Finally!

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 21:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Woohoo! ;)

Imagine being an elevator (Bimble), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 21:25 (fourteen years ago) link

hooray!

video embed reminds me that i recently found the last ABBA album on vinyl and have been really digging it

roman knockwell (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 21:27 (fourteen years ago) link

the visitors is my favorite ABBA album that isn't ABBA gold or ABBA more gold! "like an angel passing through my room" = <3

the grouse of the solitary faggot (donna rouge), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 21:30 (fourteen years ago) link

i really need a better turntable. i swear that i can hear the pitch shift up slowly as a side plays through. my boyfriend doesn't notice it but it drives me crazy when i can tell a song has ended a semitone higher over where it started.

roman knockwell (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 21:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh no, that's awful. I remember having a turntable as a teenager that gave me a similar problem. That ABBA pic is so big! LOL. I'm not much of an ABBA fan, they're alright.

Imagine being an elevator (Bimble), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 21:38 (fourteen years ago) link

I promise not to mention the word "heteronormative" on this thread so Elmo doesn't yell at me.

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 21:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Was never much of an ABBA fan until my (straight) boss forced me to download ABBA Gold as a condition of my having a vague influence/control over music in the coffeeshop. They've grown on me, although I'm not really sure where I'd go from the 20 or so tracks I have.

To "Bang-A-Boomerang," their greatest contribution to human existence:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXn6AvL4wFE

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 22:02 (fourteen years ago) link

i disagree. "Eagle" and its video were their biggest contribution to the world.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 23:14 (fourteen years ago) link

"Eagle" is absolutely gorgeous, better Pink Floyd than Pink Floyd ever managed. But it doesn't send you back to The Imaginary the way "Bang-A-Boomerang" does.

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 23:20 (fourteen years ago) link

mayhaps, but LOOK AT THEIR ANIMAL PRINT DRESSES

the table is the table, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 23:21 (fourteen years ago) link

i must admit that the "Eagle" video was the first thing that n!ck and i talked about the first time we met. so it has nice memories attached to it.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 23:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Yes, the animal print dresses and the video overall (esp. Agnetha's [tearful?] look skyward) are ace. "Eagle" is definitely in my all-time Abba top ten.

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 23:30 (fourteen years ago) link

t3vin c. (The Reverend), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 03:26 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't know, out of the three posted, I think "Summer Night City" is the best because it's just disco-y enough that I can ignore what usually turns me off about them.

Imagine being an elevator (Bimble), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 03:43 (fourteen years ago) link

man, i hate ABBA.

Me first.

the grouse of the solitary faggot (donna rouge), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 04:12 (fourteen years ago) link

Ned, I'm taking that as a compliment. Guy Fierce? Woof!

And to counter all the Abba negativity, here's my Abba all-time top ten:

1. "Bang-A-Boomerang"
2. "Angel Eyes"
3. "Dream World"
4. "Medley: Pick A Bale Of Cotton-On Top Of Old Smokey-Midnight Special"
5. "Does Your Mother Know"
6. "Happy Hawaii"
7. "Eagle"
8. "Dancing Queen"
9. "Mamma Mia"
10. "Hey Hey Helen"

one of the best dreams i've ever had: my friends putting on a choreographed multimedia light show extravaganza in my honor accompanied by "lovelight" (happened the night before my last birthday)

the grouse of the solitary faggot (donna rouge), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 04:24 (fourteen years ago) link

and "angel eyes" rules so hard

the grouse of the solitary faggot (donna rouge), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 04:27 (fourteen years ago) link

KJB, "Voulez-Vous" not on that list seriously diminishes your credibility, imho.

the table is the table, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 04:31 (fourteen years ago) link

I adore it but there were only ten slots. And I don't go to Abba for disco, fine as this disco is. If you haven't heard it, check out "As Good As New" from the Voulez-Vous album. it's about as funky as Abba ever got.

Donna, the chorus to "Lovelight" is a choreographed multimedia light show extravaganza in the honor of anyone blessed with it. It's your birthday every time you hear it. I love how the voices start so morose (some of their "worst" singing ever) and slowly get more wide angle until "LOVELIGHT!!!!!!!!!"

When I first got the song on CD, a friend used some program to slow it down so we could figure out what the hell they were singing. We determined that the line we were having the most trouble with was "This songbird's seeing things a little wiser." Now the interwebs tells me that it's "This old dirty ceiling seems a little whiter."

oh, i wish i could've seen it!

the boy i was swooning over? found out he's pretty much straight. but we hung out and the problem is that i actually really like him, and want to be his friend, but yknow, that difficulty there.

also, found a new place to live! West Oakland all the way, baby, with three queer ladies. very excited.

my bach penises and their contrapuntal technique (the table is the table), Sunday, 13 September 2009 00:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Bleh. I'm getting so bored of taking vaguely straight men out to dinner and not copping a feel.

vulva eyes (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 13 September 2009 02:02 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't see all that much problem with spending time with attractive straight men

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Sunday, 13 September 2009 02:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Sort of makes me feel more attractive by association.

(Also makes me feel straight by association, which is admittedly a problem.)

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Sunday, 13 September 2009 03:00 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't need associations to feel attractive.

vulva eyes (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 13 September 2009 03:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, that would be pretty sweet.

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Sunday, 13 September 2009 03:25 (fourteen years ago) link

i just want him, yknow, and whenever this sort of thing happens, i always get into this sad state of "why the fuck was i born this way" type feeling. it all goes away within 24 hours, but it still is a very lonely, self-pitying bullshit feeling that i wish i could squash. my queer friend j9 told me this morning that whenever i felt that way, she would drop what she was doing and play me 'too many fish in the sea' over the telephone, which made me smile and immediately made me feel good.

my bach penises and their contrapuntal technique (the table is the table), Sunday, 13 September 2009 03:56 (fourteen years ago) link

so anyway, i think i'm now trying for another person, who once dated k4thy 4cker, and is very good friends with d3nnis c00per.

my bach penises and their contrapuntal technique (the table is the table), Sunday, 13 September 2009 03:57 (fourteen years ago) link

So you're trying to get to d3nnis c00per?

boring movies are the most boring (Eric H.), Sunday, 13 September 2009 04:04 (fourteen years ago) link

that I wouldn't recommend, even if he's not really into carving boys up.

"xuxa pitts" is my fave whatever-those-login-thingies-are-called ever! happy b-day 2 u if it was your b-day, miss pitts!

Kevin John Bozelka, Sunday, 13 September 2009 14:02 (fourteen years ago) link

not trying to get to d3nnis, though i can assure you that he is a wonderful person who doesn't cut up young boys/men, and i wouldn't mind being good friends with him.

attacking me for no reason after i gave my honest opinion is definitely dud. if you knew how many people i've known who've moved in with someone, had the relationship go sour, and then suddenly been homeless, you'd understand. obviously, you're not one for that, so why did you ask in the first place?

my bach penises and their contrapuntal technique (the table is the table), Thursday, 17 September 2009 00:03 (fourteen years ago) link

knowing each other for 2 months before moving in is like, lightning fast lesbian cohabitation pace. BUT that doesn't mean it can't work. I'd think the success will depend on how much time you spend together / how well you know each other already, and how adaptable you both are willing to be in the new situation. Knowing practically zero about your relationship, I can't really say what sort of change you're in for. sometimes circumstances can dictate the pace of development for the relationship, and that's natural -- if your living situation with your folks really isn't working for you, you may benefit from the move just by improving your digs -- otoh, needing to move out may or may not be a good motivation here. i really can't say for your situation.

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 17 September 2009 13:20 (fourteen years ago) link

i was living with my brother -- who was slovenly & negliment as a roommate -- before moving in with my guy, so i can empathize.
