Ha, it's true. I just wasn't around to make the obligatory "TOO LOW" posting when it came up, felt the need to express some sorrow that it wasn't recognised as the rightful number one.

i played Spelunky and it felt like a pointlessly nerded out version of Boulderdash or something, i just don't feel the magic. still playable in short attention-span bursts tho.

i'm not even moaning as such, i don't have much interest in what consoles are offering at the moment. more an observation that a lot of people who i assume have been gaming since they were kids obviously feel the same way.

spelunky = platform nethack

nethack feels a hundred times more surprising/absorbing

maybe i haven't spelunked enough but that's the game's fault imo

tbf forks the reason epic mickey 2 is missing is because it appears to be unplayable complete horeshit

make yourself play it for longer than 10 minutes. i wasn't the biggest fan after 2 minutes but like most roguelikes, it gets really addicting quickly.

yeah, def play it long enough where you start getting proficient at the mechanics. i also hated it in the very beginning (i think i complained about it on another thread actually!) but it quickly got very addictive and the longer i played the more fun i had playing it

Spent way too much time on Letterpress last weekend. Really like it when the strategic demands of the board prompt you to find more obscure words. Dislike the way it can devolve into ~INGS ~ED ~ERS repetitiousness. I like it better when the board is mostly less common letters and combinations. Going out with GAUZY (unplayed U, Z, Y) to win 13-12 was my favorite moment so far.

I've only been playing random people, but hardly any of them grasp the basic strategy of controlling valuable tiles. I've been cancelling any game where I'm given first turn and only playing as the challenger, which is considerably harder especially if they start with a corner locked down. It'd be interesting to play a few games in a row against someone who knows what they're doing to see if the game design holds up.
