Bytes & Coffee at Barry and Broadway is a nice place, and you can buy something like 10 hours for $25 or 5 for $15.

Nick, you could go to our local library (he's at home now), but I wonder if they'd let you put a disc in...

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:09 (sixteen years ago) link

OR MoJoe's on Belmont has a free laptop.

Eazy, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think any library would want me putting software on their computer or using it for 1hr 15minutes. I'm wary of internet cafes but that might work I guess. I think there's one near Chicago and Damen.

n/a, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:10 (sixteen years ago) link

there's also SCREENZ at various locations.

sweet tater, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:11 (sixteen years ago) link

If you exclude internet cafes and librarys, you've pretty much talked yourself out of most examples of "an emergency place with PCs that I can go this afternoon/evening."

Eazy, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link

libraries

Eazy, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Eazy, I think he's trying to narrow it down to YOUR APARTMENT!

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Nick, if it helps, I can walk home.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Christ, I just got sleeeeeeepy. I'm still here for another hour, too.

jaymc, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Do you pray virtually?

I will def need a nap before tonight.

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Don't interrupt, I'm talking to Christ.

jaymc, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:22 (sixteen years ago) link

* very very quietly *
What is everyone up to tomorrow night (other than Dan & sisut [not because I don't like them but because I already know they'll be seeing the national])

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Not sure yet. I really need to pack this weekend, so I imagine I'll be doing that for much of the day, but I don't have plans for later.

jaymc, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Packing for what?

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh yeah! The new place! DUH!

KitCat, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I just want everybody to know that the job offer that I got on Thursday? The one where they didn't tell me what the salary/bennies would be but still expected me to make a decision right there on the phone and I said I need until Monday? Well they still haven't told me what the salary/bennies would be.

W. T. F.

John, maybe Christ knows. Ask him for me.

Jenny, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, tomorrow is Jeff's birthday so we're going to have dinner and then probably just stay in and watch a movie. Low key celebration. Sunday we're going to the last Cubs home game of the season.

Jenny, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Just tell them "if I don't know what the cheddar gonna be, bitch, then how'm I supposed to know if I want the job?"

Eazy, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Just tell them "you wouldn't really want a labor lawyer who didn't find out about the terms before taking a job, right?"

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:38 (sixteen years ago) link

lol that's almost exactly what I told her, I even said cheddar

dan m, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:38 (sixteen years ago) link

That is seriously fucked up, that alone would make me not want to take the job.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually I'm pretty sure I didn't find that stuff out until after I took this job, but I was confident it would be decent and if I'd had the balls to ask they probably would have told me.

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I sent a very nice email that said, basically, I can't make a decision if you don't tell me this information, and have received no reply.

There's no reply at all.
No reply at all.

Jenny, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I get the feeling you're tryin to tell me.
Is there something that I should know?
What excuse are you trying to sell me?
Should I be reading stop or go? I don't know!

Jenny, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Is anybody listening?

Jenny, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Hi dere!

dan m, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:54 (sixteen years ago) link

s'always the same it's just a shame, that's all

Eazy, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Have I ever told you how much I sincerely love Abacab? Well, I totally do.

Jenny, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Duke is okay, too, but after that? Straight into the crapper.

Jenny, Friday, 21 September 2007 22:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I won the self-titled Genesis LP off of the radio when I was about 14.

Eazy, Friday, 21 September 2007 22:05 (sixteen years ago) link

jesse, the abottoir thing was off the cuff inspired by "the arbiter has spoken".

dan, good to be back?

jeff, happy early birthday.

nick, the library should be your best bet. failing that there's an internet cafe on ashland just north of division across from the jewel. there used to be one on north avenue between oakley and bell but i think it's closed.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 23:21 (sixteen years ago) link

We went to a Dogfish Head beer and cheese tasting tonight. Not enough beer, but it was good.

Our fridge is extremely beer rich right now though.

Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 00:59 (sixteen years ago) link

HEY GUESS WHAT. I passed the character and fitness thing. I am of the requisite character to practice law in IL.

Jenny, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Good job. They should have just asked me and I would have told them that you're about as much of an asshole as any practicing attorney.

Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:31 (sixteen years ago) link

rather, NO MORE of an asshole

Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, until you get a few drinks in you.

Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:32 (sixteen years ago) link

REPORT:
JUST THIS IN:
CAFE IBERICO: SERIOUSLY UNDERWHELMING. Food was solidly so-so and the service was right there with the food. I'm having trouble describing the food--it was just really blah. It was spicy and stuff, but it just seemed...unfinished or something. Like it was 2 steps away from being restaurant-quality. The quail paella was pretty OK, but not outstanding.

The ice cream crepe was DE-licious though.

Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Whoa. Amanda Lepore's website lists amongst its benefits:

** Discounts on plastic surgery (we aren't kidding).

Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Jenny, Jeff, Sarah and I went to Cafe Iberico like ... a year ago? Longer? I kind of felt the same way as you, Jesse. It was ok but not amazing, and it's weird eating in that huge loud room.

n/a, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh yeh, I forgot about that. There is this woman I work with at Catch who raves on and on and on about that place. And a guy I work with was badmouthing BaBaReBa and said that for GOOD tapas, go to Iberico. Bleh.

Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Who's in?

Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I remember Cafe Iberico. Whatever I got, I remember it really sort of sucked.

Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Ugh, pumpkin beer. WHY

dan m, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Dogfish head pumpkin beer is the only pumpkin beer I like. It isn't just a beer with some sweet pumpkin syrup squirted in it. It's like brewed with pumpkin guts in it or something.

Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Most pumpkin beers are cloying or too sweet. I like bite with just slightest essence of pumpkin.

Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:12 (sixteen years ago) link

I've never had that one, but I'd be willing to try it because Dogfish Head makes good beer. But yeah, the sweet is what puts me off.

dan m, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I got some of their Golden Era (formerly Golden Shower) pilsner at Binny's the other day. It's fucking fantastic. $13 for a 4 pack though :((((((((((((((((((999

Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey, congrats to Jenny on showing some character.

Is Dogfish the brewery that had the night as Ras Dashen?
