw that movie on tv recently.
My first thought was TG=Throbbing Gristle and I was like OH GOD YES.
― Rock Hardy, Sunday, 4 November 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)
I can hear Genesis now.
"Olllld TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME! Rock. AND ROLLL!"
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 4 November 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)
"weirdly out of place"
― Rock Hardy, Sunday, 4 November 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)
Risky Business is quite odd for a mainstream Hollywood movie, the Tangerine Dream soundtrack merely emphasizes it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Assault on Precinct 13 soundtrack (at least the stuff you hear during the actual movie) consist mostly of a few long, drony synth melodies? It's sounds quite good, but not like Autechre to me.
― Tuomas, Monday, 5 November 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)
Slsk the 'Esper' Version of the Blade Runner soundtrack - I can say from seeing 'The Final Director's Cut' this weekend - that is the apple pie soundtrack version that roolz.
― BlackIronPrison, Monday, 5 November 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)
I love the Risky Business soundtrack!
Don't understand the question though. Blade Runner owns everything, can't seem to recall anything great about Dune at all. Will watch it tomorrow.
― sonderangerbot, Monday, 5 November 2007 01:45 (eighteen years ago)
god 'wait for me' on the blade runner soundtrack is such a fuckin' jam
― Homegrown Georgia speedster Ladd McConkey (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 11:38 (six years ago)
blade runner is the best soundtrack ever
― Bstep, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 11:41 (six years ago)
it's good, and i like it
― Homegrown Georgia speedster Ladd McConkey (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 11:50 (six years ago)
"love theme" from blade runner is my jam
i cant even remember the Dune soundtrack
― Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 12:13 (six years ago)
everyone knows there is a 4 disc of the Esper version now, right?
― an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 12:13 (six years ago)
i am attempting to, er, acquire it as we speak but not enough seeders :(
― Homegrown Georgia speedster Ladd McConkey (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 12:16 (six years ago)
Blade Runner is good, but it's not even the best Vangelis soundtrack, let alone best in general.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 13:13 (six years ago)
I don't know if I'd say they're better than Blade Runner, but Opera Sauvage and 1492 are at least as good
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 15:03 (six years ago)
Opera sauvage is the best, yeah. Antarctica is also there among his best soundtrack work, the main theme especially is the most gorgeous thing he's written. But obviously the best soundtrack of all time is Geinoh Yamashirogumi's, for Akira.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 15:41 (six years ago)
I'd have L'apocalypse des animaux as my favourite of his soundtrack works.
― Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 16:26 (six years ago)
Création du monde may be the best track he ever recorded
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 16:43 (six years ago)
Aye, hard to disagree. Kinda partial to The Dragon as well.
― Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 16:49 (six years ago)
The album or the song from China?
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 16:53 (six years ago)
The epic banger of a title track off The Dragon. It's kinda kitschy but I love it.
― Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 17:02 (six years ago)
y'all skip over 'one more kiss, dear', right?
But obviously the best soundtrack of all time is Geinoh Yamashirogumi's, for Akira.

I enjoy 'One More Kiss, Dear' in the spirit in which I think it's intended, a technical exercise in pastiche.
― Diddums Is a Ranter (Vast Halo), Wednesday, 12 February 2020 19:45 (six years ago)

― romanesque architect (pomenitul), Wednesday, 12 February 2020 20:06 (six years ago)
I have it on now and it's beautiful.
Side thing: did David Dundas nick the main melody from Le singe bleu for the Withnail and I theme?
― Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Thursday, 13 February 2020 09:26 (six years ago)
There was a TV theme song poll, I don't remember a soundtrack poll? Might be fun?

― massaman gai (front tea for two), Tuesday, 18 February 2020 14:33 (six years ago)
It's from Heaven and Hell, don't remember if that bit is in Part I or Part II. I can check it once I get home.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 14:47 (six years ago)
Ok, I checked it, that bit starts playing in Heaven and Hell Part II around 3:15. It's always been one of my favourite parts of that album.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 14:52 (six years ago)
What? Never! The segue from One More Kiss, Dear to Blade Runner Blues on the soundtrack is amazing.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 18 February 2020 15:13 (six years ago)
thanks, Tuomas! not sure how i missed that.
― massaman gai (front tea for two), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 06:46 (six years ago)
Dan WorsleyPosted: February 12, 2020 at 3:03:42 PMHave we ever had a soundtracks poll?No but we were just talking about doing one in the thread for the latest decade by decade classical music poll, after I was bugging Pom to include Herrmann, Waxman and Rozsa in the 40s one.
― valet doberman (Jon not Jon), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 17:44 (six years ago)
To quote myself from the separate Dune on ILE:
Did I write a piece for the latest issue of The Wire? I did:
https://www.thewire.co.uk/issues/486
Did I discuss Dune? Indeed I did.
Did I become likely the first person in the history of the magazine to seriously discuss the work of Toto as a result? Probably!
