i think we should do that with every post, have a dedication somewhere in there, like in the beginning of a book

For Morbius

hello my name is peter francis geraci are you in debt (omar little), Saturday, 4 April 2009 01:42 (fifteen years ago) link

really, his last 8-9 years are pretty fucking embarrassing

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 4 April 2009 01:52 (fifteen years ago) link

last 15 more like it

s1ocki, Saturday, 4 April 2009 01:54 (fifteen years ago) link

A Time to Kill is the worst movie since The Sunshine Boys, but SLJ isn't too bad.

Nurse Detrius (Eric H.), Saturday, 4 April 2009 01:56 (fifteen years ago) link

I wish Soul Men had been anywhere near as funny as The Sunshine Boys (same plot)

Our local film festival runs an annual "surprise movie" event, which I used to attend regularly. I got to see Pulp Fiction without having seen so much as a proper trailer in advance, far less having had the music and dialogue run into the ground. Then, a couple of year later, the surprise was A Time To Kill, and I've never been back since.

Voted for Unbreakable, that's an underrated film (Shyamalan's best?) and a great performance by him.

Tuomas, Saturday, 4 April 2009 12:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I've never seen the 51st State, but I'm tempted to vote for it anyway just because it looks so goddamn stupid.

Zero Transfats Waller (Oilyrags), Saturday, 4 April 2009 12:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Note I did not say I'm tempted to watch it.

Zero Transfats Waller (Oilyrags), Saturday, 4 April 2009 12:42 (fifteen years ago) link

No, I think I'll vote based on the most ridiculous name. Which leaves "Elmo McElroy" in the running, but stiff comp from "Augustus Gibbons" "Mace Windu" "Gator Purify" "Zeus Carver" and "Romulus Ledbetter."

Zero Transfats Waller (Oilyrags), Saturday, 4 April 2009 12:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Crazy names, crazy guy.

Voted for underrated classic The Long Kiss Goodnight.

DavidM, Saturday, 4 April 2009 12:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Tuomas: I love Unbreakable and agree with your assessment. That said, when I saw it in theaters the ENTIRE audience broke out in audible gaffaws with his line ending the film.

Nhex, Saturday, 4 April 2009 13:20 (fifteen years ago) link

honestly, I am watching Jurassic Park on tv rn and i wish i voted for it instead of ATtK. also, i have made a philosophical decision: i do not even want to KNOW anyone who doesnt regard JP as the greatest movie ever, let alone befriend them

imo

Nice to see other people voting for The Caveman's Valentine. Great performance in an underrated flick.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 23 April 2009 23:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I missed this but would have voted for Black Snake Moan, which I like a lot, and where he feels more un-Samuel L. Jackson-like than in most of these Samuel L. Jackson School of Acting SNL sketch roles. Lakeview Terrace is very stupid, but he's good in it in a very SLJ School of Acting kind of way. The Caveman's Valentine was unwatchable for me, despite a great premise and a great first 15 minutes or so. And no respect for The Negotiator? That's holy trash.

Pete Scholtes, Friday, 24 April 2009 00:14 (fifteen years ago) link

I watched Lakeview Terrace, and he is really great in it, in that proper way of completely raising the character above the writing.

LOL, missed the comment about Deep Blue Sea. That speech goes in the clip reel.

I had this dream last night that there was a movie kind of like the Eddie Murphy Nutty Professor only with Samuel L. Jackson playing all the characters instead of Eddie Murphy.

One of the characters was a white tv news anchor who utters the line (in *comic white guy voice*) "Coming up next: a local man who got his guitar stuck in his beard."

this guy's a gangsta? his real name's mittens. (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 21:17 (eleven years ago) link

Would be awesome if this happened more often, with reporters confusing their middling middle-aged female actors or ingenues or British male stage/TV actors or anyone else constantly slotted into specific typecast roles because no one writes for them.

"Wow, I loved you in 'Gravity!"

"I'm Connie Britton, dammit!!!"

Possibly the only celebrity I'd bother quoting on Trump at this point:

Jackson, who has been a frequent critic of President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers, was asked if he worries about "antagonizing fans" with his ideology.

"I know how many motherfuckers hate me. 'I'm never going to see a Sam Jackson movie again.' Fuck I care? If you never went to another movie I did in my life, I'm not going to lose any money. I already cashed that check. Fuck you. Burn up my videotapes. I don't give a fuck," he said.

"I already cashed that check" should be on a T-shirt.
