i like the hirschorn museum and fugazi, but these delightful islands would have to have some supremely shitty people in them to overtake the district's negatives

The Northern Mariana Islands have the lowest male to female sex ratio in the world with an average of 76 men to every 100 women.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Friday, 19 February 2010 05:01 (fourteen years ago) link

Man, I bet every guy there gets laid there at 1.00/.76 the rate of the average man

^^potentially not true at all, sry^^ (Z S), Friday, 19 February 2010 05:02 (fourteen years ago) link

1.00/.76 is also the ratio by how much your penis size increases when in the northern marianas island fyi

xpost about guam:

eh i thought it was fine. there's a strong military presence. it's very japanese-focused, they're 90% of the tourists. there are beautiful spots, but it's also kind of mall-y and run-down in places.

there are certainly parts of the south pacific i'd go to again before guam. that said, it doesn't get my vote here.

ere, Friday, 19 February 2010 18:54 (fourteen years ago) link

what a fucking dope setup that was, RIP 20s

as far as tropical tourist traps go, the US virgin islands isn't bad at all.

i could understand hating on the british virgin islands -- esp. since the part of their economy not devoted to tourism appears to be entirely devoted to encouraging money laundering.

Just got back from Puerto Rico. I was struck how much it reminded me of Albania, with beautiful beaches but crumbling buildings. Very surreal to see, say, a nice hotel next to empty lot next to a building with boarded up windows and trees growing through the roof, etc, almost as if a hurricane hit years ago and no one bothered to rebuild (which I suppose may have been the case where we largely were). Also, I saw lots of bombed out cars with missing windows and no wheels, plus lots of places referenced in guide books - parks, museums, restaurants - mysteriously closed, shut down or otherwise derelict. Apparently if PR was a state, it would be poorer than Mississippi.

I should also stress that there were plenty of well-maintained/modern/historic/interesting things to see and do, too. Just surprised by the dilapidated low-points.
