Bakin'.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:07 (sixteen years ago) link

in the absence of smoked streaky, i vote for Francis Bacon (16th C philosopher and scientist) for writing Shakespeare's plays.

Frogman Henry, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:08 (sixteen years ago) link

scientist, no contest. He invented the scientific method!

But Roger was in the Name of the Rose! And Kevin... is within 6 degrees of everyone in the world! And Francis (painter) err... drunk a lot and painted screaming popes.

I can't decide.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:11 (sixteen years ago) link

I was just about to post some of those.

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I do love me some screaming popes.

Which was the one who died of pneumonia while attempting to invent frozen food? I think that was Francis I.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Yep, death from stuffing a chicken with snow. Good way to go.

ledge, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:19 (sixteen years ago) link

These are the worst bacons. So disappointed.

The Des Moines Art Center has that screaming pope painting! I walked by that thing a couple weeks ago, it's in a room that has a few other creepy paintings.

It was in the name of science, dontcha see? Without him, there would be no Stouffer's Chicken Kiev.

smoked bacon
back bacon

bell_labs, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:55 (sixteen years ago) link

You people. I say Boar's Head because it's the best bacon carried at "normal" Bklyn supermarkets, but I would RELISH some applewood-smoked stuff or other interesting variant.

Laurel, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:06 (sixteen years ago) link

don't put relish on bacon, you madwoman!

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Watch out your going to get yelled at for talking about varieties of bacon not-sanctioned by this thread.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:11 (sixteen years ago) link

I reject the idea that thread-starters control the discourse. I vote for Wright's Thick Cut, but John Morrell and Kroger's store brand is good too. And I like it with a large streak of lean, and a little undercooked so it's not crunchy.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I was joking. I have been already yelled at today for taking your stance Rock (which I share.)

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I take my bacon blackened, please -- crisp so it snaps when you bend it.

Laurel, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:18 (sixteen years ago) link

bacon is the best meat for wrapping around other meat to create a deadly meat bomb

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:19 (sixteen years ago) link

bacon wrapped around a hamburger patty

John Justen, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Pigs in blankets! (i never eat bacon, but I still eat pigs in blankets because they are teh food of nummy Christmas food)

Out of the rest of them, Kevin for Footloose, easily.

ailsa, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:25 (sixteen years ago) link

8 servings of 2 shrimp each?! Crazy talk, that wouldn't keep a bird alive.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:26 (sixteen years ago) link

But they're filled with ground pork, ground venison and wrapped in bacon!

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Four or five of those + rice pilaf + a salad would make me happy.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:00 (sixteen years ago) link

scallops in bacon mmmmmm

kv_nol, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:04 (sixteen years ago) link

today i had my first starbucks breakfast sandwich -- the pepper bacon egg cheese one. they must have dumped millions into R&D on it, because it is just AWESOME.

get bent, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh yeah the Black Forest ham and cheddar and egg one is MUY BUENO too!

Laurel, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:29 (sixteen years ago) link

...beeeecause it takes millions spent on research to determine that chewy savory protein + creamy savory protein + inoffensive savory protein + buttered starch = motherfucking delicious.

Laurel, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:31 (sixteen years ago) link

like i said before, there's a particular matrix of grease + starch + salt + crunch to get breakfast sandwiches RIGHT.

get bent, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link

there's a wrong way to do any of those things

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link

scientist, no contest. He invented the scientific method!

I suspect Kenan was talking about Francis I here, but similar things can be said for Roger more than three centuries before. So Rog it is for me.

Grrr, I didn't click on this link cause I figured:"How many bacons can you have?" *bashes head* I would have picked Francis Bacon (20th C).

nathalie, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 08:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Surprise upset, that 20th C painter won!

Poor Roger, I think I was 2 of those 4 votes.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 09:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Heh then the others were spacecadet and me, apparently.

four years pass...

Right you lot: Name me a savoury dish that cannot be improved by the addition of bacon.

Glo-Vember (dog latin), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:45 (twelve years ago) link

Three out of four of these Bacons are corpses. I would not lay a tooth to any of them.

Aimless, Thursday, 3 November 2011 17:17 (twelve years ago) link

five years pass...

I just added some streaky bacon to a roasted butternut squash/red pepper/celery/leek soup and it was incredible. Bacon (not the overrated goth fool, Francis) really does improve anything.

ogmor, Monday, 25 September 2017 10:49 (six years ago) link

My favourite Bacon.. (screen goes swirly..)

A few months ago, Amber walked in during the picture round, and I answered "Bacon".

BACON? she laughed, as if I'd just said "Sausages" to be funny.

Eventually, Paxo says, "Well, I'll tell you it was Bacon!" at which point Amber was helpless.

Eventually, I explained about Francis Bacon, etc.
