This thread reminds me of 'The Windmills Of Your Mind' written by Michel Legrand and sung by Noel Harrison:

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a clock whose hands are spinning
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Hanging silently in space
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a windmill ever turning
Running rings around the moon
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Yes - I think it's gone now.

This thread has clearly gone down the dumper. If anyone thinks that they're approaching a world record of embedding, there's a story in John Barth's Lost In The Funhouse with seven levels of narration! That's the most I've come across, though I suspect The 1001 Nights gets close.

no, in this thread we discover that Martin triggered the reintroduction of 'embedding' into popular vernacular! It's all historically valuable and stuff!

for real. ffs grow a pair ilx: the ban LJ 'phenomenon' is small beer: FAR more shit was stirred by the thread about it than any of the other stuff. most of the people asking for a ban got on fine with louis in other contexts -- i did, dom did -- it's just the internet for god's sake.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 19:58 (eighteen years ago) link

yes, enrique, we did, and i thought the thread was actually in retrospect quite embarrassing for most concerned. My only concern was (and still is) to dispel any of the accusations about my apparent race-hatred, all the rest of the flak is on the whole pretty funny if (and this, alongside my drunkenness, is what sparked that Beck thread rant) often unwarranted and harsh for harshness' sake.

dom gets away with his cuntery for the plain and simple reason that he is fuckin' hilarious. on an internet messageboard, i can pay no man a higher compliment. 'GY!BE started off as a sitcom' will never fade...
