went to the biergarten - was not feeling it - why beer gardens always got to have a fratty vibe - also strangely laid out and super loud - the service felt a lil inattentive and chaotic - it is new tho - would prob be fine on a slow afternoon to sit by the window - theyve got good beer

nope - mightve just been cause it was late tho

i did hear that it wasn't ready to open yet. hopefully that'll be nice, when it does happen.

There's an Irish bar right around 31st & 2nd that I remember not being bad.

Rolf's on 3rd Ave is a cool old german place with free sandwiches at the bar during happy hour. at least it was, haven't been there for many years, can't comment on the clientele.

I mean it doesn't have to be the *single cheapest* that is probably dependent on a lot of factors but what place would be a bargain at 6 pm today? also would have seats.

Monas or Music Box or that other one...there are multiple places with like $2 Budweisers during happy hour. Or whatever, but dirt cheap. Boxcar is 2-for-1 for HH.

Are there any non-awful bars in midtown east? I just want something that isn't 100% divey/old-man but doesn't have that "Ooh, happy hour, let's get appletinis" vibe

I went there recently. It's Irishy. Also there's liable to be music a lot of nights, since that place is "the home of Irish music in NYC." Which is a draw for me, but not for all.

like what streets in Midtown East? I'm at 44th around Grand Central and most everything around here blows. generic Irish bars with $8 pints. best one is probably O'Neill's at 45th and 3rd, decent happy hour. Perfect Pint around the corner on 45th is ok, multi-level with an open air roof bar, always mobbed though. those are my usual picks if I go out after work around here but like I said the prices are ridic. I'm hoping someone has a good answer for you actually.

there's also a relatively new german beer garden upstairs on 3rd Ave but I haven't tried it yet. Hofbrau Bierhaus.

Hurting, 3rd Ave is chock-a-block with Irish bars?? Molly's is a good one.

I'm in the low 50s on third. Every work happy hour I've ever gone to in this area has been in a miserable place.

I'm just saying, Molly's makes what is arguably the best cheeseburger in NY and it comes with a side of mashed potatoes.

molly's is also like 25 blocks from hurting's office tho.
but yeah it's great. they have good wings too.
