Argentina without Messi are very messy

StanM, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:41 (nine years ago) link

blimey, if an england player did that (and they were still in the tournament) Neil Ashton et al would be calling for him to be sent home.

xp

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:42 (nine years ago) link

with all the 'messi decides they will play 433' etc Argentina maybe in a Domenech 2006 situation.

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:44 (nine years ago) link

It's just not Di Maria's day, is it?

StanM, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:44 (nine years ago) link

xp David Busst is the epl-era gold standard for terrible injuries iirc, but I've never dared look it up

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:45 (nine years ago) link

Busst was a bad one. Larsson and Cisse both had horribly snapped legs. There have been fatalities on the pitch - Celtic keeper John Thomson died after taking a knee to the head in the 30s.

Maurice Malpas Holiday Jotter Blues (onimo), Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:50 (nine years ago) link

Charlton dude scored btw. LJ will be pleased.

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:52 (nine years ago) link

Eduardo's ankle snap was, while not quite Busst levels of squeam, was a bit icky.

ailsa, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:54 (nine years ago) link

it was was

ailsa, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:54 (nine years ago) link

Ruben Roja tackle cf that thread I posted above

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Wednesday, 25 June 2014 17:56 (nine years ago) link

Goalie was sick at the Bust one iirc. There's also a picture of the groundsman pouring water on where the incident was and it bouncing up red.

Liverpool's Shaqiri bringing it

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

So the Honduras shirt I'm wearing (£25 from Sports Direct!) may not actually be lucky, then.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

Shaqiri does appear to have turned up for this one, which is unfortunate.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:17 (nine years ago) link

sakho with a nice elbow earlier. Are there any LFC players left in the tournament to assault someone?

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:22 (nine years ago) link

Maybe Kuyt can decapitate someone for old times sake.

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:23 (nine years ago) link

Mignolet might get a game tomorrow

wait has this happened

gbx, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:24 (nine years ago) link

not yet sadly, and his price is rising

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:25 (nine years ago) link

i think i said as much upthread but i'm thinking that suarez to barca for sanchez and a bag of money is looking like a better deal every day

gbx, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:27 (nine years ago) link

Figueroa with a flying, De Jong-esque challenge on his own team-mate, there. It is very much looking like this may not happen for Honduras.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:28 (nine years ago) link

they'll tackle ANYTHING

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:29 (nine years ago) link

yes put something with holes in it on your head that'll stop the blood

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:30 (nine years ago) link

Oh dear.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:30 (nine years ago) link

shaqiri AGAIN rah rah

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:31 (nine years ago) link

how many more goals do switzerland need if ecu win by one?

A lot of Liverpool fans have been saying that. I say keep the crazy, brilliant bastard.

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:32 (nine years ago) link

i'm watching the other game but that first Shaqiri goal was fucking A+

nostormo, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:33 (nine years ago) link

The mini-table in the corner said they're level on goal difference now, so Switzerland would need one more if Ecuador scored. Switz have scored more goals, and won the head-to-head too.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:35 (nine years ago) link

xp yeah I linked that upthread but it's quite a read

ogmor, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

Sorry ogmor, never saw it. The conspiracy stuff - considering the defence to FIFA seems to be it's a conspiracy against him - is fascinating.

Daniwa, guys! Daniwa! (aldo), Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:38 (nine years ago) link

thx WBS

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:39 (nine years ago) link

why do they have a drinks break so close to half-time?

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:40 (nine years ago) link

xp aldo - it's just fun, ringing around, meeting the wall of silence, the various characters he meets, plus all the stuff about suarez's wife, it almost reads like a roberto bolano story

ogmor, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:42 (nine years ago) link

ecuador's exit would be the harshest so far, they've looked decent every game

ogmor, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:45 (nine years ago) link

controversial from pnev, benzema not quite at the level of messi/ronaldo

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:46 (nine years ago) link

Aw these poor lads in the BBC3 studio, a big screen behind them where Copacabana should be

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:49 (nine years ago) link

xp - would also end Enner Valencia's fairytale run to the Golden Boot.

Switzerland in charge at half-time. Wouldn't say it's comfortable, because I don't think anyone would really be comfortable against Honduras as such, but it's difficult to see a way that Switzerland don't win this.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:49 (nine years ago) link

enner valencia he so high

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:50 (nine years ago) link

Scratch that, they were asked for best goals and just listed every long-range effort

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:50 (nine years ago) link

drmic/shaqiri link up has been good

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:50 (nine years ago) link

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 20:53 (nine years ago) link
