So I got this green teflon Prada jacket that makes me look like the coolest techno dude that ever lived. Which of course begs the question Prada: instant futuristic elegance or overpriced toss?

Omar, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i love prada, but miu miu is as good in quality 4 cheaper, peeps.

junichiro, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

is prada like a city or something?

Geoff, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

It's way too expensive for what you get.

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

It's true isn't it Ally? Thank the fashion gods for sales that seem never ending. :)

Omar, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I have a pair of Prada shoes that have lasted for 4 years now. I think that there is one main shoe manufacturer that does all of Prada's, Miu Miu, D&G, etc shoes, and the quality/craftsmanship seems really good. So Prada shoes: Classic Prada trendiness: Dud Prada prices: Dud

I saw some Prada rip off shoes the other day. That's when you know somethings have gotten a bit too trendy for comfort.

I'm not up on designers but I do have a knack for finding the most expensive designery thing in a store. Lately I fancy a Manderina Duck luggage peice(£250)and a YMC coat(£200). I have always wanted a Burburry's poncho. I don't like Louis Vuitton bags, but Tanner Kohl(sp) bags are fantastically expensive and classic. Chanel, Ana Demeulmeister, Dries Van Noten, Missoni, Helmut Lang, and so many other designers whose names I can spell make me realize just how materialistic I am. Sob.

marianna, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Well-made? Who knows, who cares! Well overpriced, and makes you look faggy.

Sean, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i liek marc jacobs but i still won't buy a purse from him like steve malkmus, it's 2 unmanly even if u try 2 b indie macho and say it's a carry all.

junichiro, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

It's not a purse, it's a European carry-all.

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

it's a purse, woman! steve can be all, "it's not a purse but a carryall", but people can see it for what it is. if u saw him with his carryall, peeps would be saying "why does that guy carry a purse? he doesn't look fancy enough to deserve 1"

junichiro, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

And then he could say, "But yes, I am a fancy boy."

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

he's not fancy, his hair is 2 greasy and his socks r 2 loose. so it makes no sense.

junichiro, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Okay, what, no one reading this thread watches Seinfeld? Damnit.

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Classic if only for the way she exploits her roots.
I used to be an avid fan of the bags. The clothes are alright. I own a few items. But the shoes? I prefer Gucci-loafers.

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

seinfeld's jeans were 2 tight, i couldn't get with that.

junichiro, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I prefer Paul Smith if i am overpaying for clothes . In fact i think my wardrobe has no Prada . It is made for skinny folk.

anthony, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Ally, I totally got the Seinfeld "Euopean Carry-All" reference, and I even remember its appearance on an earlier, purse-related thread. The one about Stephen Malkmus appearing in Vogue, I think.

I like the clothes. I like how they draw on the mundane and "ugly" for inspiration, and I like that whole 20s-30s Marxist Woman look. Sexy + severe is a really appropriate look for libraries.

Naturally I can't afford any of it, but unlike a lot of other clothes, I can do a half-assed approximation of it with thrift garb. Although a Prada skirt was the one expensive item that I found on sale and came close to buying.

Nathalie: she does that pretty smart, sort of always hinting at some Commie-tech of the future aesthetic, right? Personally I think the shoes for men are dud overall, make me think of Hobbit shoes most of the time. Overall i liked the '99 future stuff better than those "discreet charm of the bourgeoisie" collections.

Omar, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Yeah, spot on, Omar. The shoes are indeed dud. I bought a pair a few years ago. They instantly stretched ten sizes.

I currently hold 6 pairs of Prada shoes, 1 pair of Miu Miu's, two pairs of Prada trousers(pants to the janks), three Prada shirts and one Miu Miu shirt, I purchased it all over a period of three months and it came to a total of £1790 and I can tell you, that it was money very well spent because the results have been fantastic if ya know what I mean (women stupid!), I recommend if ya have the money(if not get a second job or something like me) get Prada / Miu Miu!!!!!! Best shops i've visited at to-date are Triads in Middlesbrough(Fab), Harvey Nic's in Leeds, Strand in Newcastle(very good), Van mildas in Durham(good on prada). If ya live south(lucky bastards) and ya not a northern lad like me I recommend The actual Prada shop in london (only one in England and apparently sells Prada! - a joke)? P.S Omar I don’t even know why your asking buddy ELEGENCE OF EXERCUCTION

Prada has always tried to set a higher standard of designer clothing than most other designers. There loafers and sports trainers are excellent ive always especially gone for the sport shoes which have a higher degree of class than most other sport brands like Nike,Addidas,Puma Etc. Have you been into a Footlocker or JD Sports lately the trainers are vile. When it comes to buying a pair of shoes you can not beat a pair of Gucci's Classic loafers but Prada seem to have alot more shoes with slimline rubber soles which last much longer. I mean i own about 27 pairs of Gucci Loafers which are still in quite good condition apart from the ones that have'nt been worn yet. Due to the fact they have been only worn once, when I was in the shop trying them on. As for the Prada shoes I own they all still look emaculate because of the hard wearing soles. Prada produce some nice coats i own three. A Parka jacket. A casual three-quarter length and a rain coat. Ive had the parka jacket three years and its still as good as the day i bought it. I say you pay for quality and withg prada thats what you get. There t-shirts are the best

Prada has always statisfied me there clothing is shere elagance

GT, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

humans are vile.

jess, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

What the hell does "statisfied" mean?

Matt, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

ELEGENCE OF EXERCUCTION is my new motto

mark s, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Good motto. Emaculate, in fact.

Matt, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Even if there were no mispellings, that post is highly questionable.

Sean, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

i must say "green teflon jacket" does sound kinda cool but hmmm what can i say when i can get crimplene dresses for $2 at Presbyterian Support. but then i am a "flaming mongrel pinko" as alf says on home and away.

In my personal opinion, if you want a nice pair of walking shoes that is comfortable and yet long lasting i would suggest you to go for prada sport shoes, the rubber soles and the inner cushioning makes the walk an amazing experience

if you are looking for a pair of shoes on a cocktail party occsaion, the best choice would be salvatore ferragamo, they never do hurt you or scrape ur skin
