one month passes...

Anyone out there running iOS 4.0 fancy being a beta tester?

stet, Monday, 14 June 2010 20:31 (fourteen years ago) link

i have a bug with mine recently where i can't post anything, it says "it is a mystery" fail message.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 14 June 2010 20:34 (fourteen years ago) link

It'll be the cache; I don't know what's causing it but I'll have a look just now.

To fix: Press the gear icon on the home page, and then press login.

Sorry, quick question -- is tere a search feature in this? If so, I can't find it. Other than that, love it.

hey i can test too. i actually do it for a living. one feature id like to see -> the ability to pick the boards i see in site new answers.

knocking u out like rocky balboa (sunny successor), Saturday, 19 June 2010 06:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Any plans for an Android app, Stet? Way more Androids than iPhones in the UK (although admittedly these stats don't take into account the iPod Touch, or the probability that ILX users skew Apple-wards).

Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Saturday, 19 June 2010 10:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Sunny: that feature's in there, sort-of: hit "edit" on the home screen and delete the boards you don't care about and it'll hide them from SNA too. (Do you just want to hide from SNA and still keep them on the list?)

Android: Ken C was talking about looking at doing one. I'm probably not: don't have one and don't know how to code for it!

stet, Saturday, 19 June 2010 12:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Interesting. Visits to ILX via mobiles in last two weeks (doesn't include Zing visits)
1. iPhone 8,162
2. iPod 2,516
3. Android 1,968
4. iPad 1,185
5. BlackBerry 1,036

Way more Androids than iPhones in the UK

Have you got a link for this one? It sounds wrong to me.

JimD, Saturday, 19 June 2010 16:55 (fourteen years ago) link

some numbers here, mostly US --- http://stuff.tv/news/By-numbers-Android-vs-iPhone/14488/

1 in 5 – ratio of new smartphones sold on contract in the UK that use Android, according to GfK.

slow motion hair ruffle (onimo), Saturday, 19 June 2010 18:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, but

51 million – iPhones sold worldwide since Apple launched the device in 2007. Android has only been around since October 2008, but sales figures published in February 2010 claim almost 8.5 million Android phones had been sold up to that point.

JimD, Saturday, 19 June 2010 19:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Uh what's the point of the argument either way? Unless someone buys stet an android phone.

Jeff, Saturday, 19 June 2010 20:18 (fourteen years ago) link

:(
I searched for "zing lite android" and thought i was in luck.

Jeff, Saturday, 26 June 2010 02:48 (fourteen years ago) link

one thing ive been experiencing recently -- ON IPHONE 4.0, zing will occasionally quit as soon as i've clicked on site new answers. anyone else get this?

jeff, Saturday, 26 June 2010 02:57 (fourteen years ago) link

got that yesterday but it happened like once

crüt it out (dyao), Saturday, 26 June 2010 02:58 (fourteen years ago) link

never had that. stet are you planning on a search function?

post class A nasal drip (sunny successor), Saturday, 26 June 2010 03:03 (fourteen years ago) link

I am, but not for the next version. I've got a new version almost ready to send to you and the other testers with multitasking, starting new threads and a tonne of other fixes almost ready to go, probably tomorrow.

Search is harder because it will take a load of server-side stuff as well.

stet, Saturday, 26 June 2010 12:07 (fourteen years ago) link

bring it on

two months pass...

hi stet, i use zing just about everyday, thanks again for developing and releasing it.

a few quick suggestions that might be useful for the next update (if you're planning on updating, that is)

- when posting a new message, it would be nice if the trashcan icon could be moved farther away from the keypad. several times i've been feverishly typing out a message, a paragraph or two deep, and then I accidentally miss a letter and trash the whole message.
- alternatively, maybe a warning message would suffice, e.g., "are you SURE you want to delete your message?"
- a remove bookmark function would be helpful.
- probably much much more difficult to implement, but a search function would be sweeeeet

Socrates, you asshole (Z S), Monday, 20 September 2010 01:32 (fourteen years ago) link

You can remove bookmarks by swiping left.

Jeff, Monday, 20 September 2010 01:43 (fourteen years ago) link

The Close button is too close to the editing area--I hit it constantly when I'm trying to paste stuff into the start of the message. Perhaps it should be moved to the bottom toolbar? Also, when is the new version coming out?

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Monday, 20 September 2010 01:49 (fourteen years ago) link

whoa, i never knew that! thanks!

wait where do I swipe left? nothings happening.

"ill samosa, hoos" "gibreel, big wrink" (gr8080), Monday, 20 September 2010 01:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh, well, while this thread's been bumped, I've been meaning to note to stet that I get crashes nearly every time I vote in a poll or delete a bookmark. On a 3G, if that helps.

Clay, Monday, 20 September 2010 03:13 (fourteen years ago) link

how are you voting in polls

"ill samosa, hoos" "gibreel, big wrink" (gr8080), Monday, 20 September 2010 03:31 (fourteen years ago) link

the most recent version allows you too! Top of a poll is like "20 poll options", click through that, then select an option and there's a "vote" button. Then Zing crashes :(

Clay, Monday, 20 September 2010 03:52 (fourteen years ago) link

how do i get most recent version? Won't it appear in Updates in app store?

omg is it rly tru r u srly a woodpecker taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap (Stevie D), Monday, 20 September 2010 03:56 (fourteen years ago) link

well this most recent update was, like, quite awhile ago?

Clay, Monday, 20 September 2010 04:18 (fourteen years ago) link

a search function would be quite nice :-)

village idiot (dog latin), Monday, 20 September 2010 10:57 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean, like a "find on page" function

village idiot (dog latin), Monday, 20 September 2010 10:57 (fourteen years ago) link

freaky -- I sent the new version to Apple last night. Includes multitasking and a ton of bug fixes, including for the poll crash (in the meantime Clay you can probably fix that by deleting and reinstalling).

Other things:
- Delete button: yeh, will add a warning to that
- Close button: that needs to be there for UI guideline reasons, sry.
- Search in page: Yeah, I really want this too, it's next.

stet, Monday, 20 September 2010 11:18 (fourteen years ago) link

hey stet zing is great but it can be pretty crashy - usually after i update a bookmark (or post) and go back to the browsing screen

the milagro-beanfield war criminal (s1ocki), Monday, 20 September 2010 11:58 (fourteen years ago) link

that doesn't sound right. can you email me your crash logs and I'll take a look?

stet, Monday, 20 September 2010 13:57 (fourteen years ago) link

no stability issues here - I'd have comments on the Mac app and on how much I'd like to see an iPad app, but the iphone version works great for me

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 20 September 2010 14:21 (fourteen years ago) link

mine is a bit crashy (on xposts, sometimes on opening threads) but totally liveable-with, i still love using it.

camphor jars (c sharp major), Monday, 20 September 2010 14:25 (fourteen years ago) link

it never crashes for me. still would LOVE to be able to select which boards show threads in site new answers.

Dudes I still can't figure out how to do polls. Is it only on Zing Touch and not on Zing Lite?

omg is it rly tru r u srly a woodpecker taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap (Stevie D), Monday, 20 September 2010 16:48 (fourteen years ago) link

sunny, i think you can do that? i appear to have done that, anyway - i think by swiping right on the boards you don't want, on the opening-screen list of boards, you can delete them from your sna as well as from the list of boards that show on the opening screen?

(i would test this but i don't know how to bring a board back once deleted)

camphor jars (c sharp major), Monday, 20 September 2010 16:53 (fourteen years ago) link

I can't swipe right OR left on any screen!

omg is it rly tru r u srly a woodpecker taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap (Stevie D), Monday, 20 September 2010 17:13 (fourteen years ago) link

do you have an edit button?

camphor jars (c sharp major), Monday, 20 September 2010 17:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Stevie, if you swipe left (OR right, IME) on the bookmark, a red button that says "DELETE" should appear.
