Socks is high: this girl doesn't exactly look amazing in general, but the choice of gray socks is ... clever.

Picturing this man on a fashion blog is like announcing that you hate everything there is to hate about legs.

Are you trying to create ILX's own Vice?

I love that girl's bag up there.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:31 (sixteen years ago) link

This is not do's + don'ts, this is poking around various blogs and discussing (with myself, evidently)!

Recommend justglitterlust.blogspot.com for peek into fashions of Tallinn, Estonia.

P.S. Anyone remember my timeline of the 00s where I predicted "skank saturation" and "skank backlash?" Can we consider this "skank backlash?"

There were a ton of mannequins at Macy's this past weekend donning the gray knee high sock look.

Someone needs to photoshop Maroon Cardigan so he's stepping off a plane onto a pre-statehood Hawaiian island.

There are at least three other guys in Stockholm who look basically like that -- one looked even better, due to shoe/shirt coordination -- but I skipped along.

that woman is beautiful but clearly insane.

horseshoe, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:43 (sixteen years ago) link

her cheekbones are delicious.

her yellow bow, however, is not.

molly mummenschanz, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I love the yellow bow, but not with psychedelic purple leggings so much.

horseshoe, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha I might think she were terrific fun if we met! But to me, that isn't fashion. She's a mess.

Laurel, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:45 (sixteen years ago) link

bow over that hole in the dress doesn't do much for me. what is even going on there?

molly mummenschanz, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:45 (sixteen years ago) link

i've seen gray socks chick with librarian glasses at least three times on different fashion blogs - some kind of uncanny talent of casually running into street photographers?

molly mummenschanz, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:47 (sixteen years ago) link

The redhead w/ grey socks is so beautiful up above that she's physically hurting me...but the babyish stoop and the teal satin heels worn like Mama's dress up are making me want to slap her. You're going to force me to post snappy jpgs of my own in self-defense, aren't you.

xp ahahahahahahahha

I covet her shoes (beautiful redhead w/ gray socks + adolescent posture)

horseshoe, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Good lord. I'm trying to find something positive to say about the purple faux bag lady but I am failing miserably. She's pretty. But damn, those clothes. You can't even say she raided her gran's closet, because, well, I doubt even in gran's time those clothes were fashionable. Her boobs look larger than they are because of the mix(up) and those leggings make my migraine attack explode in a million headaches.

stevienixed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey I know! She's a hooker and you can only practice safe sex by putting your penis through the hole!

stevienixed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:50 (sixteen years ago) link

contraceptive yellow bow? I'd buy that.

Roz, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:51 (sixteen years ago) link

The thing about the purple dress girl is that I think if you weren't nice to her, she'd slap you and sweep all the drinks off your table with one arm. That's what her look is saying to me.

Laurel, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

HA! Me too.

KitCat, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

This would be so great, but the slim/shrunken jacket pulls at his shoulders in a way that winds up looking Frankensteinish -- apparently this is the one man in the world who is too tall for fashion?

Laurel, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link

This looks great in a fashion blog photo, but if you were actually watching this guy walk toward you, you would absolutely think "WTF is he trying to do with those pants?"

http://bp1.blogger.com/_qjpwnPW4c1o/Rs2Dhf4lK7I/AAAAAAAAB6s/VM4uO6t2-lk/s400/MadPlaid.jpg

nabisco, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, no. That guy is a perfect example of why people think clothes look good when PEOPLE look good. He's hot, okay? And again, red socks win. But overall...no.

Laurel, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:57 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't know why i hate the kneesocks and heels thing so much. to do the innocent/sexy knee socks thing you gotta do little girl shoes. the combo does not compute. it screams slutty halloween costume.

bell_labs, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I think I hate the kneesocks and heels thing because I love heels. I just imagine the socks bunching around the ankle and uglying everything up.

horseshoe, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:58 (sixteen years ago) link

um, just a bit g-a-y. i like it, though! probably looks great on you.

Abbott, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Re. celebrities in badly chosen designer clothes, am reminded of what Tom Ford reportedly said when he discovered Victoria Beckham was wearing all this Gucci: 'AAAAGH! How do we get it OFF her?"

Tom Ford apparently forgot those were the only clothes she had on the Spice Bus! "Should I wear the little Gucci dress, the little Gucci dress, or the little Gucci dress?" A debate for the ages.

Abbott, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 17:22 (fifteen years ago) link

phil, i love the jacket. if anyone can carry it off, you can.

Hey guys remember the whole long argument we had upthread about the girl from the twee fashion blog, with the barrette and the cardigan and whatnot? I was looking at Facebook the other day and there she was, staring out from a friend's list of friends. Turns out that photo was a promo for her band, the Budgies. They're Swedish and pretty obviously twee.

Now for those of us who have been afraid to wear leggings, fear no more. One of the biggest trends that have hit the runways and stores hard this season… JEGGINGS! Yes ladies, jean leggings. We must be extra careful with these as well. Jeggings have the same structure as leggings- very little. Though they are made to look more like jeans, it is probably a good idea we still keep our behind covered. Jeggings will provide us all a chance to stay in fashion while still remaining comfortable, but in order for us to be happy we must keep in mind the fashion aspect, or else they will not be around for long.

Jeans are an item that will forever stay in style. Denim can be dressed up or dressed down and paired with almost any accessory. Jeans vary with each individual, that is what makes them so unique. Because of the several structures of jeans, there is a pair for every body type. The classic look of denim will never fade.

Jeggings are comfortable and fashionable at the moment. Even names who are known for their quality denim have adapted this latest trend in their lines! They can fool other people into thinking they are actually jeans. Jeggings are a fabulous accessory to any ensemble as long as they are worn correctly. Jeggings are a hot trend for both spring and fall, so have fun, be comfortable, but wear them well!
