He is a god that haunts my dreams.

Eek.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

And not me? Man.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

i was a big fan, but being on every day is far too much. he's devaluing the Norton brand!

michael, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Tedious.

Matt, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

You may be in the position many of us in the UK were years ago, thrilled by a fresh and funny new comic/personality. Many of us are bored with him by now.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Wasn't that a famous ILE celeb I saw on his show on Wednesday? I was listening to the Ramones, so I didn't catch what was said?

jel --, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Unfortunately my new found stardom has led to assorted stalkers coming out of the woodwork so I have had to go undercover & conceal my identity. And I am not bored by him, he seemed like a very sweet & charming bloke. And funny too.

XXXX, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

i am gutted i missed this, but the philosophical art-house movie "Timecop" was a must-see.

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I like Graham Norton alot, there's a certain Irish Cork person sense of humour about him that he's kept and I think it's fantastic. It's to do with his turn of phrase. Also he's unbelievably articulate in his quick retorts.

Ronan, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

And he knows a decent clevage when he (or perhaps his floor manager) sees it...

Pete, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Pete you are making me paranoid, did I mention this somewhere else or was it noticeable? And whaddya mean 'decent'! Talk about damning with faint praise.

But ta for the presies which have now been unearthed.

Emma, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

a decent cleavage

i guess my present did come in handy then. amazing what two quid down claire's accessories will do.

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yes I'm sure Pete meant to say 'tasty bit of' instead.

I've still not watched the video of this. Sarah and I watched Alang's Dr Who video last night instead - grebt stuff. My Dad was particularly keen on that story for reasons I'm sure I can't imagine.

Tom, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I haven't even dared to try that stuff yet as I am scared of the pain factor when removing it and also don't quite know how to apply it (and not sure if it is possible to do it on my own). I will have you know I was wearing a proper old fashioned bra.

Emma, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sorry Emma.

Graham, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

BEYOND CREEPY.

Emma, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

blimey, graham! do you have a digital capture tv thingy on 24/7?

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

He doesn't use video capture. He takes photos of his enormous EMMA PROJECTION SCREEN.

N., Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

ARE YOU CALLING ME FAT AGAIN?

Emma, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alan: I have a video recorder and advance warning.

Nick: Back, and to the left. Back, and to the left. Back, and to the left.

Denim skirt, hair slides. EMMA IS INDIE.

Graham, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am going to be fat tonight - I have found a LOCAL CURRYHOUSE whos WARES I think I might SAMPLE: http://www.eathotstuff.com/ but perhaps they do not do delivery! Argh!! This is DANGER!!! I cannot believe we have not had a curry leaflet through the door yet.

Graham Norton = extreme overkill btw.

Sarah, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Also other Graham: stop slavering.

Sarah, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

This is possibly the most worrying thread I've ever seen

Matt, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've not been slavering. I've been admiring how fantastically Emma handles herself and would swear it was scripted/rehearsed if Emma wasn't so [insert non creepy word] (this meant as a sincere complement).

Graham, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

HANDLES HERSELF WOARRRRRRRRR

Tom, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham Norton: is shite.

he is a throwback to an Are You Being Served style era where gay people were seen as inherently funny. and the idea that anyone would want to watch some bloke surfing porn on the internet live on television shows the depths to which modern culture has sunk.

DV, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

He was okay on Father Ted, though -- that's probably more to do with the writing on the show than with him.

Nicole, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I disagree.

I think there is an element to Norton which is this "it's ok to be gay on TV as long as you conform to raging queen stereotypes" but but but, he is a genuinely quick witted and urbane host. And he is clearly popular with guests, he has a good way.

I think he has the mannerisms of the Are You Being Served stereotype to a point, but to say that suggests his only gimmick is his sexuality which is a little harsh.

To put it another way, even if you HATE Graham Norton, how many other new chat shows are even REMOTELY interesting?

Johnny Vaughan I'm looking in your direction, sorry Dan. I used to think that

Ronan, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I agree with Ronan. Tom, get your mind out of the gutter.

Emma, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I thought his show was interesting the one time I saw it. It was more the "god who haunts my dreams" phrase that caused me to eek.

(BTW, Tom should stay in the gutter to maximize laffage.)

Dan Perry, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

[we are all in the gutter but some of us are looking up girls' skirts]

N., Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

ew beyond creepy vs BEYOND CREEPY fite!!!

mark s, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Perverts, all of you. Which we all acknowledge and enjoy.

Short blonde hair in general = rowr. Emma wears it very well, she does.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ned joins the cult of the creepy. Noone is safe.

Ronan, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

noone is NOT safe (he = blond also!!)

mark s, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I also find Emma both clever and beutiful, and am v. jelous at her meeting mr norton.

anthony, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Are you saying Emma looks like Peter Noone, Mark?

N., Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham Norton knocks Jade => I hate Graham Norton

Graham, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

one year passes...
He's old-school "showbiz" in about the worst way I can imagine.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 7 November 2003 01:02 (twenty years ago) link

BBC America shows him relentlessly. Aren't there about 10,000 other BBC produced programs that they could run in its place?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 7 November 2003 01:05 (twenty years ago) link

They're worse. Wait, I saw "Daisy Daisy" tonight and it was reall really funny but that might just be cause I've got the hots for Daisy.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 7 November 2003 01:12 (twenty years ago) link

*googling*

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 7 November 2003 02:29 (twenty years ago) link

hot!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 7 November 2003 02:30 (twenty years ago) link

Graham Norton isn't even BBC produced. Gah!

(Don't let Suzy know you like Daisy Donovan Tracer, she has issues.)

Pete (Pete), Friday, 7 November 2003 13:34 (twenty years ago) link

I miss the peter noone jokes, despite myself.

Norton is too frequently on TV now.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 7 November 2003 13:38 (twenty years ago) link

What a cunt.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 7 November 2003 15:13 (twenty years ago) link

two months pass...
I kind of like him now.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 January 2004 23:13 (twenty years ago) link

Alex K OTM.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 30 January 2004 23:22 (twenty years ago) link

BBC America is independent of the BBC, it just uses the name. Hence it's free to buy the rights to Graham Norton, Father Ted, etc.

Nick H (Nick H), Saturday, 31 January 2004 16:34 (twenty years ago) link

Chat-show monologues are usually bad, but the ones on GN's show are amongst the worst things ive ever seen on tv. Leave a bitter taste from the get-go, and...well the rest is shit aswell.

pete s, Saturday, 31 January 2004 16:58 (twenty years ago) link

Bring back the stories from the audience I say. They were classic.

Nick H (Nick H), Saturday, 31 January 2004 17:57 (twenty years ago) link

If you think GN is bad, I have two words: Mike Bullard.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Saturday, 31 January 2004 17:58 (twenty years ago) link

four months pass...
C. and I saw him in person today, Anthony, with studio guests Sandra Bernhard and Marlon Wayans.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 02:26 (nineteen years ago) link

I am still haunted by Norton in a safety video in one of those "before they were famous" programmes. He had terrible hair.

This thread is one of those which shows just how much ILX can change in a couple of years - ppl *only just* becoming bored with Norton, Emma with blonde hair, Emma on ILX at all, Graham ect ect.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 07:35 (nineteen years ago) link

I saw Graham Norton plugging his new show on Comedy Central last night and I immediately thought of this thread.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Graham Norton is so over

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 11:35 (nineteen years ago) link

two months pass...
His new show on Comedy Central is striking in its unfunnyness.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 27 August 2004 04:00 (nineteen years ago) link

alex otm (but satan himself couldn't be funny if he were saddled with josh hartnett)

g--ff (gcannon), Friday, 27 August 2004 04:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Watching him now interview Marilyn Manson and Chris Rock......who are both big guests, it seems....and it's still amateurish and unfunny.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 03:33 (nineteen years ago) link

To me, Graham Norton will always be the annoying priest from Father Ted.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 10 September 2004 14:06 (nineteen years ago) link

hate him. he's nasty and despicable.

Michael B, Friday, 10 September 2004 14:08 (nineteen years ago) link

two years pass...

Latest example of his sidesplitting humour spotted at the BAFTA ceremony last night - after airing a clip from Planet Earth, Norton jested "All of the animals in that clip are now dead."

Or possibly he was mixing up "all of the animals in that clip" with "Graham Norton's career."

I didn't stay with the programme.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 21 May 2007 10:22 (sixteen years ago) link

ten years pass...

so let's say i know a woman

and she sometimes watches the graham norton show

i don't know who he is but should i be worried

bald butte (∞), Thursday, 22 February 2018 16:51 (six years ago) link

(i did watch father ted briefly and i vaguely remember his mug but not his character)

bald butte (∞), Thursday, 22 February 2018 16:52 (six years ago) link

worried about what?

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 22 February 2018 16:55 (six years ago) link

I find his "hyuk hyuk hyuk" laugh annoying, but while there are people around like Jonathan Ross, Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, and Alan Carr, then there far more hateful TV personalities out there. I used to watch his show up until around 2010, but now it's just boring, seemingly the same rotating set of guests (Martin Freeman, Benedict Bandersnatch, Judi Dench, etc.). It's odd how he's gone from slightly edgy chat show host to basically Wogan in 15 years.

2018 has to be better (snoball), Thursday, 22 February 2018 17:01 (six years ago) link

He's a harmless charmer

There's a lot ahead of him for whom those letters are swappable

Planck Blather (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 February 2018 17:02 (six years ago) link

much appreciated

bald butte (∞), Thursday, 22 February 2018 17:05 (six years ago) link

Have to say I find the gag that Marcello posted in 2007 quite funny. Helps that I can visualise him saying it. (Norton that is, not Marcello)

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 22 February 2018 17:15 (six years ago) link

graham norton is harmless at worst imo

NEW CHIMP THREAT (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 22 February 2018 17:47 (six years ago) link

wait that’s what dmac said basically

in that case dmac otm

NEW CHIMP THREAT (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 22 February 2018 17:48 (six years ago) link

he was very good in father ted. his chat show is bobbins. he's not the most annoying or malign tv personality in britain by a longshot.

khat person (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 22 February 2018 18:58 (six years ago) link
