We're planning a memorial page to Martin (probably using Freaky Trigger's server space, though not FT-branded): this would include pictures of him, a short account of his achievements, a full set of links to the many very moving obits that have now gone up and to some of his best-loved pieces -- and also some kind of section encouraging people to swap stories about him, fond, funny, fascinating, gathered from comments threads, message boards, and elsewhere.
I'm sure many ilxors have such stories: so I'm putting out a call for you to email them to me -- post them here also if you like, but if there are any you'd like to tell without necessarily making your name or cognomen public, just email them direct to me, and I'll anonymise them before we out them up.
I imagine it'll take a week or two before we get it designed and gathered and sorted and edited.

Don't have anything to contribute, but that's a lovely idea and I wish you all the best with it.

I am not a great writer by any means so I'm not the ideal contributor, but I am glad this is being put together.

Just to remind anyone that didn't see it -- email me stories if you don't want to put them up here or on the RIP page

It took a bit longer than planned, what with one thing and another, but here is the Freaky Trigger memorial page for Martin.

Nice work! I didn't really ever interact with Martin, but I've always enjoyed his writing, very cool to see this. I like the use of the Wu-Tang logo.

happy birthday martin!
i will always be honored that martin appeared on me and mark s's podcast once. we didn't have a studio so martin came to my apartment. i spread a blanket on the kitchen table to try and muffle the reverb. i think martin was our first guest to say straight out he didn't think much of the story, but he used it as a launching point for one of the best discussions i think we ever had on the show.

his knowledge and curiosity and humility were all legendary. i wish i could have shared all the incredible bandes dessinées i've discovered in france. he was always envious of french comics culture.

Beautifully put, Tracer Hand.
Just the other day I was sorting out some books and wondering why I had two identical paperback copies of Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said by Philip K Dick. I opened one of them and found that it had a bookplate pasted on the first page - it was the book that Martin had chosen for a school prize. I inherited a number of Martin's PKD holdings, never noticed the plate before, and was of course deeply moved.
Hardly a day goes by when I don't think, 'Would love to talk to Skidmore about...'

Thanks for sharing this, Tracer.
I have a big pile of Samuel R Delany books in my bedroom and whenever I see them I think about Martin, and also about H@zel's very touching speech at Martin's memorial service, when she talked about him reading a worn down-copy of Dhalgren for the very final time. Books live on after us - but we live on through them too.

This page appears to be gone :/ Anybody know how we can get it back?
His birthday today and I'm thinking of him.
