over the years I always thought Taco Bell was the leader in food I loved eating but that tore me up from the inside. but lately eating there has only made me feel excessively full, but not necessary 'ill' or torn my stomach up. hell even an order of BK's chicken fries did worse.
chipotle on the other hand? i mean i love their burritos, especially with shredded pork....but i pretty much gotta make no plans for after that meal. it's just rough on the body, which is a downer when you want to eat the food but know what it does to you.
ugh...so torn.

I switched to crispy tacos at Chipotle, with lots of lettuce for roughage.
I don't think I've ever tried Taco Bell. That shit is gross.

I honestly don't understand this question. I'm really not a huge Chipotle fan or anything, but it's just relatively (for fast food) fresh beans, rice, cilantro, etc, whereas Taco Bell is straight up grade Q meat and e. coli in a tortilla.
If TB's gentler on your stomach, you're obviously one of the new race who has adapted to industrial foods and I congratulate you in in advance for your genes' eventual dominance and eradication of mine.

On the other hand, if you go to Chipotle wanting real Mexican food, you will also be disappointed. The thing I don't like about that place (besides it being expensive for a burrito), is that they make it look like you have all these choices, but you really don't have very many. I don't know if it's possible to just get a regular burrito.

― Elvin Wayburn Phillips, Sunday, 2 August 2009 17:38 (fourteen years ago) link
I can actually handle Taco Bell better than Chipotle, gastrointestinally speaking, because Taco Bell ingredients are all processed to an inert, nearly pre-digested paste whereas Chipotle ingredients are all raw and fresh and require more effort on the part of my digestive system than it is generally willing or able to offer.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 2 August 2009 17:46 (fourteen years ago) link
Back when I used to eat this shit, Chipotle destroyed my gut whereas Taco Bell was just fine. I used to always get the Barbacoa beef burrito at Chipotle - with the corn salsa. TB's food is all pretty much the same - I avoided anything with that gross nacho cheese, but otherwise TB is TB. So I guess it's less about Chipotle vs TB and more about Barbacoa beef burrito versus high school cafeteria style "Mexican" food... really bland with no spices.
Everything TB makes is dehydrated except for the cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes.

The Pico de Gallo from Chipotle is serviceable, and the lime-ish chips are yummy. I like that they use natural meat (which is more than I can say for any of my local favorite taquerias). My big problem with them is that everything sort-of tastes the same, like it all got sprinkled with the same seasoned salt.
― schwantz, Sunday, 2 August 2009 20:09 (fourteen years ago) link

They use antibiotic-free, natural meat from suppliers like Meyer (I think that's the name). It's not organic, or grass-fed, but at least it's not the scary-ass cheap meat that it takes to get to $1.25/taco.

I have to admit: while I'm not above using the whole commonplace for a lame joke, I have never understood this whole thing about Mexican food supposedly being hard on the digestive system. (Taco Bell, yes, but not because it's Mexican.) I think I might be more worried about my guts after eating some kind of cream-heavy French thing, you know? Otherwise mostly with n.i.c.k. up there -- Taco Bell gets pretty processed and nasty, whereas Chipotle is in that whole "fairly real as far as fast food goes" category, so ... I mean, I dunno, Chipotle is barely even "Mexican" in any digestively significant way, so far as I can tell, just grilled meat and vegetables/beans/rice/etc. I can even say that I was once at a festival where there was free Chipotle, and I ate basically nothing but three servings of it daily for two and a half days, and experienced no trauma. (In fact, when I got home, they had just put a Chipotle in on my corner, and I somehow ate it again during the next week.)

Chipotle burritos are too big. They're significantly bigger than the average taqueria burrito in SF, which with meat, is pretty much a meal in itself. I think they put something in their pinto beans that doesn't sit well with me, and I don't like black beans very much.

the mere memory/fear of how i'll feel after i eat taco bell has kept me away for a long long time, though i ate it pretty consistently in the years 1993 to 1998.
chipotle is BLAND AS FUCK -- kinda similar to subway, really, when you mistakenly ask for lettuce and then remember they put on a half-pound to make your sandwich look huge and filling -- and even if all that fat/calorie shit upthread is wrong, chiptole burritos still way too high in cal/fat when i can get a much tastier burrito down the block.

I've gone to that new Mexican place, Tracer - our waitress was so appalling I don't know if I'll ever go back. It was deeply embarrassing because my dining companion was greeted warmly by his friend, the owner, and we were comped drinks that the waitress took 30 minutes to bring (and had to be reminded). After that, we had to give her a second reminder about 'where is the salsa and chips?', and 30 minutes after that we had to remind her to bring my friend's entree (mine somehow came out minus fixings, with the salsa and chips), and when I asked 'where the guac at?' was told that they'd run out.
Sticking to Wahaca, Donkey Daddy and the nest of burrito wagons/cafés around Goodge Street.

My Burrito Bol Print E-mailWritten by ChipotLoser
Secret Burrito BolSecret Burrito BolHere is my SECRET Burrito Bol weightloss formula.
Breakfast: cup of coffee and an egg (scrambled or hardboiled).
Lunch: Fajita Bol (peppers, onions, steak, tomato salsa, green tomatillo salsa, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, romaine lettuce)
Dinner: Fajita Bol (peppers, onions, steak, tomato salsa, green tomatillo salsa, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, romaine lettuce)
Yes. I eat two of these burrito bols each day. This totals about 1480 calories and 29 impact carbohydrates daily.
Do not be fooled. This diet is not solely based on calories. It has a slightly low-carb effect. So, stick with my Chipotle Diet formula. The only substitution you should make is the meat. You can choose any meat, however, the chicken may be best for weightloss. I usually get the steak and it hasn't hurt me yet. Check My Progress.
Oh and don't forget to order guacamole, cheese and sour cream. Yes, you can have all of these! I do.
