After the producers select their elite 3,000 they spend weeks reviewing dozens of people at a time, herding them into hotel conference rooms around the country and making them run a battery of tests: a written quiz of 50 Jeopardy! questions, a live round of Actual Jeopardy! with Actual Buzzers, and an interview Q&A. From this, they winnow the would-be contestants to the 400 people who actually appear on the show during the season—a .4% acceptance rate overall.

i made it to the Actual (but not really) Jeopardy stage, i think I was exposed as a very casual viewer and not the hardcore type they wanted

I'm almost certain that I would play Real Jeopardy! the way I play videogames. Click the buzzer a fraction of a second too late and mutter 'oh, fuck off' a little too loudly and that would be that.

Don't get discouraged by that percentage! Take the audition experience as a fun lark and story to tell on its own terms... You'll feel better about it if you don't make it, but also that kind of relaxed and having-fun attitude will come through in how you conduct yourself in Actual Jeopardy!, which may help you stand out as a contestant. I'm pretty sure this is what got me in to be honest.

i imagine they don't want somebody who yells FUCK after every missed question which is my standard playing style.

Yeah the Final Jeopardy category choice was RIDICULOUS. In the best sense. And of course being me I was thinking "4AD? Merge?" And it turns out to be something I thought was easy, but clearly wasn't based on the other two.

haha i saw that one in the newspaper yesterday (you know how they run printed final jeopardies as an ad for the show) and got hung up on the pounds sterling aspect, thinking it had to be a clue. "Solid Gold Records???"

i took the test online tonight kind of on a whim, i know i got at least half of them right, but i think 35 out of 50 is the cutoff so idk abt that. im gonna forgot about this for a few months then watch a grip of episodes on netflix again and say "hey maybe i should take the jeopardy test."
