Hey all; it's start of the year, so here we go again! Six of these things! I'll be damned!

I'm posting this in ILE rather than ILG for maximum exposure but the final results will live at the latter.

For 2011's Coint and Plick we had forty voters; this time I'd love to aim for fifty! I'd like to encourage folks who even just played one or a very few games this year put in a ballot with us. We like casual gamers as much as the next guy and we'll happily take lurkers or off site readers too! Everybody is welcome. I’m not gonna bang the drum so loudly for this thing this year so anyone who feels like cross-pollinating to other threads or boards is welcome to do so with my blessing.

in Pazz and Jop style vote/point format: You'll have 100 points to divide among your Top 10 games released in 2010, with each entry receiving no more than 30 points and no less than 5 points (seriously, for my sanity I need you to keep it to a MINIMUM of five points). If you'd rather not rank individually, just assign 10 points per game.

Additionally, please include the biggest gaming disappointment for you this year. This can mean a game that didn't live up to your expectations, flat out sucked or didn’t quite get it right, a Kickstarter that annoyed you, a state of the industry thing... whatever "biggest disappointment" means to you. I’d also like to hear your favorite gaming moment this year: rediscovering a remake of an old favorite, seeing your child get into iOS gaming or a specific kill in CODBLOPS (though I will feel sorry for you if this is your entry). You can write these up in paragraph form or send a podcast or an MSPaint image... whatever works for you.

Please note your ILX username on the ballot if you’re an ILXor or how you’d like to be credited if you’re not. DON’T FORGET to note the system you personally played each game on.

PLEASE WRITE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHY YOU'RE CASTING YOUR VOTES AS YOU ARE; mini-reviews of the game or of what made them special to you are highly appreciated but not mandatory. I'll include all your comments with the winners. If you’d like to discuss a game that didn’t make your ballot, that would be welcome too.

Any games that may have received votes in the 2011 poll will have their numbers rolled onto the 2012 poll, so no need to vote for them twice.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY IS FRIDAY, JANUARY 18th

Pointless obsessive rules:

1) One entry per person.

2) If you don't assign points to your picks, I'll assess each vote at ten points per game. If you do assign points but they add up as either more or less than a hundred, I'll assess each vote at ten points per game. If you assign over 30 or under 5 points to any individual game, I'll assess each vote at ten points per game. If you list more than ten games, I'll just take the top ten on your list. If you include a game that clearly didn't come out in 2012, it won't be counted. Ask on this thread if you want to check to see if your pick is valid.

3) If you're listing an obscure import-only title, flash game, social network, indie or lesser known phone game (basically anything not on the nominating list below), please include a URL for the game's fan/homepage and (if possible) a screenshot or two for the listing so I can figure out what you're raving about and note appropriately

4) Though I'd like you to note what system you've played a game on, I'll be considering votes for a game that's been released on different systems (i.e. PS3/360/PC Assassin’s Creed III) as all counting toward one nomination... unless there's a clear difference due to systems that affects gameplay (i.e. Madden on WiiU vs Madden for 360). In a case like Retro City Rampage for PSN vs console, I'll likely not be splitting hairs, but if you want to make the point that you ONLY like the PC version in your ballot, I'll take that into account.

5) Flash games, art games, MMORPGs, videogame versions of card and party games, social network games and cellphone games are all entirely valid choices as long as they were versions released and/or maintained with updated material in '12. I will also accept any game that has been re-released this year in a new format/console, any game that is in a continuous state of change (basically MMORPGs) or downloadable content for a game made prior to 2010. That means World of Warcraft and any classic NES games released as Wiiware or iOS remakes are legit picks. Here's the catch though: I do ask that you keep in the spirit of the thing and only vote for reissues/new content/ongoing games if you played them THIS YEAR and (when applicable) only on the new system in question... in other words, I won't vote for Jet Set Radio on PS3, even though I liked JSR a lot, because I didn't play it on the PS3… I played it on Dreamcast (lol old). If you’ve played a ton of Eve Online in the past, but none this year, don't vote for it. If you got Planescape for the PC from GOG this year, it's not a 2012 game. And so on.

6) Things that shouldn't even be considered: board games, competitive card games, puzzles, tabletop rpgs, online fantasy sports, etc. Good rule of thumb is that if it can only be played on a screen, it's valid.

A list of some of the best known games released in '12 (along with the system they play on) follows; your ballot will not be limited to these games but they're certainly the front runners and are all valid 2012 entries.

Fine, but that's specifically the Gods & Kings expansion up thee, the original game came out 2y ago (#21 game in Coint & Plick 2010, some good blurbs there).

I have a list of about a dozen games I want to at least SAMPLE before I send in my ballot so mine might be a bit last-minute. So many probably-excellent games that I'm jsut not gonna vote for on account of not buying them in time.

If anyone has any thoughts on any games that they'd like included, essay format or otherwise, get them to me in the next day or so and i'll include. Otherwise I want to walk away from this monster as finished and then just start posting them here over a two week period, ten per day.

aiming for five in the morning, five at night. may likely miss a day or two if life intervenes but it's gonna be finished so no major hangups.
finishing links and pictures for the top 37, writing an intro and a few of my own blurbs over the next week and we'll launch Feb 4.
