my cat stole a chili pepper out of my general tso's tonight while i wasn't looking! what a crazy nut. hopefully these are not poisonous.

other things she has gone for recently include jerk chicken and buffalo wings.

penelope is a TREAT. i showed this thread to my roomies and they were all "aw, when is penelope gonna visit again?"

my cats are always intertsed in spicy food, but i cockblock them because they puke after eating normal human food.

Jordan, Saturday, 1 March 2008 07:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes they do, especially if there is garlic involved. Cats are nuts for garlic; it's a common flavoring in lots of high quality cat food.

For the past 3 years, my cat would only show interest in fish or dairy. He's now branching out into poultry. Maybe spicy food is next?

miryam, Saturday, 1 March 2008 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I used to live in a flat with 2 other blokes, one of whom had a cat, and the other liked eating vindaloos. Result of this combination was occasional piles of red vomit in the living room. He got better at clearing up after himself after a while (the flatmate, not the cat).

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 1 March 2008 15:18 (sixteen years ago) link

my cat really likes pasta sauce. it must be the garlic thing!
she will eat almost anything.

bell_labs, Saturday, 1 March 2008 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link

My cat hates spicy food, especially if the spiciness is tainting something she normally likes such as yogurt or cheese. She sniffs the food and then looks at me with a pissed of expression on her face if it's spicy, like how dare I do such a thing?

saudade, Saturday, 1 March 2008 18:25 (sixteen years ago) link

My cat only eats cat food, and that only grudgingly. He does not like treats, dairy, poultry, fish or human food of any sort, it seems.

ian, Saturday, 1 March 2008 18:31 (sixteen years ago) link

She also like to mash berries and grapes with her face but not really eat them and then she plays with the grape stem, acting as if she were catnip intoxicated but it's because of the grape stem. If I try to take it away, she attacks me. She will drag it into her hidden cardboard box lair and bring it out to play with until it falls apart.

saudade, Saturday, 1 March 2008 18:39 (sixteen years ago) link

My can likes her cat food, goes crazy for sweet dairy (ice cream, yogurt), and enjoys the occasional alcoholic beverage (she prefers to drink out of my Jameson glass when I'm not looking, but also enjoys beer).

She does not have any interest in fish or any kind of cooked meat.

rockapads, Saturday, 1 March 2008 19:36 (sixteen years ago) link

One of my cats loves the smell of beer but once he gets to the glass/can he doesn't actually want to drink it. He also went nuts for pumpkin when we were carving them for halloween!

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 1 March 2008 19:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Bell Labs OTM. My cat has also shown an interest in pasta sauce.

awww

my kitty, she eats some human stuff. she likes milk of course, and little pieces of cheese, or little pieces of cold-cuts. she likes that. also once she tried popcorn and was like ok with it.

Surmounter, Saturday, 1 March 2008 21:36 (sixteen years ago) link

my cat likes to steal cherries and bat them around the apartment. she doesn't seem to eat them though.

bell_labs, Saturday, 1 March 2008 22:37 (sixteen years ago) link

My friend left an entire italian sub on the coffee table for a few minutes and when we came back it was gone. And the kittens (two of them) were stuffed. They literally ate all of it, including the bread and stuff, and they didn't puke it up.

They don't like spicy stuff at all, though. They loved to tip over any glass with liquid in it until they learned that every time they do that they only get to watch it soak into the carpet. I don't think cats like carbonated drinks. I also read that they can't taste sweet, like they don't have taste buds that sense that flavor. I don't know if its true, though.

those kittens are heroes.

My cats are finicky and prefer wet cat food to anything else except human tuna. They generally won't touch human food, but like to sniff it. Once, my wife gave sushi-quality tuna to the cats and they kinda nibbled some and got tired of it quick.

libcrypt, Saturday, 1 March 2008 23:16 (sixteen years ago) link

oh my god my cat is all over my shit if i get takeout sushi. she recognizes the containers and flips out.

bell_labs, Saturday, 1 March 2008 23:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I wish my old kitty would flip out about eating something because she is losing pounds she doesn't need to lose.

libcrypt, Saturday, 1 March 2008 23:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I would gladly get her expensive tuna every week if she would just gorge herself on it.

libcrypt, Saturday, 1 March 2008 23:23 (sixteen years ago) link

One of our two cats will eat almost anything, including raw peppers, cooked potatoes and carrots, kidney beans, peas, cheese... pretty much anything..

The other cat is more fussy
