COUPE!

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 18 October 2014 20:41 (nine years ago) link

And with Michaela Watkins writing! Should be good.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 18 October 2014 20:58 (nine years ago) link

the Happy Endings cast member sitcom diaspora and the Women Lorne Michaels Did Not Like As Much As Kristen Wiig sitcom diaspora keep overlapping and doing good work

some dude, Saturday, 18 October 2014 21:11 (nine years ago) link

lol

Nhex, Sunday, 19 October 2014 03:44 (nine years ago) link

Coupe was best thing about this show

Master of Treacle, Sunday, 19 October 2014 05:08 (nine years ago) link

The best thing about this show was everyone

💪😈⚠️ (DJP), Sunday, 19 October 2014 15:50 (nine years ago) link

Except Dave. I know Dave had to be there in order for the show to function, but I never liked him.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 October 2014 15:53 (nine years ago) link

that's so Dave!

kinder, Sunday, 19 October 2014 17:47 (nine years ago) link

Dave won me over sometime around when the show started being consistently great... probably just after the beginning of season 2

Nhex, Sunday, 19 October 2014 18:34 (nine years ago) link

V necks

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 20 October 2014 03:00 (nine years ago) link

Dave (and Dave Sr.) was (are) responsible for one of my top 5 Happy Endings things - the "Mr. Rose was the name of my father." "But... that's me." bit.

Jouster, Monday, 20 October 2014 07:07 (nine years ago) link

Dave's dance at the start of the very last episode, when everyone disappears from the kitchen, is amazing

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 20 October 2014 08:48 (nine years ago) link

ok i've been out of the loop with this show (and happy endings) ... am i the only one more than a little FREAKED OUT at how much wayans jr takes after his dad?? holy moly. at first i was like dang damon wayans is looking good these days. i mean obviously i am an idiot. but really. it is astonishing.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 20 October 2014 22:22 (nine years ago) link

Dude's funnier than his dad.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 20 October 2014 22:27 (nine years ago) link

his dad maybe a little more earnest? but they have really similar timing.

ok i have now confirmed via the internet that that is the general consensus. apologies for bringing such a tired observation to the table.

anyway, thank you thread for alerting me to his, and this show's existence

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 20 October 2014 22:27 (nine years ago) link

yeah Dave started out being the archetypal Male Sitcom Lead Who Is Not Actually Funny and then got really really funny, partly because they played off of how lame he is so well

some dude, Monday, 20 October 2014 22:28 (nine years ago) link

AKA The Britta track

Nhex, Monday, 20 October 2014 23:03 (nine years ago) link

Haha, yeah sorta. Except I still don't like Dave most of the time except for the odd gag.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 20 October 2014 23:07 (nine years ago) link

Dave's 1/16th Navajo schtick during the Thanksgiving episode was amazing

💪😈⚠️ (DJP), Monday, 20 October 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link

Ross was a crap character in Friends until they made his inherent lameness the joke in later seasons. See Dave as kind of the same

three weeks pass...

If you want to hear COUPE! talk about shit for half an hour (and do it hilariously), here's the podcast episode for you: http://doodiecallswithdougmand.libsyn.com/doodie-calls-eliza-coupe

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 November 2014 16:19 (nine years ago) link

Also, Adam Pally (but I haven't listened to this one yet): http://doodiecallswithdougmand.libsyn.com/doodie-calls-with-doug-mand-adam-pally

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 November 2014 16:24 (nine years ago) link

The Pally one is one of the funniest ever iirc.

the incredible string gland (sic), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:05 (nine years ago) link

It was quite good. I was trying not to just completely lose it at my desk.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 November 2014 22:17 (nine years ago) link

Watched the first two episodes of Benched. Coupe is as lovely as ever but it's got that familiar USA veneer of mediocrity. Hope it gets better and they give Maria Bamford more to do.
Marry Me pilot was a better start, glad it's doing OK ratings-wise for NBC.

two months pass...

omg what does this meeeeeaaaaannnnn https://twitter.com/happywrites/status/563844694820405248

like, half of the Happy Endings cast have left their post-HE shows (Wayans, Pally) or their shows have been cancelled (Coupe)

though there's still the other three, but honestly save Wilson, who I also liked, the other two who have work lined up were the weakest so I'm fine with a new, streamlined Happy Endings with just Wayans, Coupe, and Pally

I realize I'm getting far too ahead of myself here

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Saturday, 7 February 2015 19:55 (nine years ago) link

If anyone thinks that series Elisha Cuthbert is on will last beyond a few airings, they're mistaken. And I haven't been following Marry Me at all, but I'd have to think Casey Wilson could pull double duty since her husband's the boss and also created Happy Endings.

I haven't seen Zachery Knighton since the last episode of Happy Endings.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 7 February 2015 20:21 (nine years ago) link

As one commenter pointed out, this might just be the day that Happy Endings shows up on streaming platforms.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 7 February 2015 20:25 (nine years ago) link

It warms my heart to think that Wayans and Pally left their much more successful shows to do Happy Endings again

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Saturday, 7 February 2015 20:26 (nine years ago) link

As for the show appearing on streaming platforms, it is, or was, on Netflix, at least here in Canada. I know because I tried to convert some friends with a few episodes, they weren't into it :((((

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Saturday, 7 February 2015 20:34 (nine years ago) link

shoot, didn't know Wayans Jr. was leaving New Girl again. bummer.

Nhex, Saturday, 7 February 2015 20:52 (nine years ago) link

Pally was one of the few revolving door supporting players on The Mindy Project who really fit into the show and was used well, shame to see him go. and New Girl w/ Wayans is so great, bummed that he's doing too. they better both be doing lots of good shit in the near future to justify all this.

some dude, Sunday, 8 February 2015 03:57 (nine years ago) link

this was truly a great tv show

weird loners is really good

entry-level umami (mild bleu cheese vibes) (s.clover), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 18:57 (eight years ago) link

Is it? I haven't watched (and neither has America, it appears).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 18:59 (eight years ago) link

watched it last night; I loved it, my wife hated it

DJP, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 19:00 (eight years ago) link

i thought the pilot was all right. forgot about the show though, i should catch up

Nhex, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 19:08 (eight years ago) link

Umm, so I liked Marry Me more than most people (which is to say I liked it just fine, and most people I think just hated it), is it coming back or what? I think it was just put on "hiatus" by NBC but it hasn't been cancelled yet so it's been in limbo for months now.

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 21:47 (eight years ago) link

5 minutes of the weird loners pilot was more than enough

adam, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 21:47 (eight years ago) link

hey wait shit, what happened with the countdown?

Who M the best? (Will M.), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 21:53 (eight years ago) link

It was the dumbest april fools joke ever.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 22:09 (eight years ago) link

Marry Me silently reappeared on the schedule a few weeks ago. I like it enough, but it's probably not coming back.

Nhex, Thursday, 7 May 2015 05:13 (eight years ago) link

where do you live? they aired the last 4 produced episodes in the UK but they haven't aired at all in the US.

some dude, Thursday, 7 May 2015 10:39 (eight years ago) link

in the US - i didn't see the eps on air but I think I saw them get added to my cable On Demand service
but in all honesty i could have imagined it

Nhex, Thursday, 7 May 2015 14:02 (eight years ago) link

ok i checked, and i TOTALLY imagined it. damn. i must've been glancing at a tv schedule site or app

Nhex, Friday, 8 May 2015 06:18 (eight years ago) link

well, both Marry Me and Weird Loners are officially cancelled

Nhex, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 14:03 (eight years ago) link

waaaaah

entry-level umami (mild bleu cheese vibes) (s.clover), Wednesday, 13 May 2015 19:43 (eight years ago) link

Pally was on @midnight Monday and it looked like he'd neither been working recently nor had any plans to do so in the near future. Suspect he hadn't even showered in a couple days.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 19:44 (eight years ago) link

now with the mindy vanity project canceled AP is truly outta work :/
