Zing Touch: ILX now ON IPHONE (and ipod tooches too)

1.0 didn't have poll support -- you need to update! I think both lite and full should have polls now; they definitely do in the next release.

hey stet zing is awesome

it crashes for me on occasion but no more than any other great app. obv, being able to start threads and use a search function would be great, but jumping over to safari for that isn't too hard.

my number one request/ complaint however is this:

-if you have a thread bookmarked on a message that is more than 100 posts from the end of the thread, zing will only take you to the last 100 posts, and not to your bookmarked post.

obv not a problem that comes up too much, but it would be nice to have fixed in an update.

New feature: improved clusterfuck thread management

Not really complaining, but one minor glitch: occasionally when I touch a thread, it just instantly closes down and I'm back on the iPhone home screen. As crashes go, it's not that inconvenient or frustrating (like a freeze-up or time-out would be).

Crashes: If you sync with iTunes, you'll find crash logs in these folders:
Mac OS X : ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/<DEVICE_NAME>
Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>

Look in that folder, find the ones with "Zing" in the title, and fire 'em off to stet @ ilxor and i'll take a look. Lots of them likely to be fixed in the latest update, though.

I'm...wondering...was there a problem with using a normal browser via the iphone or similar device? I never had a smart phone before now but this droid thing seems to do okay with ILX although it doesn't remember where I left off a long thread and return me to my exit point. But other than that, it seems v functional.

IIRC this whole thing came about because stet was messing around with Apple application development and made an ILX reader as a test application, which he then converted into an iPhone app

do you use bookmarks Laurel? Zing handles bookmarks much much better than the phone's browser ime - on the iphone anyway.

really like Zing btw stet - cheers for making it. Would second the comment about only being able to load up clusterfuck threads in groups of 100s. don't bother if it's too difficult for you tho - i'd much prefer access to the search functions if poss.

Don't use bookmarks, no. Never understood what they were for, basically. I am not tech-y like at all.

It's so that when yr fave threads get updated, you can 1)see that there are new posts (useful for when you haven't been ilx-ing for a while and a thread you're interested in has a new post or posts but is sunk beneath many other threads), and 2) takes you directly to where you left off in reading the thread

Basically, just go to your fave thread and bookmark the most recent message. Next time someone posts to that thread you'll see how it works. "try it you'll like it", etc

You can see the entire width of the page with Zing without having to use gestures.

I thought it might be. Again, it's not that big a deal, just the only design flaw in an otherwise great app imo

id also like to see an option where you can choose to have images load in the main thread screen. I guess it would be slow on 3G but might be okay on wifi?

On review, my phone doesn't handle SNA, it only shows one board at a time, I think, even though my log-in preferences are for lots of boards to show up.

Will Zing work on a droid?

images on the main thread screen was just unusably slow when I tried it out. It might be OK on an iPhone 4, but I'll look into it.

Also: I know Zing Lite's pretty neglected -- made some mistakes that mean updating it is harder than it should be -- so I've put Zing Touch on sale for $2 until I can sort it out. If you use it a lot it's probably worth it -- there's a ton of bug fixes and features in ZT.

Just sprung for the full version. I'm sure I won't regret it. Apart from the Twitter app, Zing Lite was easily my most used app.

The other thing that crossed my mind -- the 'reconnect' feature is wonderful, but I notice it doesn't automatically refresh the page either. Might that be a possibility?

It would be pull-up for Zing, wouldn't it? Will look at that. Have also done away with the reconnecting thing in next version, have better solution.

hey stet--upgraded to ios 4.2 this weekend and zing is now telling me i can't bookmark because i have old style bookmarking enabled (which i mostly certainly do not). any ideas?

clear your cache? (logout and relogin)? reinstall? (sorry I'm not stet)

That flashed up for me but it went away again after a second. I agree with dayo, reinstall it.

I had some strange behavior with the update, but then I logged out and in and it went away.

These are the things I would love to see (but am not demanding):

- control over font size
- ability to re-add hidden borads

I'd love to adjust font sizes as well. Not a fan of shaking to do anything because I end up doing this by accident way too often.

SNA page is where the fonts are badliest in their bigness. Not a fan of the whole tram seeing 49 reasons she thinks he's gay (although I could always just use the normal ilx site so)
